Calling all HOC winters.....

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

I just dye mine at home every 4-6 weeks. Occasionally at the hairdresser's but I don't have time for it. Mine's short, though.

Re: makeup. The main change I made was to use grey rather than black eyeliner and shadow. And to completely give up on any reddish tones in my hair or bronze tan on my face.

I don't know what shades those are. I know from past experience that all attempts at going blonde, red, red-brown have not been my best choices. I suit plain dark best. However, there may well be winters who look good in those hues.

ElizabethBathory · 07/10/2013 19:14

Hi winters, just thought I'd let you know that my Crew Clothing Fair Isle jumper/dress thing arrived today (slow!) - it's lovely! Perfect wintery colours, cosy, just about long enough to be a mini dress with thick black tights, or a long jumper. Feels great quality. I went down a size as it looked really baggy on the model, so it's close fitting rather than slouchy. Success!

Have you made any decisions about what to wear with the dress QueenC? I think we're going to need a picture! I can't advise as am shite at accessories, but am good at nail polish advice if you need to find an exact shade...

Loopytiles · 07/10/2013 20:05

Dress envy queencadbury! Even poor styling couldn't ruin it!

micku5 · 08/10/2013 17:21

Hi, can I join this thread please. I had self diagnosed myself as an autumn, but after a HoC consultation today, I am a jewel winter. Have to say I am happy with that as I have blacks, purples and a couple of reds. Have to get rid of the orange and moss greens though Smile

I am after some help though...I'm going on holiday over half term and desperately need some summer clothes/tops. I know it's the wrong time but after having put on some weight my clothes no longer fit so need a couple of new things which I can also use in A/W season, maybe under jackets, cardis.

MissScatterbrain · 08/10/2013 18:55

Welcome Smile

The perfect season to shop for winter coloured clothes :) cobalt, bright pink, grey and emerald seem to be really big in the shops at the moment.

MissScatterbrain · 08/10/2013 18:56

Try Primark, New Look and H&M for vests and t-shirts - saw some at the weekend.

micku5 · 08/10/2013 19:38

Thank you. I managed to get a cobalt blue vest in Forever 21. Not a colour a ever thought I would wear but really brightens up my face Grin

NigellasGuest · 08/10/2013 20:08

Hi, I recently went for a HOC style consultation in London - the consultant was fantastic and apparently I'm a dramatic gamine. Although it wasn't a colour consultation, she did tell me I'm a winter, and I bought 3 HOC lipsticks from her (a red and two pinks) which are not the shade I have previously EVER worn but she really opened my eyes to them! I always thought I couldn't wear bright lipsticks because my lips aren't particularly full - but they do actually look good.

Can someone tell me which are the sub-sections of winter? Sultry and deep are two of the subsections I have managed to discern by reading the thread but how many more are there? Will it be impossible for me to work out which one I am without going for a full-on colour consultation?

MissScatterbrain · 08/10/2013 20:16

Other sub seasons for winter include jewel, sprinter and burnished - there might be a few more though.

QueenCadbury · 08/10/2013 21:31

Bs! I just lost a long post that I was in the middle of! Welcome newbies. The subseasons all seem to vary. There's bright, sprinter, cool true, sultry' burnished, dark, jewel. All depends what you read Grin. As a sprinter, I sit on the edge of spring and suit the brighter colours best especially the blues and greens.

Right I'm going to post this and then do all my links separately so that I don't lose it all again!

I bought these boots from clarks which are a fairly good match for the mole swatch.

M&s have some really great coloured shoes in at the moment. I tried on red, cobalt, purple and pink.

QueenCadbury · 08/10/2013 21:33

these are the ones that I bought to go with my dress.

QueenCadbury · 08/10/2013 21:34

Also bought this fuschia cardigan. Buttons are naff but easily changed.

elizabeth I'm hoping to get a manicure done and my salon uses opi. Any ideas of a good winter red in their range?

NewNameforNewTerm · 08/10/2013 21:50

Nice buys QC. I've collected a few of those M&S cardis since being diagnosed as a winter. I swapped the buttons on two of them for some I bought in J Lewis. Diamanté for one, pearls for the other. I get so many complements for them and everyone thinks they were really pricy!

ElizabethBathory · 08/10/2013 22:21

If you want a bright but classy true, blue-based red, vodka& caviar is gorgeous. Quarter of a cent-cherry is a darker, blue-based cherry red. Dutch tulips is lighter, brighter and pink leaning. Those are the ones I have, but there are so so many opi reds the salon might only have the latest shades. Would be surprised if they don't have vodka & caviar though, it's a classic.

MissScatterbrain · 09/10/2013 08:55

Queen - love the boots & gorgeous shoes.

Have you decided yet re jewellery for the VW dress?

QueenCadbury · 09/10/2013 09:30

miss probably no necklace as everyon's said that I don't need one. I have been looking for a statement bracelet but haven't found anything I like yet. Otherwise I have loads of lovely bracelets so will just pile them all on my wrist!

NigellasGuest · 09/10/2013 13:52

I have blue grey eyes and cool skin tone but feel I am a sultry winter because blacks, charcoals, greys etc are great (and they sound boring but I love them and was so happy to find out black is good for me, despite everyone always saying how boring it is)!

I don't look that "sultry" - I guess it's just a name though!

I love the idea of changing buttons on cardigans, what a brilliant idea Smile

LCHammer · 10/10/2013 17:19

Just catching up. Great links, though I couldn't see the shoes you eventually bought, QC.

Yesterday I had the first great compliment about my colours. Someone told me how nicely my scarf (purple) and lipstick (fuschia) looked. Admittedly, a sales rep, so used to being nice to people but I don't care. She didn't comment on my bag or shoes but on my colours! And someone else today on my earrings (fuschia) going well with my dress and top (burgundy and fuschia). It's working!

I'm busy with the new job and losing weight so not much buying going on here. Another dress (from French Connection, black with shapes of horses on it in off-white) is going back. It's just uninspiring, unfortunately.

LCHammer · 10/10/2013 17:23

Nigella - ill PM you to ask about the style day in London.

bertandmarble · 10/10/2013 17:30

I am a jewel winter!! And a romantic natural. Woo hoo!
