Those corset images are grim aren't they!

shopafrolic · 26/08/2013 08:19

LOVED them Marsha - sorry, maybe you didn't see my feedback bit as got carried away with other chat. They got me thinking that me dressing in a minimalist way isn't necessarily a bad thing i.e. I don't need to dress things up if it's not me.
Particularly loved Acne (but worry about the colours for me.....), Phillip Lim was fab and I do definitely love Dagmar - the colours, shapes and prints. I've pinned lots of lovely stuff....
Thanks lots to think about..... (I actual dreamt about it too!)

Oh yes you did Shop I did miss it! And also didn't realise you we're a 40 in the pistol. Annoying the 40 is a tad big for me and the 39 is too small they are quite big for their size.

Really pleased you like them. Dressing in a minimalist way can be a wonderful thing.

I think I visualise everyone's names with designers, helps remember the style.

shopafrolic · 26/08/2013 08:32

That's because you know your designer stuff! I'm still learning! Thank you again though, our MU conversation, window shopping and then the designer links have given me lots to think about. Now my wardrobe base is set I think I only need a few items a year..... considering what I used to spend on 20+ bits from Whistles / A&W / high street a year, I could definitely get 2 or 3 better quality designer bits instead.....
So my focus for A/W is Pistols and a chunky knit. (and possibly one day dress).

Good idea. Then you can just add over time. Winter is a great time to buy stuff you really love (and might cost a bit more). I'll probably do a couple of full price things, then top up with outnet speciale and then sale stuff.

Drywhiteplease · 26/08/2013 08:40

Mignonette don't mention Little House on The Prairie.....I'll start wailing! [Grin] Was brought up on that show (and the Waltons) at times I thought they were my own family! Was distraught when Michael Landon died IRL....never seen a man weep soooo much! And I haven't recovered from Mary going blind.....what a shocker Shock

QueenC the problem now is I have to iron it all.

Shop In Style Oct issue has an add by Jaeger with a lovely
chunky polo neck, not in stock yet, but might be Roth keeping an eye out.

Sunday Times style...p11 animal slippers by Hobbs, hope the M and S ones pick up Wed look similar.

And a "blirt" blouse/shirt to go with your skort, coatigan, jeggings, etc....the ever changing vernacular of fashion.

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 08:41

And thanks! Thanks I can't help it you all trip across the thread looking fantastic in my head. (Sure you do in reality too).

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 08:42

Dry I saw those, they looked great.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 08:46

Talking of slipper shoes, I tried some on yesterday. I really did look like I was wearing slippers Grin. I was going to try brogues on but looking at them I jut knew they weren't me. If they were I think these are lovely.

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 08:50

They are lovely QueenC.

Annianni · 26/08/2013 08:53

I got a good suede brush from John Lewis, QueenC.
It's double sided and I use the rubber side on my Uggs.

Give them a good spray before you wear them.

Drywhiteplease · 26/08/2013 08:55

Marsha who are mine then? I thought I knew about designers until I came in this thread.
Hadn't heard of Maje or Sandro but have googled and could imagine Shop in them

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 08:57

Dry off top of my head you are Erdem. Pretty and chic. I'm going to see if I can do that thing where I find everyone an outfit... I may be some time.

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 08:59

And what about classic Chanel? Need something else too, for balance.

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 09:00

And something young and fresh because you are not stuffy- Carven.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 09:01

Ooh yes, I'd be interested to see what you choose for me.

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 09:07

QueenC that last jumpsuit was perfect (poly aside), that classic but contemporary look. It was DvF but I don't think DvF sums you up.

So far Roland Mouret, DvF but not all if it the straighter stuff and Alaia. Your style is quite elusive, in a good way, very refined.

mignonette · 26/08/2013 09:08

Morning all.

Reminiscing about Little House.....I have the Little House cookbook here and have ordered a travel book where the author goes on a pilgrimage to all the Little House sites here. And I have the Waltons boxsets Grin....

I am very happy to be buying Winter clothes as this is my season. I took a parka to the beach yesterday and had a few happy moments wearing it over bare legs, my Hasbeens, a striped tube knee length skirt and floppy grey marl sweatshirt (Channelling 'Fame') until I overheated.

I need a coat, a pair of boots, a pair of Winter shoes and some
separates in winter weights. I too love the pared back Scandi look but I also like colour. Vera Moda was a much loved High Street brand for me when it opened because of the simple styles w/ muted colours-all ashes of roses, Gustavian and chalk blue, moss and grey (Remember The Thornbirds and the 'ashes of roses' dress Meggy wore?).

As for the new season I am really looking forward to it. I do like the Scandi aesthetic and loved Vera Moda when it first opened as it was an affordable High St version of the look with very good quality at the price point. It is a gentle introduction for those a little nervous of COS. This season I will be building a look around this &OtherStories silk shell top that I purchased several weeks ago. I am considering these as a smart work to early evening shoe and will be recycling last years little black skirt here which will go with both of those items plus everything else!

I did think about a pink coat but have decided this is an ephemeral 'fashion' look and probably will not last and I tend to want my coats to bridge several years. I don't wear coats much as overheat very easily so they tend to last. I cannot bear wearing belted coats as I fidget with them too much so am looking for either a straight car coat or a curved cocoon with normal shoulders. Stella's oversized shoulders are for runway models, not me.

Queen I'm not suited to slippers either. I look like I forgot to put my shoes on.

MrsRadicchio · 26/08/2013 09:08

shop what you said about buying a couple of expensive items a season and building up a classic wardrobe is what I would ideally like to do.

post colours, I am planning a wardrobe cull, then will see what I need.

I do love buying new things though, so I need to retrain myself to "buy less, buy well".

MarshaBrady · 26/08/2013 09:09

Hope I'm not completely off btw and you're all thinking no way Grin

Drywhiteplease · 26/08/2013 09:18

Look forward to my outfit Marsha. I like Erdem a lot, don't have any yet . Chanel of coursewill never own Just checked out MuiMui on Nap and would wear most of it !

The only item I actually "need" is a washable padded parka with hood for freezing playground ....will spend. Bought the MN favourite Merrell Wakefield last year (Unpadded) and its the best performance coat ever....but in freezing weather not warm enough.

Other than that I want to invest in a few pieces for work, have ear marked shoes, boots, a couple of skirts and a couple of jumpers.

What I "want" list is evolving......Wink

mignonette · 26/08/2013 09:24

Stunning coat by Rick Owens. Very expensive though.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 09:37

marsha just looked up some alaia stuff as I thought it was all a bit out there for me but this is absolutely stunning.

QueenCadbury · 26/08/2013 09:39

RM is lovely but I'm afraid that nowadays I just associate it with carol vorderman. If only she selected dresses that fitted then they would look fine.

AmberNectarine · 26/08/2013 09:41

Basically I think dry is the opposite to me style-wise Grin No bad thing!

mig I agree on the coat thing. Anyone wearing a powder pink coat next year is going to look dated. I bought a coat last year - classic black, tailored single-breasted wool/cashmere mix Calvin Klein. Quite masculine in style. I don't normally go nuts for classic styles but I love this one. I would like a coat in a 'colour' at some point to mix it up a bit though - probably blue/purple/burgundy.

Just bought the kids little down-fill gilets from the new Uniqlo kids collection - they love them and refuse to take them off. DD (2) is running round wearing hers over a bare chest! Also bought them each a new pair of Superga in the sale. At least I can shop vicariously.
