It's a long story..........

foxysocks · 20/08/2013 18:58

how can you even ask that, marsha?! F&B bikers, natch.

yes wheeled out is good.. is it very british? do you hear it in oz?

foxysocks · 20/08/2013 18:58

we're here all night dry just for a change

AmberNectarine · 20/08/2013 18:59

I was wearing VW today. Topical.

I like that skirt dry. I have a few tartan/check flannel shirts so that's my obligation fulfilled.

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2013 19:01

I tripped over that killer plastic hoop they put round the tights when you order two. I had just had ds2. Luckily I did not have my newborn in arms as I thudded to ground in the middle of the night. Dh was crap too with my what if, no what IF... I'm over it now of course Grin

Dry's to be fair is probably more exciting than that one.

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2013 19:03

Yes you're set Foxy, totally, think ill have to be f&b boots too!

Dry need you ask? DC - bath, bed I need a story.

foxysocks · 20/08/2013 19:05

oof marsha! painful. that hoop is obv a death trap. write to H&S, forthwith.

oooooooo - too rupert the bear??

foxysocks · 20/08/2013 19:07

that's not a skirt, it's a BELT

MarshaBrady · 20/08/2013 19:10

You could definitely do the VW tartan skinnies, love them. Mango- homepage.

foxysocks · 20/08/2013 19:13

I think the tartan skinnies will be too big for me in the sizes they have left. also could not take the ribbing I would get from my husband.

nope, it's got to be that first asymmetric anthracite VW. droooool.

LinusDKD · 20/08/2013 19:31

Some winter wedding dresses for grumpy

black lace

I don't like the way they have styled the dress but I like the fact that it's a bit Downton Abbey-esque but still modern.

blue

Not sure if this is your colour but I love the detailing on the shoulders.

Annianni · 20/08/2013 19:39

Shop, measure the length of your ankle strap.
Then email Whistles and see what they say.

There was a decent amount of strap to go through the buckle.
I didn't struggle to fasten them.

Dh is off this week and after 3 days with the ds's, he sent me out for the day for a break.
whilst muttering something about how I've not gone insane these past 4 weeks :o

I was told to get some lunch and wander round the shops.
I saw and tried on some lovely things.
Will link when/if I get Ds2 asleep.

And try and catch up.

I did actually feel nice today for a change.
I wore black Sam Edelman Gwyneth's
Hudson Beth baby bootcuts
Dark grey linen slouchy tee from Massimo Dutti
With a white vest underneath, lots of bracelets
And my black Whistles tote bag.

I had a red tartan fitted jacket, I think it was Diesel or similar in the early 90's.
So I'll pass this time... Might get some tartan knickers instead...

LinusDKD · 20/08/2013 19:49

mig how are you feeling today?

novice do you still love the house, despite the fact you'll have to spend £££ on it?

grumpy love the leather oasis wrap skirt but I don't have the thighs legs to pull that off. I am on the lookout for a leather pencil skirt but have yet to find anything that I love.

Oh and not sure I like the way Louise Lombard looks now (like she would care what a stranger on a forum thinks)

That Hobbs skirt is beautiful dry and queenc! I especially like the blue.

And the tartan LA dry bug maybe wear it with a shoeboot and not brogues?

Good shopping one!

Is anyone else looking forward to the Great British Bake Off? Blush

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 20:00

Dry I haven't heard the VW tale - are you sure it was on here???? Not sure about brogues but I like the skirt.
Anni outfit sounds good. Definitely no strap to really tuck in. Might head to Whistles with them tomorrow and double check. They're fine but not perfect, but I've worn them so they can't go back.

Linus Feeling less pain now one of my colleagues Px me some Diazepam to relax my muscles. TGBBO! Angel Cake, Victoria Sponge and Chocolate baking tonight!

Have been looking & pinning some of the original Marc Jacobs grunge photoshoots w/ Kristin McMenemy, Nadja Auermann and Naomi Campbell. it still looks so contemporary probably because the look is so prevalent still with younger people.

Foxy I was writing earlier about my ice blue/black wool tartan slim leg pants. They are identical to the ones out now so will wear them again this season once it is cool enough. I have some flannel plaid shirts cut in a jacket style 'borrowed' from StepS who is sponsored by a major skateboard clothing/lifestyle company (stepSon is a champion skater). They are beautifully cut and not bulky at all.

I found a pair of black and cream tartan stiletto's under my bed last week (old Paul Smith from years ago) and wondering what to try them out with. I love shopping from under the bed/old suitcases/spare room wardrobes.

Now looking for some A/W sweaters. Plan to buy a length of good flannel plaid in a double thickness weave and machine sew it onto the bottom of one of my wool sweaters like one I saw on sale. It looked really good, similar to those lace bottomed sweaters last year. As long as the thickness is right so that it doesn't fold or buckle, It should work. I love adapting clothes. When those Voyage cardigans were the thing in the early 90's I sewed Velvet narrow ribbon along the edges/neck/ plackets of my cardigans. Changing the buttons too gave a good look at one fraction of the £700 price.

I've seen, just today, some VW-esqe tartan skinnies in Primark of all places! I may go back for some once I can work out what size I need

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 20:34

Linus I've never watched GBBO

Ok.....my VW trauma, tried and failed to be brief.........for Foxy and Marsha and anyone else with time....prepare to cry......

One Christmas, about 6yrs ago, we were packing the car to go to stay with family in London. Noticed a suspicious bin bagged package containing 2 pink VW bags snooper
For most ladies obsessed with fashion this would be exciting.....married to my DH,who is good with safe jewellery (which I like) but terrible with fashion, it made me feel a bit sick.
By Christmas Day I was extremely nervous. I am a terrible liar, speak before processing anything via my brain and show everything on my face.
The whole family had noticed the 2 pink bags under the tree.....and of course I had to open them in front of everyone. Sad
By now, my MNV friends, you probably know that I'm a very safe, kind of classic dresser, I'm not really cutting edge....I love VW tailoring (although don't own any) think its second to none, and adore her dresses, they do wonders for a woman's body...but somehow the chances of getting one of her dresses in the right colour and size seemed just a step to far for my DH (who once bought me a size 34a bra with size 18 knickers as a Christmas pressie!!)
It was HORRENDOUS!!
My present was a hold all sized white hand bag with neon yellow and green graffiti like print scribbled all over it and natural leather handles, and bless him, he'd bought the matching purse too![Shock] Nice for some, but at the time I didn't really spend on handbags and was Shock because with the money I could have had an amazing classic, investment bag. The VW shop where I live is right next to Mulberry, Louis Vuitton and Harvey Nichols!!!!Sad need a face crying here
Anyway, there was a metaphorical drum roll and sharp intake of breath as I opened the bag....and I was Shock and Hmm and Sad
DH "You don't like it"
SIL " it's very 'Different',
Mil " what a colourful bag"
I squeaked " it's lovely"
Horrible, horrible, shit, shit, shit!!!!! He'd done it with the best intentions. But I really can't stress how much I hated that bag and was gutted and didn't want to offend by saying it was horrid. He did say it was the last time he'd surprise me phew and I did feel really bad.

Anyway on our way back from London, we popped in to our VW shop and got a credit note. I eventually boughtb2 VW bags which I kind of like.

About 6months later, when we could laugh about it, DH explained "why?"

  1. He wanted to surprise me
  2. He knew I liked to have if different stuff not MNV different obv
  3. There's a v stylish female partner in his office who wears VW bags with her serious, plain business wear and he had always thought she looked cool but I don't do BW

Luckily we have recovered.....I felt v bad for a long time because I realised he'd really tried and it was a lovely (if risky) thought. I'm not very good at unsubtle hinting, and think it presumptuous anyway..........now what happens is I give him a comprehensive Xmas and birthday list, usually very cheap stuff (Books etc) but if we're ever out shopping (about once every 2 years because he hates shopping) and I see something that I like he'll buy it then (like my ring).

Now we say "oh is that a VW?" meaning a "bad idea"!Grin

MrsRadicchio · 20/08/2013 20:40

I like that first skirt Foxy but why is it called an "accident skirt"? I may have been potty training DS for far too long but that is just what it makes me think of!

Well, my local Gap did have the leopard shoes in it. Agree with Amber they come up big - go one size up. I didn't get them in the end as the blue looked lighter on one of the shoes - fussy, but having noticed it, it would annoy me.

Liberty I am with you on the 30% off - some shops I resent paying full price in!

I like that skirt Dry - how about with heeled brogues?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 20/08/2013 20:40

Linus both dresses are beautiful, but I especially love the black lace - it's gorgeous and I have some 1920s style shoes that would go perfectly with it. Definitely one for the short list already!

shopafrolic · 20/08/2013 20:41

Brilliant Dry - I definitely hadn't heard that tale Grin

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 20/08/2013 20:43

I love that story Dry. Brilliant.

BrandyAlexander · 20/08/2013 20:43

Evening all! I have looked at all the tartan and definitely think its nit me. Though I did used to have a beautiful camel and black check skirt from about 13 years (the last time tartan was fashionable!). Pity about my declutter policy!

So still no decision on the house. Dh woke up this morning and after all his negativity yesterday decided he wanted it.Confused I think I need to get over the fact that it might be a bit of hard work for a few months. Oh and the reality that we would have no money till we sold current house and so i would have to be on a spending ban is beginning to sink in!

MrsRadicchio · 20/08/2013 20:43

Great story Dry! Can you find a link to the bag?? Trying to imagine it.

Marsha I loved your tights story too.
