Calling all HOC winters.....

QueenCadbury · 21/04/2013 09:21

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

ginger are you on Pinterest? This is my sprinter board which gives good ideas for colour combining.

Me again! Forgot to show you all my new lovely green bag that I got for my birthday. It's called teal but it's more like light emerald. I love it!

QueenC, the board is lovely. I think I need to go through my wardrobe to get a proper idea. I have lots of clothes which I wear maybe 5-10% off. I have a toddler and am still carrying a bit of baby weight around so a lot of my stuff doesn't fit. Was 12, now 14-16. Especially don't like stomach area.
I think I have a smart/ casual look. Wouldn't wear trainers unless exercising, but have been living in mid to dark blue jeans, navy jeggings, black leggings with long tops/ tunic/ jumper. I like my grey & black blazers, but they are a bit snug at present.
Have lots of scarves, I wear most days.
Lack of nice tops.
My day to day bag is almost done.
Lack of coats/ jackets.

Still have almost £190 of birthday money to spend.

QueenCadbury · 04/11/2013 15:47

If you're near bristol we could get together for a sprinter shop?

GingerLemonTea · 04/11/2013 15:55

Feel frumpy at the moment. Also have various vouchers....
£55 for M&S
£40 for Oasis
£15 for Next
£15 for Debenhams
About £25 of Boots points

Have been growing out highlights so hair is two tone though it has got to a point where I think this looks ok. New hair is darker blonde after years of light blonde. Went and got myself a collarbone length cut. It feels mumsy, only because I don't have a lot of time to style it so growing it.
Feel like I need a big makeover! Getting colours done was meant to be the start of it! Now I don't buy anything! Did get the HoC lipsticks & blusher (fab) tho!

GingerLemonTea · 04/11/2013 15:56

Oh I'm miles away! Scotland, thanks though. Think that's part of the problem. Need a full day shopping without toddler.

ElizabethBathory · 04/11/2013 17:36

Hi all, nice to see a bit more activity on the thread! I havent bought anything for ages as go plenty at the beginning of the season. I started a Pinterest board of clothes I already have so I can see what goes together and to guilt me out of buying more!

The one thing I am on the lookout for is an electric or cobalt blue day dress. Anthropologie have a gorgeous one but I'd rather not spend that much.

Pufflemum · 04/11/2013 17:40

Hello, can I join? I've just been diagnosed as a Sultry Winter. I've got some new scary lipsticks that frighten my children now need to start on the wardrobe and buy colour to complement the grey and black that is already there.

peasypeeler · 04/11/2013 17:43

I'm a sultry winter too pufflemum and my new lipsticks are scaring me :(

It shouldn't be a bad thing but the HoC colours are SO heavily pigmented that I can't wear them them without a full face of make up. No good for everyday I'm afraid.

ElizabethBathory · 04/11/2013 17:48

Hi pufflemum! I'm a sultry winter too. Do you like the scary lipsticks? They're not compulsory if they're not your style. It took me flipping ages to like myself in strong lipstick and even now I don't wear them on a daily basis, I stick to sheerer colours, unless I'm in the mood to be dressy.

ElizabethBathory · 04/11/2013 17:50

X post peasy! Fwiw I didn't like the hoc lipsticks, the finish looked heavy on everyone, even the autumns I was with. The colours were good though.

ElizabethBathory · 04/11/2013 17:53

My one non-scary sultry winter lipstick recommendation is Mac Plumful. I always get compliments in it.

peasypeeler · 04/11/2013 17:55

Hi Elizabeth It's funny you should say they're not compulsory but I really thought I had to wear them because in theory they're 'my' colours so I'll ruin the look without them.

Thanks for the little peptalk - I'll stick them in the back of the cupboard for now and stop stressing over that one little thing. I love my wardrobe colours, just not the lipsticks! Thanks

peasypeeler · 04/11/2013 17:56

Will look into Mac Plumful! Thanks x

MissScatterbrain · 04/11/2013 18:01

Another Sultry Winter here and I love my scary lipsticks (it helps that I've been wearing these for years!).

Pufflemum · 04/11/2013 18:25

Thanks everyone. I actually love the lipsticks and have always worn similar shades in the evening, but wearing them in the day is a new thing. It really freaks my two boys out, it's weird how they react so strongly. I suppose they do make me look ' done up' whereas my general day look is pretty casual.

On another note, does anyone have any recommendations for royal blue, red or emerald scarves I can start to play with? I currently have two gorgeous brown coats that my consultant really recommended I ditch, but one of them was an expensive birthday present from Celtic Sheepskin so I can't not wear it again!

SorrelForbes · 04/11/2013 19:17

Can I join? I was 'done' on Friday and I'm a Jewell Winter. I'm very relieved as I already have quite a few dresses in those colours. Unearthed a lipstick today which I bought and never used. Chanel 105. Perfect.

MissScatterbrain · 04/11/2013 19:52

I get most of my scarves from ebay - I put in the colour I want in the search box. I also pick up quite a few on my travels.

ElizabethBathory · 04/11/2013 19:53

Peasy of course you won't ruin the look if you don't want to wear bright lippie! It all depends what your look is anyway - maybe if you were dressing up for the evening in a glam dress you might not look quite 'done' without a strong lipstick, but if your day to day look is subtler, sheer pinks and plums, tinted lip balms etc are lovely. And if you're wearing the right coloured clothes you'll look great and need less makeup anyway :)

mrskittyfantistico · 04/11/2013 22:06

I'm another sultry winter who's a big lipsticky scaredy cat. I've just got myself a burt's bees lip shimmer in 'fig' and I love it. It's on a dark winter recommendation list so thought I'd give it a go. As a lipbalm lover I like that I can stick it on without having to go and get a mirror and it just gives a little bit of colour. I'm sooo lazy....!

SorrelForbes · 05/11/2013 06:54

I've just bought this. Very wearable.

ElizabethBathory · 05/11/2013 08:58

MrsKitty I know what you mean, I don't have time most mornings to apply proper lipstick properly. I'd love it if I did but I need to get out the house quickly so stains and lip balms are easier! Will have to try Fig, looks great :)

ElizabethBathory · 05/11/2013 11:32

So, having said I'm not buying much atm, I've just gone and ordered:

This forest green jumper from Cos

This grey/white striped top from Cos

and this tuck stitch jumper in 'powerful' blue from Gap - they only had bigger ones left so hoping it looks good in an oversized way.

Yay! I am after slouchy-ish tops to wear with my black tube skirt, so hopefully one or two of these will do the job.

QueenCadbury · 06/11/2013 13:44

Hello newbies. Great to have so many winters around. For those of you scared of lip colour do try dabbing it on your lips and adding balm on the top. When I initially got home on my colours day proudly wearing my new red lippy, dh told me I looked like an old lady Grin. He kind of had a point. The lipstick was wearing me rather than the other way round. I now have a different red lippy which I feel more comfortable in but most days I use the revlon lip butters as they are more wearable.

Did a bit of shopping yesterday...
sequin top. This is divine. Gorgeous shade of navy which looks indigo/purple in some lights.

cobalt scarf. One of my best colours.

QueenCadbury · 06/11/2013 13:49

I also tried this scarf on in accesorise. It's gorgeous but the plain cobalt looked better on me rather than the patterns.

There's also an emerald turtleneck in gap that I bought (not online) and I'd be interested to see how others get on with it if they see it. It's meant to be one of my best colours but didn't really do a lot for me. Bought it to try in natural light but I think it must just be a touch too yellow and on the warm side to look stunning on me. Shame as I was really excited to find something emerald Grin
