HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Yes Joycey, please do link, that sounds great. I've been told I can go darker into the autumn palette to Kingfisher/Teal.

I like this BR turquoise statement necklace over a grey t-shirt, not very wintery though! Maybe over a navy dress in winter.

Mumelie, there are some lovely grey, tan (and a good marine navy blue) bags at Mimi Berry. Particularly like this, this and this.

cardoon, I currently have my little flip colour palette held against screen currently pondering that question Smile. I think it's closest to no. 25 Leaf Green but might be a bit emerald. I guess you'd have to check it out in the flesh to be sure.

Thank you for mascara recommendations by the way, I'll go to Boots for a play tomorrow.

I think that John Lewis bag could possibly be leaf but monitors can lie so best to swatch it in RL. Great bag though isn't it?

Sorry Holly, not sure. Possibly True Spring? Slap bang in the middle?

In HoC, how many different Springs are there? What are they? I'm a blue but no idea of the others as the two other people on my day were a summer & an autumn.

Not entirely sure, I'm a paintbox spring (high contrast), then there is blue and light and true/warm I think.

Report
BeginnerSAHM · 13/08/2013 19:18

Think warm spring is a true spring in CMB.

I'm blue 'ish'. And a clear warm in CMB. Definitely.

Got light/mid brown hair (with a few golden blonde highlights - v few...), dark blue but brightish eyes and pale yellow toned skin.

By the way, I think nars 'orgasm' blusher looks v good on springs - not as sparkly as it looks in the palette.

My double star colours are coral, geranium pink, all the turquoises (think 2? Don't have swatchy thing), tan (!!! How do you wear that head to toe with out looking like a giant poo?) and navy is double star at 75%. As is bitter chocolate (or some name like that...).

I love green so on the look out for more of it. Think I'm a double star at 75% for leaf or Kelly green. Must check pamphlet!

Seriously, try Benetton for good spring colour basic knits.... I forgot that shop still existed Wink.

Love the idea of springs being persuaded to wear green lipstick.

Love m birger scarf by the way. Pink bag and BR necklace are also great but I'm not brave enough... Yet. Plus, suspected classic traits are probably keeping my quite conservative!

I've just read my booklet again and it says bright spring rather than blue spring as I'd thought. I'm not sure if that means I'm paintbox or just bright?! I sound pretty similar to you beginner, perhaps eyes and hair a little lighter but similar skin tone. My double stars are also coral, geranium, poppy and all the blues/violet so there can't be that much in it?!

I'm a paintbox spring which my consultant said was the same as a bright spring. I have chestnut coloured hair, green eyes and my skin is yellow toned with a pinkish undertone.

Gilly, would you be kind enough to explain the high contrast thing to me please? I got very little info from my consultant. I was the only one there and it took most of the appointment for her to work out what season I was, which left little time for anything else and it all became a bit hurried.

Report
Gillybobs · 13/08/2013 20:08

Yeah I got little info from the consultant either, I've done loads of reading and TONNES of chatting with season and others about it to come to my conclusions. So, I have lots of contrast in my natural colouring, very pale skin, very dark hair, extremely blue eyes. I need to mirror that level of contrast in my outfits for the balance to look right. So three items of clothing in three brights just looks odd on me. My absolute best looks generally involve a dark neutral (navy or grey) a light neutral (cream) and one bright. My favourite brights are coral, turquoise or leaf green. I'm dipping my toe into yellow too...so far just with a bag and a scarf.

Beginner my classic means I can't go too zany but I do like bright accessories now that I can see what they add to an outfit that's otherwise neutral

This lady writes like her head is full of unicorns but if you can tolerate that you can glean loads from her writing...here is her take on bright spring...my colouring is very mary poppins and her articles really helped me understand the contrast thing

Ok - so, double stars are: tan (ugh), tangerine, coral, geranium, flamingo pink, Kerry green, corn yellow, turquoise and aquamarine. Singles are chocolate, bright navy, cinnamon, honey, terracotta (yuk), poppy, apple green and bright blue. The consultant said I was on the 'blue-ish end' so I suppose I'm not as blue as some springs. I think she was trying to explain why I was misdiagnosed (by HoC 8 years ago) as a winter but, to be honest, it's fairly obvious to me (now!) that I look pretty drained in most winter colours....

So I'm not a true 'blue spring'! Therefore, if you have similar double stars to me, you are probably not on the bluest end of spring!! Just blue-ish. Hope that helps a bit Confused.

Like gillybobs, I have a lot of natural contrast - pale skin, almost black eyebrows, bright dark blue eyes, quite dark pink lips naturally and light brown hair. Bit weird colouring really Wink.

Ladies, I need your help.
Sadly I have a friends funeral to go to in the next week or two. As a bright spring I can just about get away with black away from my face and have a black dress that i rarely use since discovering my best colours with a silver subtle pattern which may just about work. Not ideal, but best I can come up with so far.
Is thre any way of 'springing' my outfit appropriately? Am worried anyhing springish will be too bright and cheerful iykwim. Or another way people have found worked. Or shall I just forget all about it for the day?

You * sound similar to mine Beginner* .

A combination thats surprised me is wearing tan/honey and bright blue together. I have a tan wool jacket and when I wear a bright blue top underneath it , it looks amazing. I just wear denims on my bottom half to avoid the rainbow bright effect Grin

Id forget about it and just wear a spring lippy, I think it makes a huge difference to your face even if the clothes are compliant

I'm actually wearing black today, whoknows.
It's a black jersey shift dress but I'm wearing it with a wide tan wrap belt, tan wedge sandals and a cream cardigan...

Gilly, Navy (or indigo denim) with a burnt orange or tan jacket is one of my favourite looks Smile

The conversation about contrast is really interesting, btw, as I have extremely low contrast. Last night I went out wearing head to toe cream and got told I looked fantastic, lol!

vitamin isnt it fascinating? I honestly think if you mirror your own levels of contrast you come up with the best combinations of colour. I wish House of Colour spent more time on that during the colour day, ive learnt most of that from the unicorn lady, linked above.

GlassesDontSuitMe · 14/08/2013 11:52

Gilly Thank you for posting the unicorn lady link, I think I now get that I need high contrast and that it's probably where I have been going wrong. My colouring is very similar to the Mary Poppins photo except I have green eyes.

All the darker colours in my swatch are at best two ticks and most are for below waist. Is anyone else the same?

I really want a navy coat (two ticks) if I get a scarf in a star colour, will that be ok?

Sorry for all the questions, the penny will drop, eventually Grin
