I could see QueenC doing a bit of Jil Sander

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 09:45

Yes scrap RM forgot about Voderman ruining that one. Jil Sander is perfect. I couldn't think of a clean lines designer.

Sleepwhenidie · 26/08/2013 09:46

Now you have to do all of us Marsha. I'd love to know mine. I really like the Marant dress by the way, could definitely imagine you looking great in it. Maybe not with the tartan heels however, I'm not going that far off piste Grin.

With the chat about designers people would never buy, I have been pondering the question in Migs quiz that I found hardest and never answered, the one about one designer only. The clothes that make me swoon are the likes of Valentino, Lanvin and Alberta Ferretti, however even if I could afford them, they wouldn't exactly fit into my life! If I had Novice's job I think I would dress mainly in Roland Mouret, Armani and DVF. For my actual life, Balmain would be fab, but obviously £££!

In terms of not buying, I wouldn't rule out any particular designer per we but I know what doesn't suit me, for example Marni (too directional) and Cavalli ( too sexy) and Jil Sander (too severe/androgynous).

Now that I have wifi again I am going to start pinning my A/W wishlist Smile

mignonette · 26/08/2013 09:47

Ahh Amber*. Uniqlo kids stuff makes me sad I do not have a little child around anymore. How sweet. I so loved those years of dressing up the children and it goes so fast. Lovely to go shopping w/ adult children though and my Daughters face when I say "Let me get that for you". She works so hard, has always worked so hard. I'm going to buy her some plaid pants this week as she has been ill (cluster headaches) yet has soldiered into work at 3 a.m every day to bake bread and make patisserie. She'll have her own store one day.

That coat sounds luxurious too. I once had a cream cashmere belted coat given to me by my Mother. It sits in the spare room shrouded in a dry cleaner bag as too scared to wear it in case I 'kill it'. I twirl round the house in it sometimes. It needs to be worn with insoucience. I am not an insoucient person. Smile....

Sleepwhenidie · 26/08/2013 09:50

I have a question, following on from the designer ones...if you could only shop in two high street chains, one high end, one lower, what would they be? Mine would be Zadig and Zara.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 09:52

Down filled gilets are fab. My kids love them too. I have this. Not the most stylish but great for that in between weather whilst at the park with dc and great for driving as no bulky sleeves.

I mentioned yesterday that I tried on a dress. My size was rather snug around the hips (think Carole vorderman) but the next size up was huge. I've just ordered 2 in my size in the hope that one of them may have a spare cm of fabric! It's this one. Gorgeous colour, adore the neckline as it really shows off my shoulders and arms (good bits of me). The black belt is hideous so would swap that for something else. I've been umming and aaahing about ordering it as if it fits what if I see something better I.e a jumpsuit between now and November? But equally I couldn't risk it selling out as I love it. I guess I don't have a dilemma until it arrives and see if it fits.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 09:54

sleep high st would be gap. Does John Lewis count as high end Grin? If not then no idea!

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 09:58

Not totally convinced by Jill sander. Reminds me cos in that it could either look amazing or look like a sack of spuds. The sort of clothes that definitely need trying on.

Obviously if I had the lifestyle elie Saab and his gorgeous evening gowns would be my preferred designer.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 09:59

any of these would do just fine thanks.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 10:05

Oh, to get married again

mignonette · 26/08/2013 10:06

Sleep. Good choices. I have an idea about how you dress from that. I coveted a Ferretti olive green pleated vaguely twenties style dress worn by Amber Valetta et al on the runway back in 2003. I wanted it as my Wedding dress sigh.

So romantic. I think Carven (as Marsha namechecked) would be a good compromise between feminine yet functional. The designer specifically addressed the crazy price points of other designers (Times Style yesterday) and seems to want to be sold as opposed to being lusted after from afar. I think Christopher Kane in his toned down looks would be a good designer too for you Sleep. When he does romantic here , it is so different.

Rodarte can be dreamy too especially their seafoam dresses. The level of detail in their work is couture. When you see it in the flesh it takes your breath away.

Drywhiteplease · 26/08/2013 10:08

QueenC love the Alaia dress....forest green is one of my fav colours.
Carol V is a beautiful lady but by god she really does need to dress a bit better . Saw her IRL once and couldn't stop looking at her.....all boobs and bum and sooooo tall, didn't seem as nice as on telly. Sad

mignonette · 26/08/2013 10:12

Queen Take the dress to a dressmaker and get it tailored to fit. That way it'll look fantastic. Good call on removing the belt-that is advice a lot of fashion people adhere to.

Blimey Sleep what High St stores? I think possibly &Other Stories or Kooples for higher end and for lower you can't beat New Look for some really good cotton sweaters/cardigans, T's, Espadrilles and pants. As long as you check the fabric composition, I am wearing stuff from there that is on its fourth year. Not bad for a £9,99 cardigan!

LinusDKD · 26/08/2013 10:18

Black Ash Spirals on the Outnet!

LinusDKD · 26/08/2013 10:31

queenc I love those brogues but I don't hink I suit them. Church's often have lovely brogues, I once saw a patent leather pair when shopping for shoes for DH.

Hobbs have a nice cobalt scarf I pinned a while ago, maybe you should have a look?

I won't tell you how many scarves I own (some lovely Dries van Noten scarves passed down from DM) but I always seem to wear the same ones. Blush

LOVE Elie Saab! He has a store in Geneva and I'm always tempted to go in but I'm not really his target audience.

marsha please do me too!

sleep my high street shop would have to be Massimo Dutti but I'll have to think about the high end one a bit more.

MrsR I think I have seen that MiH jumper elsewhere but I can't remember where. Will have a think and let you know.

shopafrolic · 26/08/2013 10:41

Poor Marsha! Look what started! Easier because you've met me.......

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 10:43

Ok here goes, have fired up the Mac. Multiple windows open.

Sleep you are absolutely Balmain, but also thrown in the luxurious Gucci (not the logo stuff) and McQueen for some drama. And some Marant or Rag&Bone for every day and Drome leather leggings. this and Balmain. Balmain very strong on NaP this season, could probably get something more you. And Acne, the red dress.

QueenC you are clean lines but also pretty, hence the pretty Alaia part (not too directional). You can do black and classic. Elie Saab is to die for, as they say. Some fresh CK

Dry pretty, classic and fresh. Erdem. Playing tennis. Even Erdem and Chanel have toughened up this season, you're classic Erdem and Chanel.

Mig, well you know loads about your style. But Marni and Prada (the difficult to wear stuff). Some clashing Celine. This colour jumper. this. here

MrsR you are cool, fresh and stylish. So Maje, who else? you can do print and print. here.

Liberty you are fresh, French and pretty. So Maje, Sandro and Vanessa Bruno. here, here or maybe here

Amber you know your style more than I could, but you are Wang, Maje, Rocco and Chanel Boy. here

And any one up for this the colour!

this is stunning someone claim this. And this Preen

Ok link overload! Anyone else? I can do anyone but I am fading! And if I am wrong won't go on. Grin

OneLittleLady · 26/08/2013 10:44

Morning ladies. I return from a near 24 hours of sleep. I wish I was kidding but I spent the whole of yesterday near enough in bed.

I'd be curious as to which designers you lovely lot would dress me in. I have a very high street aesthetic so it would be interesting who you think would work within that

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 10:44

Ok Linus hang on, I just said to dh take the dc take the dc, I need to do this. Who needs a job eh? Wink

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 10:45

Ok One you're pretty easy as grunge is in. Back soon.

Drywhiteplease · 26/08/2013 10:46

Amber I was thinking the same thing! But I sometimes see your blog and think "I'd wear that"! I've bought a few bits you've recommended (Gold Gigis, Clarks snakeskin sandals with block heel).
MNV has defo encouraged me to try items out of my comfort zne ( biker jkt, albeit in stone).......only a matter of time before i get some pistols i guess.
Nice to have different styles though......bet you'll all be expecting me to turn up at MU in a flowery dress! Most of the time my uniform is skinny jeans though.
QueenC you introduced me to Ellie Saab evening wear...it's stunning, like you I'd wear any of it.

I'm finding these questions difficult......I'm a flitter generally, like bits from all over the place. Will have to think. Can I have a department store or would that be cheating Sleep?

Sleepwhenidie · 26/08/2013 10:49

Mig that CKane dress is beautiful. I am also a complete sucker for a bit of sparkle! Funnily enough I spotted an Alberta Ferretti ad recently and thought of you, woman with a beautiful burgundy dress (looked a bit like felt type fabric) with appliqué on shoulder and hip iirc. I think it was in this month's Elle, will try and link.

Yep, I love Elie Saab too, and Marchesa. I really wanted a Marchesa dress as wedding dress but simply too £££ and OTT for the type of wedding I had.

Sleepwhenidie · 26/08/2013 10:53

Department stores cheating Grin!

Drywhiteplease · 26/08/2013 10:55

Nice Marsha!!! You must be exhausted!
This is all my style

Sleepwhenidie · 26/08/2013 10:55

here is the dress Mig, red, sure it was darker in the ad but still beautiful.
