Thanks Amber! You're great for encouragement, the tartan Lucy Choi and the dress. I like to see how far I can push things and still feel comfortable, well sometimes!

mignonette · 25/08/2013 20:36

Amber That is so it. Inflate the prices while quality stays the same. Let Ebay ramp up the desirability too. You reminded me of Lang too. I have a lot of his pants and some of them are going strong after nearly 18 years. The cut is King for him. It is the cut which separates the talented from the players. Stella and McQueen did their time at Saville Row. Philo, McGibbon also paid their dues.

Henry Holland kind of reminds me of Luella Bartley-she openly admitted going into fashion as a lark then found herself riding some kind of zeitgeist and had to develop a business. Holland is a dilettante joke and an insult to not prepare in from of talented graduates desperate for a break/advice.

LinusDKD · 25/08/2013 20:37

P.Pilotto a bit too out there for you shop? Wink (I have this idea in my mind that you are a kind of short-haired Jennifer Connelly so that's why I thought of that kind of designer)

For me too really but the dress I saw in real life was a lot more understated than you see in the pictures. They don't really convey how absolutely stunning the print is IRL.

I was actually inspired to ask this question by a remark remus made a couple of weeks ago about not buying American Apparel because of the way they portrey women in their ads.

MarshaBrady · 25/08/2013 20:38

yes good point on American Apparel.

Shop just looked at pin, love the ones on there already!

mignonette · 25/08/2013 20:39

Amber your two fantasy bags just dropped .....Love them both. Great taste and very tempted by the Givenchy as they haven't been on my bag radar depsite the exquisite white clothing collection that blew me away.

I have a Balenciaga Lariat. Love it very much.

mignonette · 25/08/2013 20:41

Linus Was appalled at the American Apparel lingerie shots. OMG.

Read up on the owner. Mouth opening in shock.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:42

Linus I think PP is a bit too out there for me. I'm quite dull really! PP would be what I should have worn pre DS when I had a life! :)
I am still in love with Dagmar Marsha you're right. And they have the original jumper I lusted after in a plum colourway this season which I may be tempted by. Philip Lim looks fab too so I need to investigate more, and I've pinned a Duffy dress which look right up my street. Thanks
If anyone sees any bargainous Acne Pistols around (other than the white ones on the Anna site) in a size 40 please PM me. I can't get them out of my head now!

I won't buy from American Apparel after reading an interview with the owner a few months back. He is an arse.

Evening. I'm afraid I don't know designers enough to say who I would/n't buy. Except to agree with VB. Can't bear her (not that I know herGrin). Also agree with the high st collaborations. I'm sure it's just the designer lending their name to something rather than having had anything to do with it. I love Kate moss but feel she's sold out by doing so many things especially the car phone warehouse stuff.

I had a fabulous shopping trip and bought a few things. Dh is rather bemused as I had said I would wait until october before buying anything else (as if that was ever going to happen Grin).

Anyway grey flats, black trousers-I had these last year but they got pulled by a friends cat. They will get chopped so that they are 7/8th length. Tee which is a much nicer shade of grey irl, navy modern blazer from gap (not on web) and libertys red/cobalt scarf from gap which may go back as not sure it's really me.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:44

I wish I did look like Jennifer C Linus. You've seen the pic on my profile right?

LinusDKD · 25/08/2013 20:49

I know mig! I read an article about him a couple of years ago and he seems to be a grade A sleazebag.

LOVE that Dagmar jumper shop! I am really tempted to pin it as well but I seem only to be able to wear jumpers with a low neckline and that looks a bit too high for me.

I wore the blue I&I cashmere jumper (outnet clearance bargain) for the first time today and even though the colour is stunning I had to wear a scarf to break up the jumper because it made me look like a bright blue brick.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:50

QueenC your tee link links to the trousers..... (Which look great BTW)

LinusDKD · 25/08/2013 20:52

Just throw on a black wig and you could be sisters shop!

Thinking of her has made me think of Paul Bettany......

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:54

Which Dagmar Linus? The purple? Don't want to link on here as I lost out last time

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:56

Linus was it you who linked to a Scandi shop in London a while back? Remind me of the name of it?

OP posts:
LinusDKD · 25/08/2013 21:01

Yep, it was me: www.alvalondon.com/

And yes, that's the jumper. Such a lovely colour for winter.

BrandyAlexander · 25/08/2013 21:01

Evening! I don't think I have any designer that is on my never buy from, although not a massive fun of Stella.

I am not a purist about designers and so will go against the trend here and say that there are a couple of VB dresses that I have considered in the past because I really liked them. They are damn expensive though so haven't been persuaded to part with the cash so far.

QueenCadbury · 25/08/2013 21:04

Oops, sorry, had to put ds to bed so was rushing!

tee which as I said is a lovely grey irl.

The black trousers I also bought in navy which being straight legged rather than skinny are a very flattering fit for me. I also bought the Fossil green belt which for some reason won't open on the website. I need to have a play with it as I'm not used to green.

I also may have found the dress. Not linking yet though as need to order online as there were some fit issues (let's just say I must definitely be a pear) over my hips and I want to order 2 just to see if one comes up slightly bigger! Will link when I have.

I tried on loads of other things. Gap curvy jeans were lush as they are mid/high rise until I looked at my back view. Because of where the pockets are they make my arse look huge. Such a shame as from the front they were very flattering.

I've decided that I'm definitely not a person to colour block! Trying on 2 bright colours together definitely looks too try hard on me so I'm going to focus on coloured accessories.

M&s didn't seem to have anything inspiring despite all the press about it. I may join the bra threads to have a whine as there were no 30f at all, in fact nothing under a 32 back at all.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 21:06

Lovely tee QueenC. I can do colour blocking in darker colours, but not brighter ones.

OP posts:
libertychick · 25/08/2013 21:07

QueenC I have worn that scarf 4 times this week!!

I find the designer chat really interesting - it's something I have only paid attention to very recently. I would never buy anything very bling or with obvious logos and my inner nag would never let me spend too much either! I find myself drawn to French high street brands like Gerard Darel, Agnes B and Sandro and also American designers like DVF and Michael Kors. I like the Scandi look, like Acne, but wouldn't be able to resist the urge to dress in all up with a pretty scarf or necklace which probably isn't in keeping with the look. Smile

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 21:10

And you look great in it Liberty

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 21:13

In beauty news, I used this mask today. And for the first time EVER DH said my skin looked great! He didn't even say that when I had a course of micro dermabrasion so it must be good!

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 21:15

Thanks for the compliment Linus I'll take it even if you're joking! And for the link to Alva.

OP posts:
libertychick · 25/08/2013 21:15

Ah thanks shop - I do love those colours.

QueenCadbury · 25/08/2013 21:20

libery I do love it and spotted it ages ago but I'm just not really a scarf person. I will have a play with it before I decide because I want it to love me back but not sure it does!
