Great shopping Dry, esp loving the shoes (both). I too favour the colours you've listed, but include yellow (now) as it's been a revelation to me this summer - I have a few yellow things - J Crew sweater, Equipment shirt, Other Stories vest and have been surprised by how much I've loved them. Just been reading a book "What every woman should know about style" and was interested to read (quote): "never listen to a colour therapist. Particularly if they work under the banner of 'Colour Me Beautiful'. Being told your complexion is Spring therefore you should wear pastels is yet another relic of the 80's that we can do without". I had my colours done once, and had exactly that said to me. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than wear pastels, so have always felt a little sceptical. I think shades are more important than colours and most of us can look in a mirror and decide what suits us.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 29/08/2013 00:28

Mmmmm. Just watching Agatha Christie's 'A Caribbean Mystery' and am now hankering after a serious pair of cat's eye sunglasses for my winter sun. I seem to remember some House of Harlow beauties...

OneLittleLady · 29/08/2013 00:32

I'm after a new pair of glasses and was wondering what you ladies thought of these ? Do you think they would suit my face shape? Pic on profile if anyone hasn't seen it already.

Drywhiteplease · 29/08/2013 08:52

One look like a style that would suit most. I love tortoiseshell.
Grumpy.....whose that book by? Sounds interesting. I think colour analysis can be a great help to women who are stuck in a rut, lack confidence in their clothing or not sure how to creat a capsule wardrobe. It can be a revelation, can also be restrictive I guess.

I am waiting for the plumber to
arrive to tell him that he has to undo all the work he did yesterday Sad thanks DH he's right though but dreading doing it.

QueenCadbury · 29/08/2013 09:14

For me the colours thing was a revelation. Being blonde and pale I tended to stick to muted colours and was scared of bright colour but now I can see that I look so much better and it's given me so much more confidence. The prescriptiveness works for my matchy matchy tendencies too. I can see how it wouldn't work for everyone.

amber you would have hated my uniform-grey, red and black!

mignonette · 29/08/2013 09:14

One You really need to play around in an opticians to find glasses that suit. I wore John Lennon round glasses until I was 17 and got CL's and they really suited me. I had to order some glasses last month and gravitated towards my beloved glasses of old. They now look hideous!

Lovely Autumnal morning, misty early yesterday and garden still wreathed in haze. Beautiful. Found three little Goldfinches clutching the Nigella feeder at 6 a.m which makes me very proud. we have attracted so many birds into the garden including some very tame blackbirds and thrushes. The female thrush has been seen bringing snails into our kitchen to smash against the slate floor! The Blackbird sits on the high gate by the back door and shouts at me until I bring out his mealworm breakfast.

They help my empty nest transition.

Today I am wearing my Creatures of the wind metallic skirt (on Pin board) in pinks/creams with a cream/white spotted swiss shirt w/ cap sleeves and quite boyish in style. Then I have a pair of Paul Smith heels in a brogue pattern in three different shades of chestnut, mid brown and burgundy. Have meetings so smarter. I will post photo of the shoes on Anni's board. They were a brand new bargain from Ebay- £38 for new Paul Smith mainline shoes! Unworn.

shopafrolic · 29/08/2013 09:15

Morning all! The sun is shining.
One I think the only way with glasses is to try them. I'm hoping to get my next pair from here
Dry good luck

Oh no, I am wondering if it is a good idea to get my colours done!! I am a bit of a geek and am hoping I can use it as a system for organising my wardrobe. I doubt I will follow it fully though.

However, I am not good at telling what suits me colourwise. I don't have an eye for it.

Linus to answer your question, I like and wear most colours. Though I thought I had a relatively bright wardrobe but when pinning it I realise it is really muted. I love yellow and orange too. Also deep colours like cobalt, purple, but I do like pastelly colours too.

The only ones I can see I should avoid are beiges, and salmon pink - though I am sure that there are a lot more!

Umlauf funny you should link that shirt, I have been looking at this similar one from HnM. Thanks for all the suggestions for wear Turq (? Hope I have that right).

This pinboard has some useful ideas for chambray shirts.

Anni great idea for the board. I am going to add a few pics of my recent shoe purchases, just for fun Grin but I think I will be using it to get your advice about things in future. I like the hudsons too, and the floor (!)

Grumpy love the cats eye shape.

Sleep I missed your kitchen...need to scroll back through the thread. Sounds fab though.

MrsRadicchio · 29/08/2013 09:27

McNally that wear and where blog you linked features my style cruch, I love her shoes!

here

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2013 09:30

MrsR you look great in print, it will be interesting to see what they say about your colours.

What a gorgeous day. Espresso with ds in the sunshine. Lovely!

This is my favourite weather, and spring.

shopafrolic · 29/08/2013 09:36

I found getting my colours done really useful in terms of understanding what colours suit me best. The prescriptive bit of wearing x different colours together etc is not something I could adhere to, I like to break the rules a little - hence the black, and the neon. It has helped hugely with jewellery, and just making me think about my style more. I'd definitely recommend it.
MrsR love your pic you posted to Anni 's board

Shop you've found my new 'going out' top Grin

Annianni · 29/08/2013 10:03

I've got that top Shop...

MrsR you look fab, loving the selfies.
Gorgeous ds too.

Great news on the compliments Shop.

I'd quite like to have my colours done, I suspect dh would think it was bonkers though :o

shopafrolic · 29/08/2013 10:10

What did you do about the jeans Anni?

OP posts:
McNally · 29/08/2013 10:42

My DH sounds like yours Anni. I'm tempted by the colours thing too, mostly just out of curiosity, and to see if my mother has been right all these years in telling me not to wear black!

QueenCadbury · 29/08/2013 10:52

I don't think any dh gets it anni.

mrsR I'd say it's worth it as it's great to sit there and really focus on what colours do for you. It's also been great for me in terms of adding in coloured accessories to lift an outfit and also the lipstick thing has been a revelation. I look so much more alive with bright lips rather than natural coloured ones.

Annianni · 29/08/2013 11:20

I never wear lipstick QC, that's what scares me!
That they'll put some on me!!!
I only wear gloss or pink vaseline.

I kept the Hudson's Shop.
It was a unanimous decision.
I did like the look of the J Brand's but to be honest, I could have fit a sizeable cock and balls down the front, they were that loose :o

I have yet to find a pair of J Brand that fits me properly.
Compared to Hudson and Goldsign, where there's only been one style of each brand that didn't suit me.
And I've tried loads on since meeting you lot on here

I am loving the dressing room by the way, I didn't realise that they arrange to collect your return for free, if you've ordered 2 pairs of jeans and kept one pair.

I was expecting to pay a tenner for special delivery at the PO.

I'm having a decorating nightmare, I ordered off white floorboard paint and they've sent me blue garage floor paint instead!?
I'm not amused, I needed it for Sunday.

McNally · 29/08/2013 11:29

Any thoughts on this Alice by Temperley dress for a winter wedding? Too froufy?

This Roland Mouret for QueenC?

Annianni · 29/08/2013 11:49

I like both dresses McNally.
Did I invite you to the pin board?
I know I've probably missed a few people (sorry)

New paint should be here tomorrow, thank god.
And they've told me to keep the 5 litres of garage floor paint.
I think it can go on ebay :o

BrandyAlexander · 29/08/2013 11:49

I love that temperley dress McNally

McNally · 29/08/2013 12:03

Thanks Anni and novice.

Would love an invite to the Pin board Anni. Hope there's a thriving ebay market in blue garage floor paint Hmm.

MarshaBrady · 29/08/2013 12:34

McNally it's gorgeous.

shopafrolic · 29/08/2013 13:17

Good call on the jeans Anni and that is good service from the DR. Glad the paint got sorted too. Am in awe of your decorating skills. DH and I are rubbish so have to get a man in Blush

Oh me too Shop. Dh is so enthusiastic that I have to say no diy. I know, but he's just not good at it. But really keen.

Anni good news on the Hudsons. They looked great.

MrsR love your pics, you look great. Those white boots are still fabulous.
