hello and welcome!

OP posts:
marriednotdead · 05/06/2013 22:41

Yup, Cherry Fling is a tight one!

Hopasholic · 05/06/2013 23:46

statistically I would run but I need a bra that fits first!

There's not a great deal of choice retailer wise for underwear where I live so if no joy with them, I'll come back for some on-line recommendations. Why are M&S so bad at fitting? Called in today and their choice was overwhelming!

EMUZ · 06/06/2013 00:16

Cherry Fling update
Worn it all day out and about, fell asleep for a bit in it. No rubs, no wires digging, no shoulder strap slipping. Just a bra to forget you are wearing Grin

EMUZ · 06/06/2013 00:17

Ooh married? Is the daisy chain any good? (I keep seeing it on eBay for under a tenner)

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/06/2013 04:24

m and s use the old method of fitting. I'm a 30hh and when I tested them for the blog they put me in a 36f. sorrel is a 30g and they went for a 36 or 38d. There were others too. so not minor differences but really really off the wall bad

fruitscone · 06/06/2013 07:39

I would very much like your bra help please as my bras never fit right:

I measure 31.5 round the back and 37.5 round the boobs. So am I right in thinking I should try a 32E?

If I were to size down (not sure if I am too close to the 32 to do that though??), would I try a 30F??

Does Debenhams do such sizes? I am abroad but will be close to a Debenhams in a fortnight. Incidentally does anyone know what European size this would translate to (totally confused by something I read about minus 4 or plus four in relation to Euro sizes.)

Thanks very much in advance.

HazleNutt · 06/06/2013 08:38

Fruitscone 32 is euro size 70 and 30 is 65. Cups depend on the brand, as some euro manufacturers skip the double sizes - instead od D, DD, E they would have D,E,F etc.

The issue with euro sizing - women are told that what they measure in cm is their bra size, so if you measure 75 cm underbust, you should buy size 75 bra. EUR size 75 is converted to UK size 34 on the bra labels. However, 75 cm is not 34 inches, it's only 29,5, so that person would not need a UK34 bra, they would need 30 or 28 (EUR 65 or 60). So basically, if you buy a bra based on the Euro fitting advice, you end up with the same result as if you added 4 inches in UK system.

marriednotdead · 06/06/2013 09:16

Yeah, it's good if you need a deeper cup. It will dig between your boobs if you don't which is probably why they discontinued it.

Saltire · 06/06/2013 09:30

Ok bra ladies, i ahve a question about t-shirt bras.

I measured myself as per instructions on here.. I was old 38g, (or possibly a 36G).
I got 2 underwired but soft cup bras in that size which fit really wel, plus, suprisingly a 38E which is also a good fit.
However I ike t-shirt bras for tighter tops but what a carry on I am having with them. They are fine when standing up. But if I lean forward (am a CM so do that alot) or sit down them the top half of the cup gapes quite noticably and I can fit 3 fingers width in between the fabric of bra and my skin. Then when Is tand up it looks fine again.I have tried adjsuting straps, fastening etc but no good. It looks really unsightly especially if it is a tight fitting t shirt as all you can see under it is thisbig lump like structure under my t-shirt where it is gaping. Can you help please? Grin

TryDrawing · 06/06/2013 12:21

I'm so glad to have found this thread.

I miscarried a couple of weeks ago and have been feeling awful about myself, so I thought some nice comfortable new bras would help cheer me up, as the ones I have (36C M&S) are really uncomfortable

Mothercare measured me as a 38D yesterday and "fitted" me into a bra which gaped at the front and bagged round the boobs I now have no idea why I bought it because it clearly doesn't fit. I think I was just too miserable to consider that they might be wrong.

My measurements are 34 and 40. So should I be more like a 34DD?

I like the look of the Amoralia second skin bra but I'll have to buy it online. Do I have a hope in hell of receiving something that fits?

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/06/2013 12:23

try a 34e rather than the dd. what were mothercare thinking!

TryDrawing · 06/06/2013 12:26

34e, gotcha. Thank you Thanks

ChunkyChicken · 06/06/2013 12:37

Trydrawing take the bra back!! I guess you don't feel in the mood for a fight about it but get your money back somehow - if you think they might be arsey, could a friend or family member take it back for you?

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/06/2013 13:44

oh god has anyone seen the new daily fail bra article ...anyone with free time fancy comment spamming it.

starts by saying most women wear too small a back ffs Angry Angry Angry Shock Angry Shock Angry Shock Angry Shock

sparkle12mar08 · 06/06/2013 13:47

I'm not even going to look, no sir-ee. Not good for my blood pressure!

SorrelForbes · 06/06/2013 14:32

WTF? Says who? That completely contradicts what we (and all the bloggers, proper fitters etc.) know to be true. Aggghhh. Worth writing in? I tweeted Camilla Long the other week after she said something in her Times column about a 32F being a monstrous size!

ChunkyChicken · 06/06/2013 14:40

I'd love to spam comment but I refuse to sign in and give them any of my details, even via FB.

SorrelForbes · 06/06/2013 14:49

I've just read that article. What a complete load of bollocks.

"It is thought that four in five women wear an ill-fitting bra because they tend to underestimate the width of their back, while overestimating their cup size."

But then contradicts itself by listing signs of a good fitting bra: "Should not dig in but fit comfortably next to the body with no bulging on either side. The back band should not ride up at the back. You should be able to get two fingers underneath at the back and one at the front middle."

So, avoid those problems with a smaller band size perhaps? Good grief. One bloody big ad for something called Optifit.

fruitscone · 06/06/2013 15:00

Thanks Hazell Nutt from the Euro sizing info. That helps!

Do my sizes look OK based on measurements taken?

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/06/2013 15:00

I am actually wonder if they have made a mistake. It just does not make sense

SorrelForbes · 06/06/2013 15:01

It's such a bad article. Depressing.

HazleNutt · 06/06/2013 15:01

"fit comfortably next to the body" and "able to get two fingers underneath" will not work simultaneously if the bra has any kind of elastic. What's the use of a bra if it just sits there, loosely, next to the body? It would offer no support.

SorrelForbes · 06/06/2013 15:01

On a happier note, my MIL has asked me to go bra shopping with her next week!

HazleNutt · 06/06/2013 15:02

fruit yes, try around those sizes.

SorrelForbes · 06/06/2013 15:07

Saltire I have the same problems with moulded T-short bras (e.g. Freya Deco) as they just don't adjust to your shape IYSWIM? I prefer a balconette style, Cleo June, Panache Idina, EM Biszkopty.
