My wedding dress cost about £250, but it was 24 Shock years ago! I still have it, in all its big, 80s meringue-ness. Of course it doesn't fit me anymore but I keep it for the sentimental value.

This thread and its precursors have been great for me. Thanks to you who brought my attention to Me & Em. I have this dress. Like Hopefully said, since I got it I have worn it every week. I remember Amber likening them to comfortable, slobbing around clothes, which are smart enough for work. That is so true! So much so that I am considering another one!

I have also freshened up my make up. I have been all eye make up and just a smear of lip gloss (which didn't even survive the journey to work). Now I am trying no eye shadow, but with grey eye liner and mascara with the dreaded "stronger lip" Wink.

I know, as do we all, that it is not earth-shattering and that there is so much more that is more important. But it gives me pleasure to feel that I am looking good and I enjoy reading about the pleasure that all the chat brings to you all.

Oh, and after dithering about the M&S snakeskin flats, coz they didn't fit properly, I ordered them in a couple of sizes. The 6s are just right, so I'll keep them!

I'll stop now as I am beginning to bore myself, hope I haven't bored you all Blush x

shopafrolic · 02/05/2013 21:42

Oh Topaz I get what you mean about the little things making you feel good. The make up change sounds fun, it's nice to change things. Unfortunately I'm so wedded to my liquid liner that I'm really struggling to back away, although I'll have to soon as my eyelids aren't as smooth at the lash line as they used to be!
Love the Me&em dress, if I was working I would definitely buy it. One for the future for me perhaps if the freelancing takes off!
You're right, there are bigger things going on, it's not earth shattering but it does bring a smile to my face sharing this stuff with you guys!
Glad the M&S flats worked, I'm wearing them lots - I think they'll work hard for me this season!

Hi shop, my DH is in the states this week too, but I wasn't as organised as you to give him a list. He does have a cosmetics and perfume order for duty free though.......

Drywhiteplease · 02/05/2013 22:02

Oh Topaz this isn't the mumsy thread you know...on this one it's ok to enjoy looking nice! Wink I really don't get those ladies over on that thread who say they really don't give a toss about their appearance....really? Confused Grey eyeliner is fab.

I had my wedding dress made by a dressmaker......I felt so bad about the money my parents were putting towards the wedding, and my mothers insistence that they paid for my dress too, that I gave the dressmaker a large chunk of the cost ( without telling my mother) and told her to invoice my mother the remaining amount as if it was the real cost of the dress! I bought my shoes from a sale rack at Debenhams, they were something like £10 and bright white. I dyed them ivory with tea at work! Figured if they looked terrible I old afford to loose £10!

shopafrolic · 02/05/2013 22:13

What grey eyeliners are you ladies using please? And what's your eye colour?

OP posts:
Drywhiteplease · 02/05/2013 22:32

Shop Grey/ pale blue eyes, I have No 7 " smoky sparkle eyeliner" or evenings which is powdery so you can smudge it, and for day I use a MAC ( now there's a surprise! Remember my suitcase full from US?) eyeshadow called " brun" ( which is more browny grey) with their fine, slanted brush.....softer than liquid eyeliner which I also use for evenings.

santamarianovella · 02/05/2013 22:50

i never tried grey eyeliner,i have brown hazel eyes will it suit me?

OneLittleLady · 02/05/2013 22:52

Could I get away with grey liner with blue/green eyes? I do like a slightly smoky look but I'm not sure if grey would suit

Topazandpearl · 02/05/2013 23:03

Oh I didn't mean to give the impression that I feel guilty about spending time ( and money!) on looking nice! Just that I feel that I have it in proportion with everything else! If that makes sense.

My eyes are hazel and the grey eye liner I have been using is an old Estee Lauder pencil that came as part of a gift pack. I think it is less harsh than black when there is no eye shadow to blend it with. Actually I am wrong to say that I am not wearing eye shadow. I have been using a flesh toned one (one of the colours that hadn't got used up from the same gift pack). It just evens the skin tone a bit more than just foundation.

santamarianovella · 02/05/2013 23:22

topaz i dont use shadows much but i always use bronzer on the lid, blend it with the eyeliner,it gives a very subtle smokey effect,im tempted to try a grey eyeliner now.

Annianni · 03/05/2013 06:20

My eyes are dark blue with grey flecks, and I have a couple of grey eye shadows that I use as liners.

Hopefully · 03/05/2013 06:45

Hi Topaz and welcome! I am always a fan of a lighter eye and a strong lip, I believe in lipstick Grin. I've stopped even wearing liner now for daytime, just mascara and brow definition. Partly due to eczema-prone skin, party due to personal preference.

Had a lovely dinner out with friends last night, wore white jeans rolled up a bit, suede ankle boots, bright green vest, khaki green slouchy sweater and zebra print dark olive scarf. Was nice to wear something summery and still not be too cold on cycle home afterwards.

shopafrolic · 03/05/2013 07:11

Morning Voguettes! It's not meant to be. The Madewell flats are OOS in my sizes. There may be a chance of reserving some in-store but DH itinerary is pretty full so I'm not going to hold my breath. :(

blondambition · 03/05/2013 07:41

Oh nooo Shop, that is frustrating Angry. My DH will be working in the US in early July so we could get some sent to his hotel if all else fails before then! Grin. I had a quick look on ebay and a few pairs in small sizes there so might be worth keeping an eye out there.

Also a lover of the Me & Em dresses. I have the capped sleeve in emerald green and it is so flattering and easy to wear. I did buy a size up though so it skims rather than clings but that's just personal preference.

Who was it admiring the Joseph leather leggings upthread? Just to say I have them in the dark olive and adore them. They are the softest leather, so comfy. Bought mine in the sale last year, almost 50% off and DH still practically fainted when he found out how much they were! Grin

Right off to do school organisation, back later!

Decameron · 03/05/2013 07:42

Shop, shame about the shoes. I have a very similar pointy leopard Stuart Weitzman pair from the Russell & Bromley sale last year, maybe have a look there. I have Topaz's Me & Em dress and wear it to the playground with flat sandals. Not the best venue for it, probably!
I have greeny-grey eyes and wear Chanel Gris-Scintillant. Also like Violet Smoke. Bobbi Brown eyeliners are great too.

Topaz, I know what you mean.

Drywhiteplease · 03/05/2013 07:59

I think I may need
this dress
In black would be perfect for my job. You lot are a bad influence actually I'm just a bad influence on myself, can't resist a dress

Can't give advice on eye colour and grey eyeliner, but I'd have thought it would suit most. For those of you (topaz) who don't want eye shadow during the day, I bought a " paint pot" by MAC in " painterly" which is a nude eye primer type cream, just acts as a foundation on your lids, helps hold eyeliner ( or shadow if you use it) and stops creasing. Quite a good product IMO

AmberNectarine · 03/05/2013 08:01

Morning all,

Well, the Clarks brogues arrived and are going straight back - they are so not white, and cream footwear has no place in my wardrobe. Will return in store and have a look at the black, but I think I probably won't exchange. I like my footwear to make a statement as you know!

I too am on the lookout for a nice maxi, Anni, as I failed to find what I wanted last year. Basically I want a black and white micro-stripe tank maxi, which sounds easy but really isn't. Maybe this will be the year....

Drywhiteplease · 03/05/2013 08:02

Btw I don't work for MAC Grin
Think I'm looking mumsy for work today Confused

Annianni · 03/05/2013 09:17

Right... who pinned something yesterday about life being too short for boring clothes?

You've made me spend more bloody money :o

I spent last night looking for trainers and found these beauties which I love but I need a US9 and can't find them anywhere [sob]
I've tried shopbop, farfetch etc.

Can anyone think of anywhere else?
Or has anyone seen them in a real life shop?

I also liked these silver ones and have just ordered them.
They may well be completely bonkers and will get sent straight back.
But I really like the look, with the crop jeans and grey top.

Also saw these in rose gold for £36, one pair left in my size.
I've stroked them several times In Selfridges but never tried them on.
They were still on HoF this morning so I ordered them.

Am I daft?
I don't know when I would wear them, although I had thought of wearing them with my new Goldsigns rolled up and a white tee, realistically am I going to wear them or was it the cheap price that lured me in?

Also ordered some black hav's, (which were on my list, so don't count) because my gold ones are looking a bit grim.

Annianni · 03/05/2013 09:19

Lovely dress Drywhite, and you'd wear it much more than the Coast one.
Have you ordered it?

Hopefully · 03/05/2013 09:48

Lesson of the day: if you are wearing neon orange trainers the rest of your outfit needs to be impeccable or you look crazy, rather than stylish. My intended slouchy top had a run in with a toddler's breakfast, so changed to another and it doesn't really work. Am banking on bright lipstick pulling it all together and making it more eccentric chic than mad lady.

Shame about the shoes Amber.

Love the sneakers anni.

shopafrolic · 03/05/2013 09:56

Wow Anni good haul! I love those Sam Edelman trainers - I'll keep my eyes peeled.
I like the look of the outfit with the Superga too - I guess it'll depend on how blingy they look IRL.
Was itching to wear my new maxi dress today but am going to save it until Bank Holiday Monday so am in Jigsaw khaki trousers, with Whistles green seam back tee and lace TOMS.

Morning lovely voguettes. What a glorious day.

Am outside in sunshine with new iPhone and silence except the tweeting birds (and odd plane and bee) with coffee and dc elsewhere.

Blond bravo on half price Joseph leggings, bet they're lovely.

Novice your dress and wedding sounds gorgeous.

Ok going back to look at links.

MarshaBrady · 03/05/2013 10:00

Anni lovely stuff, those slipper ones worth a try for £36. They could be really good.

QueenCadbury · 03/05/2013 10:00

Morning all. It's so nice to be back to the frivolity of mnv after a night of dd vomiting several times. She must have caught something in a&e but after 12 hours of not keeping anything down (and bringing it all up on me several times) she has managed a jammy dodger and seems happy enough. Bring on the diet coke to keep me awake.

shop I have blue eyes and wear grey/silver eyeliner. I've got one from bourjois, max factor and maybelline (all pencil). I did have a liquid max factor one but it was a bit pale and has now dried up.

anni love those silver supergra. As for the rise gold you may as well try them but don't just keep them as they're a bargain if they're not right.

amber that's crap. It can't be tht hard to advertise your clothes in the correct colour.

shop if the Madewell aren't meant to be it's because there's something better out there...
