hello and welcome!

OP posts:

Oh my goodness, I seem to have found not one, but 2 bras that fit! Went on a mammoth bra shopping trip on Saturday, eventually ending up in bravissimo (as nowhere else sold anything that fitted). Tried on everything they had in stock in 28D and 28DD, most of which looked awful - really baggy and wrinkly with additional digging in at the top of the cup - lovely! Then found the bravissimo satine and the bravissimo mademoiselle in 28DD and goodness me, they fit! So I obviously had to buy them and I now have 2 proper bras!

I think in an ideal world, the cups would be a tad smaller while still having the same width and depth of wires, but without being tighter on the top, but I don't think that would be possible without having a bra tailored for me.

The question is then, given that the satine and mademoiselle fit, what else could I try that would give a similar fit? I tried on a few freya bras in 28D and DD in john lewis (lots available in the clearence just now) but I was finding the lace at the top of the cups either wrinkled or dug in.

Thank-you for all your help! I was so happy (and rather amazed) when I found the right bras!

Billycat · 24/06/2013 12:12

I always lurk, but have registered today as I am so excited to finally sort out my boobs!
My measurements are 32 and 41. I am currently breastfeeding so they are up and down a bit but generally rather floppy. Am wearing m&s nursing bra in 36DD that they fitted me for, but my boobs just sag in it. Pre bf they had me in 34C.
I have just ordered a panache 32H but not sure I have calculated right?
Thanks for your help in advance!

MadBusLady · 24/06/2013 12:21

I make that a 32G Billycat (there is a DD and FF to take into account, remember). Saying that, I am usually an F/FF but take a G in a couple of styles that come up small. If you can cancel/amend the order, maybe try some 32Gs and GGs as well.

MadBusLady · 24/06/2013 12:21

And welcome out of lurkerdom Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/06/2013 12:33

Pt, Did you try any of these half cups, which I think will be pretty similar

tanzania
rococa charm

There is a previous season called Demi Diva which came in black and red which you might want to watch for on Ebay

OneLittleLady · 24/06/2013 16:16

I'm still struggling with my bras. I'm wearing a 36E as I was originally intervened at and it's killing me Sad I'm bursting out of the top, the backs fastened on the tightest hooks but is still moving all over the place. My two 34F's are better but still not right. I just measured myself again and I'm 34 and 3/4s under bust (down from measuring 36) and 45 on the 90 degree dangle. Please help me Sad

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/06/2013 16:18

OK, at 34 and 45 the F should be quite a lot too small. Can you pop the 34F on, scoop like a crazy lady and see just how bad the overspill is. So scoop everything forward in to the cups, but dont then try to adjust or hide the bulges. I suspect you should have a lot of quad boob

To give you an idea - on those measurements I'd normally be saying 34GG/H

OneLittleLady · 24/06/2013 16:25

Just tried, I have terrible quadraboob! I did try a 34G in m&s a few weeks ago but the bra fitter said it was too big for me and would leave me sore?

Billycat · 24/06/2013 16:44

Excellent, thank you madbuslady I will try to change my order then!

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/06/2013 17:03

IGNORE ANYTHING M&S SAY

(and don't bother with their larger cup bras either. They is shit Grin)

I suspect you maybe hadn't done the scooping, so the bra appeared to have space in it at the front but you probably had a load of boob escaping out the back/arms. M&S seem to think if it's not obvious central quadboob it doesn't count. My fitter pointed to the breast tissue escaping out of my cups at the back and said that meant I needed a bigger back size.

Terrible quadraboob is what I expected. IME, one cup too small is actually pretty mild - it either escape under the arms a little or any really shows when you have a top on and breathe in. 2 cups too small is permanent quad but not massive - by the time you are getting in to terrible quad you probably do need to go up 3 cups or so.

Now...I'm curious how we got a 36E before as that would have suggested an overbust of around 42". Did you possibly do it standing up before hand? Reason I ask is that it might tell us something about your breast shape and what bras you need if you have a big discrepancy between the upright and dangling measures

OneLittleLady · 24/06/2013 17:08

I originally measured 36 underbust when I first came to the thread and 42 over bust. My back size has gone down through exercise but my overbust size seems to be increasing as my back size goes down Hmm My boobs seem to be really wide but the central gap between them seems very small (approx one index finger width) they just seem to stretch for miles underneath my armpits!

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/06/2013 17:13

It could be muscle growth underneath (happened to me back in the day when I actually went to the gym!)

I think your boobs are not hugely different to mine shapewise, and it is a bit of an awkward one which seems to have lots of tradeoffs. A lot depends on whether you have enough space to accomodate a plunge. My mini-gap continues quite low down so on me the top of the wires in the centre of a lot of plunges wind up poking me in the boobs. If this isn't the case for you, then plunges are likely to be your friend. Have you tried the Satine? I also quite like the Bravissimo Betsy Bow - it isn't low cut (opposite in fact) but it somehow sits comfortably and gives me a nice shape.

OneLittleLady · 24/06/2013 17:16

Plunges and t-shirt bras seem to be what I find fit best actually. The central gap widens slightly as it gets to the bottom of my boobs, they are just close together at the top. To be quite frank, I always thought I had saggy horrible spaniels ears as they always looked bottom heavy to me but as my back size has decreased, I can see they have weight in the top, if that makes any sense at all!

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/06/2013 17:36

Ok, in that case it definitely sounds like plungers etc might be the way to go. If you are starting too recognise top fullness then you need to look at bras which are quite an open design at the top. Some bras have embroidery, ribbon etc at the top of the cup which doesn't stretch and is more closed and created quad even if the bra is the right size.

I'd try the Satine (runs small in the cup so definitely try the H and possibly HH), Freya Deco/deco honey/ashlee only goes up to a GG but runs on the small side cup wise. Curvy kate plunges (tempt me/elegance/wild) also good and also run small. Bravissimo has some other own brand plunges - ring o roses/Dixie/starburst which are supposed to be very good and run more like a standard size (so try the GG and H)

www.bravissimo.com/products/lingerie/brands/bravissimo/#/1?group=plunge-bras

not a fan of panache plunges myself so can't recommend them. The wire shape is allllll wrong for my boobs, it's a disaster!

One other you might want to try once you are more size confident is Ewa Michalak. Their wires aren't hugely wide but I get away with it and their central gores are blissfully narrow. I like their S/SM styles and they are great for top heavyness. Thankfully you are in their standard size range for a lot more bras than me (I have to custom most) so you can return them. Just DO NOT lose any of the paperwork. These are my favourite bras by a mile

OneLittleLady · 24/06/2013 17:40

Will start looking for some new ones then. the back between my shoulder and armpit has rubbed raw on one side from my bras moving around and I can't even cover it because it's an awkward place and I'm allergic to plasters of all kinds Hmm

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/06/2013 18:00

That definitely doesn't sound right at all. You poor thing. This is why I get so p off with bad bra fitters tbh, because when they are wrong they often do actually hurt or do damage

HopHopHopSplash · 24/06/2013 19:47

Hi i got directed here from another thread. Im wearing a 34DD and measure 27 under breast and 35.5 at the 90 degree angle, what size does that sound like?
And do all shops label bras correctly or is there somewhere specific to look? Thanks!

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/06/2013 19:53

That sounds more like a 28FF/G to me :)

Most of the high street don't do 28s - your best bet if you have one is Bravissimo as they will fit you well too! In the absence of Brav, Debenhams often have 28s, as to John Lewis, or Leia.

In reality - they're pretty rare in shops although lots are manufactured so you will probably take up online bra shopping with a vengeance. Bravissimo again, brastop, Leia, Mycurvesandme, Clara Olivia, Debenhams, Amazon (weird I know)...lots of choice.

marriednotdead · 25/06/2013 08:06

PtCatalyst

Had a quick look, the Curvy Kate showgirl range would probably suit you, (Tease Me, Tempt Me, Thrill Me). There's some on Brastop for under a tenner so definitely worth a try Smile

TeWiSavesTheDay · 25/06/2013 11:25

Hello bra lovelies!

So, I have finally got out and had my heavily PG boobs sorted out - I knew I wanted to try bravissimo, so have been waiting to go to a city that has one. Smile

Disaster though, I forgot where it was, and accidently wandered into a Triumph store and started getting fitted before I realised I was in the wrong shop!

For reference, last excellently fitting bra I had was from Debenhams fitted when bf previous baby - a 28E. Triumph does not do any back smaller than a 32, and made me try 4 different bras at around 34C/32B. TBF. Some of them were alright - but I think because I don't have particularly large boobs and they were styled quite like sports bras... anyway.

Eventually managed to escape and get to bravissimo! They decided a 30DD fitted best at the moment and I bought one of these Juna Bra by Cleo which is absolutely wonderful!

Questions of the day are: what other styles might I like, and feeding bra recommendations? I forgot to ask when I was in bravissimo whether they do them or not.

PassTheTwiglets · 25/06/2013 11:50

Oh wonderful bra ladies, can some take a look at a photo I've uploaded to my profile (without laughing at my horrendous boobs :))and tell me if this bra fits me?! It is the most comfortable bra I have ever, ever had and, contrary to how I look in the photo, it gives me a really good shape so I reeeeeally want to keep it. But I'm not sure if it covers the top part of my boobs enough. It doesn't give that awful 'four boobs' look under a t-shirt, and the wires do lay flat against my chest, but there is still a bit of wobble at the top. Not sure if the photo is clear enough to see that? Thinking I maybe need to go up a cup size? This one is a 36HH, btw (the Bravissimo Melrose bra). Thank you!!

RubberBullets · 25/06/2013 12:00

Twiglets did you scoop?

PassTheTwiglets · 25/06/2013 12:13

I did scoop, yes. The fact that the wire is right against my chest - does that mean it IS the right cup size but is just the wrong style for me?

SorrelForbes · 25/06/2013 12:17

Hmmm, the fit looks ok to me but personally that wouldn't be enough of an uplifted shape iyswim? But then I like my GGs up near my chin Grin

PassTheTwiglets · 25/06/2013 13:07

Sorrel, it's odd - they really do look uplifted in person but look very droopy in the pics. I've never had as much uplift from a bra before - I think it may have been the way I was standing to take the pic... but now I'm going to have to try it on again for the millionth time to check!
