Grin dry I think even I would have balked at those and I LOVE VW

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 20/08/2013 20:44

! Shop I was googling black boucle jackets last night! That M Kors one really fits the bill.

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2013 20:45

Oh dry what a story! Thank goodness I've been really lucky with DH, he's a good present buyer. The only bad example I can think of was when he bought me an American Apparel dress (which I really like) in a size XS. It does fit, but man it's tight. He obviously loves it, so I reserve it for his birthday etc. Otherwise I've been quite lucky I think. my ex was AWFUL though.

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2013 20:45

Aw thanks MrsR it was hopeless compared with Dry's Grin. Just warming up the room. (Or something)

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 20:45

Get in quick then Grumpy you know what happens when we link on here.........

Dh bought me Cluedo the game in the first year we were dating. What? Confused.

BrandyAlexander · 20/08/2013 20:48

Oh Dry GrinGrinGrinGrin sooo funny. Dh has been a v safe present buyer for fear of getting it wrong.

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 20:48

DH wouldn't dare buy clothes or accessories for me. He had me choose my engagement ring as he knows how fussy I am. My proposal was "well if you want that one that's fine". Who says romance is dead? That said, he's fab with other gestures and gifts. Perfect books, flowers, packets of Percy Pigs, and when I write a list of ideas he usually buys me everything on it rather than the one or two items I was hoping for!

OneLittleLady · 20/08/2013 20:48

One EX DP once bought me crotchless leather knickers......No idea why he thought that was a good idea and NO I didn't wear them!

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 20:50

Shame about the shoes MrsR will you try again in another store or have you given up completely?

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 20/08/2013 20:50

Proper lol at Cluedo!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 20/08/2013 20:50

Great story Dry!

About 4 years ago DH bought me purple Joules glossy wellies with a yellow strip up the back for Christmas. They were too big, I already had wellies and they were the only thing he bought me. I'm afraid I wasn't quite as diplomatic as you. The following year he bought me some really cool VW shoes he knew I'd been lusting after, so at least he's heading in the right direction!

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 20:52

Marsha PM - and it should read bit not but!

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2013 20:52

I chose my ring too Shop. I think I'd terrified him with the ranting about how much I hated the Tiffany solitaire my ex gave me. Fwiw I'm glad, because my ring is so unconventional.

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 20:55

I remember that tale Amber (and the first ring) Grin

OP posts:
Drywhiteplease · 20/08/2013 20:56

Marsha can't find your tights story.

Amber DH is great at technology (IPhone, iPad) and perfume (I only wear one) but anything fashion is just beyond him, that's my area and I'm happy with that (I buy all his clothes apart from his suits which he has made by a guy who comes to his office).

We have clearly defined roles;

Me...food,fashion,house,theatre,film,drinking booze
Him.....garden,cars,sport,finances,buying booze

A simple relationship that works for us Grin

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2013 20:58

Ah it was nothing Dry Grin just a trip in the dark. Your division sounds great to me.

Novice sounds very exciting if you do go for it.

Drywhiteplease · 20/08/2013 20:59

Amber I remember your ring...the one you have is fabulous!
My sis had to tell her now DH she didn't like her engagement ring! Gosh that was a horrible situation.
I chose my ring too....awkward because I kept seeing the prices and in those days we were not v flush

LinusDKD · 20/08/2013 20:59

one Shock

dry that's so funny but I bet you were nearer to tears at the time. I think DF hasn't bought DM anything for the last 38 years, ever since he bought DM an expensive handbag she hated. Now she chooses and he pays. Wink

DH buys me really lovely presents and remembers years later that I said that I liked X or Y. He doesn't buy me clothes though because whenever he points something out in the shop window I never ever like it.

LinusDKD · 20/08/2013 21:00

Oh and now I want CAKE but it's time to go to bed!

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 21:01

We do that too Dry
Me - food, fashion, house decorating, cleaning, holiday planning, bill paying, night out planning, childcare, garden except lawn, cars
Him - shooting, dogs, and lawn! Oh and working like a dog!
Drinking we do 50/50 Grin

OP posts:
Drywhiteplease · 20/08/2013 21:05

Yes Shop I should have added packing, cleaning, social diary to my list and we both drink the booze too but he likes to buy it, and I irrationally get v Angry if he forgets to top my glass up this is "a man's job,my DM always said

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 20/08/2013 21:05

I'm afraid I succumbed and have bought the Oasis leather skirt.

But I am (annoyingly) returning the orange Hobbs Ada dress which came today and I was hoping to wear to York races tomorrow. I really wanted to love it, but it just looked too big on me, so off it goes.

On the brightside it means I am now in credit Wink

Drywhiteplease · 20/08/2013 21:06

linus I was v close to tears.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 20/08/2013 21:07

Our division of labour goes

Him: Horses
Me: Horses and everything else.
