I did some work with Ted Baker many years back and was taken through the manufacturing details by one of their creatives - some of their techniques were fabulous. Especially in the tailoring. It seemed to go downhill for a while - perhaps they're back on the up........

I find this length so evocative because of my childhood adoration of the ballet 'Les Sylphides , picture here and the calf length tutu's. The combination of slender upper body shape (tucked in sweater/T shirt) and tulip shaped skirt is so feminine yet can be made modern via colour and print. Am thinking that Queen's bright belts would look particularly effective wrapped around the waist of these skirts.

mignonette · 29/07/2013 13:52

I have a rose gold and white gold Russian wedding ring. Kinder on my very white skin that doesn't tan much.

QueenCadbury · 29/07/2013 13:53

paris not sure whether HOF do or not. Luckily we have a fossil store. I love drooling over the bags as they normally have such good colours! I'm sure the dc won't let me tomorrow though.

mig I agree about belts. I would never have thought of wearing a coloured one prior to having my colours done as I stuck to neutrals ie black and navy. I try to follow the 3 colour rule though and so a belt is an easy way of adding colour without looking like a childrens TV presenter.

Right, off to the cinema now to see monsters university (tomorrow will be despicable me, next week will be the smurfs!). It's cold and wet so thinking I'll need a cardi on. It's been a while since I've needed to wear one.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 29/07/2013 13:54

Mig I have a tutu skirt just like the one in the picture! I like to wear it with a cotton t shirt, lots of eyeliner, messy hair and fierce heels

QueenCadbury · 29/07/2013 13:57

Okay, so I have another 5 mins before I need to leave....

I do love all those looks with mid length skirts but what do you wear in your feet? That's what I always struggle with. Because I walk a lot with school run I need to wear comfy and practical shoes which is why I'm always in jeans as they go so easily with converse. Do skirts that length need heels?

I'm going to try and branch out a bit this winter. Maybe I can try some stuff on in October and you all can be my personal stylists?

QueenCadbury · 29/07/2013 13:58

paris you sound so cool.

mignonette · 29/07/2013 13:59

Paris you are a woman after my own heart. Bet you look great.

Queen Grin at presenter comparison-i am probably guilty of that sometimes. I look like the mad woman of Wonga today with salt crusty-hair (salt spray not needed), no make up and brine scoured complexion. Have eaten so much if I go in the water I will sink like a Peter Andre record. Enjoy the cinema!

mignonette · 29/07/2013 14:12

Queen I like those pointy Winkle Picker style shoes but with a solid block heel in warmer/drier weather.

this Dior has a good shoe/skirt going on. I also like heeled shoe boots, Monk strap shoes, ankle strap low heeled pumps but not boots proper. Think you can have a 'ladylike' style of shoe in a fiercer colour or a fiercer shoe style in a prim colour but not both together IFYKWIM? I think a less slumpy plimsoll might look cool too. Maybe an old fashioned school PE style?

Adore these Kors shorts too.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 29/07/2013 14:15

QueenC I can't wear mid length with flats as I'm not tall enough and I look frumpy and childish at the same time!

Mig I bet you look lush really Grin

mignonette · 29/07/2013 14:21

I can scrub up well (as DH says) but at the moment i am merely salt scrubbed...Grin.

I'm not tall, in fact I'm fairly average and wear mid calf length (and do not care about what folks might think) as I adore it so. Keeping the top half lean and simple can help as can standing tall and making sure the skirt fits really well over hips to thigh. This helps create 'flow' as I am now calling it. Choose shoes that show some foot cleavage, even toe cleavage and have pointed or tapered shapes and do not look too clumpy can help shorter folks wear longer lengths.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 29/07/2013 14:24

Ah, you see I can't wear pretty little ballet pumps etc as I have small, wide feet Sad

mignonette · 29/07/2013 14:28

I'm not a ballet pump wearer either as not keen on them on me but plenty of shoes are made for people with wider feet and you may be able to find some with elongated proportions that deceive the eye a bit. I have enormous size 8's! And my body shape/height is not in proportion with that. OB/GYN made erroneous assumption that I'd sail through CB- how wrong he was [hollow laugh]

mignonette · 29/07/2013 14:30

me after days by the sea!

shopafrolic · 29/07/2013 14:41

Paris you're my new girl crush. Loving your style.

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 29/07/2013 14:46

Lol Mig I rock a smilar look apres plage!

I'm dreading what my hair is going to look like when I go to S.E. Asia for 3 weeks. I keep washing my hair and leaving it to dry naturally in a bun, plaits, ponytail etc to try and create a 'beachy' look rather than a frizz bomb.

Re flats and midi skirts, I might be able to get away with something like this

Oh, and your nougat posts are killing me!

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 29/07/2013 14:50

Aww, ta Shop. I have a lot of gay friends who egg me on shamelessly. They love womens clothes, though have no desire to wear them themselves. They see me as a living dress up doll!

I was at Nottingham Gay Pride on saturday and the adoration from dozens of stylish males with no sexual agenda made for a perfect day that and the ice cream, cake and booze I stuffed down my gullett!

Annianni · 29/07/2013 14:53

I'm never going to catch up with you lot!

Thanks for the star sweater QueenC, it's very me... just too £££ :o
I think I pinned a similar one earlier this year.

Lovely Nano Linus, your weekend away sounds divine Envy

Who was it who co-sleeps?
I do it too... infact we're moving ds2 out of the small bedroom and buying him a double bed, so I can go in there when he wants a cuddle most nights instead of dh ending up in the single bed :o

J Crew order has just arrived, the grey linen tee is lovely.
Quite a thick fabric, probably more suitable for cooler days.

This bikini top is quite nice. But i've ordered a different size to try.

Also ordered this one to try and the linen tee in white.

And I may have ordered the J Crew cashmere boyfriend sweater in neon pink yesterday... whoops!

Good luck for your evening entertaining QueenC... just give them lots of alcohol and it'll be fine... well done on the weight loss too.

Well done with the diet Liberty...

And you too One.

I've taken delivery today of a new super padded bike seat, especially for big bums...
I can't wait to try it out later :o

Any news on the job front Marsha?

Glad your weekend went well Shop.
I spotted this cream linen and silk tee which is £31.51 with discounts and taxes... it looks like a nice alternative to the Whistles seam back tees?

I spent the weekend painting, i'd forgotten what hard work it can be!
But the room looks lovely.
Ds2 has got a matt black painted brick chimney breast, with off white walls and a pale grey carpet... and we're going to do some graffiti on one wall tonight I can't wait

I've found a fab bright blue glass desk if anyone's looking for one for a dc's room?
ikea desk, they do it in loads of colours too.

Annianni · 29/07/2013 14:57

Mig your holiday sounds lovely.

Hope you have a nice time Sleep...

Hi to Santa, who've I missed?!

mignonette · 29/07/2013 14:59

Paris I flail away at my hair for the first few days then give in and plait/bun/let it be free to be what it wants to be...Grin

Shoulder length and longer hair can be plaited then flat ironed over the plaits at night to give a tousled look-use a hair oil especially for the beach/sun.

If it suits you do the slicked back hair oil look but I look like a square head.

Anni Loving your choices especially the neon pink JCrew sweater- would you mind if I maybe bought one too? I bought a River Island neon pink sweatshirt but have worn it out so much in the sun (and left it by the pool) that it has bleached away to a not neon..Sad....

Annianni · 29/07/2013 15:02

These arrived today from Italy and are as fabulous as I remembered them to be

They've taken almost a week to arrive, compared to my Shopbop order which was here within 2 days.

mignonette · 29/07/2013 15:04

Lovely- I saw a gorgeous Panama hat on NOP that had a neon yellow band.

Annianni · 29/07/2013 15:06

Not at all Mig, they are huge though... i've got the grey from The Outnet and you can see the sweater's measurements on there... which are very generous.

So i've ordered a medium to try in the pink... and i'm so not a medium! :o

Parisisalwaysagoodidea · 29/07/2013 15:07

Gorgeous buys Anni, I so love those trainers!

Mig Great beach hair tips, thanks. I def can't do slicked back, makes me look well common!

mignonette · 29/07/2013 15:11

Grin at paris.....I don't do that beach/holiday glamour thing- I like to pare things down and enjoy a respite from 'work' uniform and the pressures I place upon myself and of course from other places to look a certain 'way'. I like the scrubbed, bit of bright lipstick look for day and let my hair do its thing- a great scarf and a watch of the Hermes/scarf tying tutorials available online covers all hair excesses too. So chic, that scarf round the head thing in the sun, sunglasses, lipstick and a smile. Well, that's the idea...
