QueenCadbury · 21/04/2013 09:21

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

ginger we still need to help you spend your birthday money and vouchers. Is it tops and jackets you're after?

Hello all! I just had my colours done at HoC today and am a Winter. I'm in total shock as my mum always told me I was an autumn and my wardrobe is going to need a serious overhaul.

We are going to need a new thread soon but wanted to mark my place while it all sinks in.

It is quite emotional, really, my whole self-image is going to need rethinking!

MissScatterbrain · 06/11/2013 17:53

Queen - couldn't find the emerald turtleneck online. Scarf looks great though.

Face - welcome Grin so what kind of winter are you then?

peasypeeler · 06/11/2013 19:37

I really empathise face I was under the misapprehension I was a warm autumn for years - I look fab in pine green and charcoal and totally shite in pooh brown :)

Glad you didn't like the lipsticks either QC I feel much better now :)

Bought a soft berry lipstick from Clarins - not sure what season it suits but looks great on me Grin

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 06/11/2013 19:43

I guess I'm a deep winter, although I can't remember exactly what description she gave - basically none of the pastels suit me at all!

Two star colours are navy, grey, indigo, lobelia, royal purple, electric blue, raspberry, and chinese blue.

One star colours are fuschia, carmine, and dark emerald.

I should avoid stone, acrid yellow and ice lemon - below waist only.

I've just spent my LIFE in khaki, green, teal, chocolate brown and orange, literally. This is going to take some getting used to.

peasypeeler · 06/11/2013 19:48

I lived in those too and thought I looked great as I had warm tones in my hair. After colouring it a bit more ashy I can see the winter colours look way better. I'm a sultry old bag at heart Grin

MissScatterbrain · 06/11/2013 19:48

Face - the two stars colours make you sound like a jewel winter.

Deep winters look best in the really dark colours of the palette (eg pine green, mole, charcoal, black etc).

peasypeeler · 06/11/2013 19:54

If it helps I'm a sultry and can't go near mole or stone. Two stars are charcoal/indigo/navy/fuchsia/damson/carmine/pine green

bertandmarble · 06/11/2013 19:57

Loving that scarf queen Cadbury

MissScatterbrain · 06/11/2013 20:10

peasy - that's interesting. I can't do stone either. Damson is a good one for me though.

peasypeeler · 06/11/2013 20:11

miss I think that's why it's so important to be analysed. There are so many different variations!

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 06/11/2013 20:40

Ah, yes, she did say I am mostly a jewel winter but with something else thrown in... it is all coming back now. Might email her actually...

Am busy looking at navy coats with grey scarf/hat/glove combos...and maybe the reverse as well if I'm feeling flush. Grin

I am suddenly seeing everything around me with new eyes, it is so weird. I'm a COOL colouring! Sooo weird....

bertandmarble · 06/11/2013 20:42

I am a jewel winter too and I love it!

mrskittyfantistico · 06/11/2013 21:02

Elizabeth- The fig is very pretty but very subtle, I'm quite pale, and a big scaredy cat, so I'm happy with it but it only slightly shows. I do have the plum as well, which is gorgeous, but I have to put balm on first then kind of dab a bit on with my finger and check in the mirror that I haven't gone over the lines!
Face & Easy- I was convinced I was autumn as well! I have quite pale olive colouring and can look very sallow in the wrong colours. I was mistaking this yellow overtone for the warmth of autumn (or maybe spring) I couldn't have been more off! It all makes perfect sense now but I needed to be talked through it all and 'shown' what all the colours were doing to be able to properly see it.
Has anyone else tried dying their old clothes? I've done a navy and a dark green batch so far and am planning a burlesque red one next. Not everything is spot on but, being skint, I'm having to just get as close as I can with minimum spend until I can slowly replace one item at a time. I pretty much have a workable wardrobe now but am going to search for a couple of jumpers and a coat in the charity shops. Oh, and I could do with a pair of ankle boots. OK, maybe I'm further off my goal than I think! Anyway, I can make do and then work on the one in, one out method. I finally feel that I at least have an idea of what I want and just a random collection of stuff that I look rubbish in!

mrskittyfantistico · 06/11/2013 21:06

Oh, I meant ' not just a random collection'

peasypeeler · 06/11/2013 21:13

mrskitty I'm pale olive too with dark eyes and hair. I'm struggling with the cooler tones on my face but I see how sallow it looks when warmed up. It's just all a bit new still. Loving my wardrobe colours, struggling with the face part!

QueenCadbury · 06/11/2013 21:24

Does anyone look good in acid yellow or stone?

face lovely 2 star colours. Can you see the difference it makes compared to your 'autumn' wardrobe.

I was a bit scared too initially as I never wore many bright colours and stuck to muted shades. I thought I was a summer. But now I embrace the bright colours and love them!

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 06/11/2013 22:28

I just emailed my consultant and she said I am a jewel winter with a couple of sultry winter shades thrown in. Still coming to terms with it! I'm a bit surprised how emotional I am finding it.

I've had a cull and there is a huge pile of stuff to go to my mum, who is a proper autumn. She will be happy about that, I'm sure. Grin I have an undecided pile, where I think it is okay for now or I just love it, and still quite a few things in my wardrobe since I'd always bought black and grey anyway, really.

I had not considered dying things but I think it is such a good idea. For me, dying things navy or black would be easy - such a dark colour, no problem. I will have a think about what I could dye.

Although most of my clothes are so old they need replacing, really...thankfully Christmas is just around the corner so maybe I'll get some vouchers...

KosherBacon · 07/11/2013 06:53

I like this ladies blogs for colours. If you look at her makeup suggestions, she recommends shades of grey and cool taupes for eyeshadows, rather than the really bright colours HoC recommend. Scroll down to find what she calls true, dark and bright winter. I like to use Mac Vex, Mac Satin Taupe and French Grey. There is also a TooFaced matte palette that has a nice grey and soft cool plum. I think neutral tones rather than the bright cool colours they recommend are better.

KosherBacon · 07/11/2013 08:37

www.eleablake.com this American site also sells makeup palettes by season and subseason.

ElizabethBathory · 07/11/2013 09:22

I've dyed loads of my old clothes with dylon machine dye. Didn't get on so well with the hand wash dye for wool but I don't think I gave it enough attention, think you're meant to stir constantly. I've dyed light grey jeans antique grey, a medium blue dress navy, freshened up indigo jeans with jeans blue, light brown dress burlesque red, orange jumper tulip redred. Really impressed with the dyes so far! Only things that didn't work were a grey pair of trousers which turned green with antique grey rather than dark grey, and a couple of Topshop things which had polyester stitching which didn't take the dye.

I have a box of ocean blue at home which I'm hoping will turn a light grey dress cobalt blue - fingers xed!

QueenCadbury · 07/11/2013 09:48

I've had mixed success with dying. I dyed a pale blue cardigan intense violet which was a success but a couple of other cardigans were patchy but that's because of the higher content of polyester. I dyed a muted blue jumper antique grey but that came out a greeny colour. If you're not going to wear anything anyway it's worth a go.

QC- I've linked to her too, in fact that makeup link I posted above is from her site. I really want to try out the Dior Collection lipstick she posts about.
