My dream designers are Prabal Gurung, Preen, Thakoon and Proenza Schouler oh and Derek Lam. Love Derek Lam. The closer to the designer you get the better. So yes agree again with Mig about Ralph Lauren etc

I also love Isabel Marant because she's successful and female and her clothes are fresh and easy.

Agree on plastic at Stella M - usually think no to the shoes as not leather.

Not that keen on Jimmy Choo or Manolo Blahnik, but haven't looked at their stuff enough to know all of it.

And Balmain prices are crazy.

mignonette · 25/08/2013 20:08

Stella prices are mad and yes agree, all that £££ for plastic. I forgot to drool over Dries Van Noten and Margiela.

Carven is doing a good job of filling a gap for quality clothes at decent prices.

LinusDKD · 25/08/2013 20:13

Interesting answers.

I wouldn't buy Versace nor Cavalli either as mig is right they are often too trashy for my taste.

amber glad you managed to 'scratch the itch' without breaking your ban.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:13

Evening all. I wouldn't buy Stella for the same reasons above, and no to Cavalli as A. It's just not me and B. an old, no longer friend, used to adore it and as a result I can't bear to look at it. For women with big hair and lots of bling - just the total opposite of me.
My knees ache today Marsha we should have got a taxi Grin

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:14

Can't tell you my dream designers - I have no clue. I'd be curious to ask people who have met me who they think I should look at?

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 25/08/2013 20:16

Oh and no to Henry Holland, but I think he just does a different thing with the same piece of tartan every year!

And no to Julien MacDonald, for some reason I just think Debenhams.

Really Shop, ha next time Grin

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:16

Interesting article in ST Style about contacting exes / FB etc. made me think of Carrie. It was Carrie wasn't it?

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 25/08/2013 20:17

Yes me too! And Carven was in there too.

Ok am going to look at NaP list and think of designers for you Shop.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:17

Oh, and any designer who's been on B&I Next Top Model is a no for me.

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:19

Please Marsha am genuinely interested as DH and I had an interesting discussion about ££££ and whether he'd be happy with me buying more designer......

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:20

Oh and Mig a bit in Stlyle about the new &Other Stories lingerie designs.......

OP posts:
LinusDKD · 25/08/2013 20:21

Oh Julien McDonald, too orange and too bitchy.

How about Peter Pilotto for shop?

I saw a lovely dress by him a couple of weeks ago and I had to stop myself from trying it on.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:23

YES Linus he was who I was thinking of! Too plastic too!

OP posts:
mignonette · 25/08/2013 20:24

Marsha Yes yuck yuck yuck to Julien McDonald and his trashy Debenhams stuff. I went to the premiere of a piece called 'Dazzle' by the Richard Alston Dance Company at Sadlers Wells some years ago and McDonald had designed the costumes. He came onto the stage like a demonic little god after the performance.....I did not give him an ovation. The dancers, yes.

Jonathan Saunders and Preen do Designers at Debenhams and their stuff isn't so bad. Henry Holland is so the Emperors New Clothes and he has got those daft Geldof girls in his stuff. They'll go anywhere and do anything for a freebie.

AmberNectarine · 25/08/2013 20:24

Dream designers for me: Alexander Wang, Balenciaga (LOVED Ghesquiere, mig, but do have a soft spot for Wang), Rick Owens, Zuhair Murad, Givenchy, Carven, Jimmy Choo, Saint Laurent (accessories), Helmut Lang.

MarshaBrady · 25/08/2013 20:25

Pared down cool of Acne.

Phillip Lim

Dagmar influenced by that petrol top.

Duffy for softer cashmere stuff.

Rag&Bone

Alexander Wang and T by Wang.

Ok enough for now. Looking at that, I think I've gone for the pared down NYC / Scandinavian designers (I can't remember where they are all from, but I am shorthand thinking that's where they are). Not frilly, not over the top, good for casual but very good quality. Also not so much the French designers.

MarshaBrady · 25/08/2013 20:26

That list was for Shop!

Yes I am ok with Preen and Jonathan Saunders doing it too Mig, but they have built up great labels first. So they can get away with it.

MarshaBrady · 25/08/2013 20:27

Love Balenciaga too.

AmberNectarine · 25/08/2013 20:28

Oh, Henry Holland presented the Gala Show at Graduate Fashion Week and he was so underprepared. Made me think he was incredibly unprofessional. Had spent a lot more time doing his hair than learning his lines.

I'm not against high st/designer collaborations, but they've never really lit me up. I have one item, a pair of silver sandals from Marni x H&M, but I don't buy all this 'get designer at high st prices', more 'get high street at significantly inflated prices'.

shopafrolic · 25/08/2013 20:28

Thanks Marsha off to research.

Shop I have just pinned some Aloe lingerie and some gorgeous everyday dresses-a black and a red.

Also really like the Jaeger Jennifer tote here....

LinusDKD · 25/08/2013 20:31

I know this is a very safe (and bourgeois) choice but I love DvF.

Yes, she does the same old wrap dresses in the same old patterns but she does know how to dress women.

I am short and ever so slightly bigger than my twin Natalia Vodianova but I can always find sometjing that I look good in at DvF.

MrsRadicchio · 25/08/2013 20:31

I've been reading the Style section too. A bit Hmm about the school gate style article but assume it is tongue in cheek!

Liberty you have an eagle eye, those boots are not in my original project 333 wardrobe, but I've added a few shoes I've bought recently as I have got bored! Only one week to go and no groundbreaking insights Wink

I actually really like that dress Marsha, though I do agree it is not really 'your style' as I see it. I see the dress more as a summer dress, with tan leather sandals and bare legs. Interested to see the pin where it looks awful, can you link?

The coat / knit looks a totally different shape to the one in Matches - the one we saw looked more slouchy, which I preferred. The one you linked looks like the waist is nipped in.

Umlauf what about this skirt? I love leopard print (this is something I won't be able to give up even if it is not my season) and like the ruching. Some people on this thread have the wang skirt which is ruched, think it is quite short though?

Linus I'm not really sure re designers. I agree about some of the tacky, blingy ones. Though sometimes I do like bling / kitsch. I also don't like Karl Lagerfeld's comments about women's bodies, so maybe I will boycott him! I am also not particularly inspired by American preppy styles.

AmberNectarine · 25/08/2013 20:34

I can see you rocking that dress Marsha, there is a touch of boho about you, and with the right toughening I think it could really work.

MarshaBrady · 25/08/2013 20:34

MrsR do you think it's a different coat? I am losing it a bit! I can't remember what the Liberty one was like exactly that I tried, nor if the Matches is the same. I might have to retrace my steps!

I'll see if I can find the image, I did a little yelp and and clicked off quickly Grin
