Calling all HOC winters.....

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

Just to report back that Revlon lip butters arrived - reaspberry pie and red velvet - and I really like them. Great if like me you are a bit wary of lipstick!!

Lovely links. Those jaeger coats are nice though I am also someone with lots and lots of coats, and I always wear the same ones!

KosherBacon · 02/10/2013 16:18

I need a new coat. I might have to wait and get one at the end of the sales for next year though. The compromises I've had to make for going part time since having DS.

Kahu · 02/10/2013 22:12

Hello all. I've been lurking for ages and making lots of purchases based on recommendation in this thread.

Elizabeth I've had my eye on that dress for a while. I love it but it's very similar to a summer dress I have so I thought I'd better not indulge. Very tempted though. I would wear it with grey or plum opaques. I just got some nice plum opaques from Gap & I spotted some online in Next but not sure what the quality is like on those ones.

Mad I've got the damson Gap sweatshirt - it's a great colour but quite big fitting I found, I feel a bit too sloppy in it. But lovely & cosy so I've been waering on chilly comfy days at home.

I also recently got a pine green cable knit sweater from H&M. It's acrylic which I wasn't keen on but the colour & fit are lovely. They also had a nice navy one. Think it's one but the pictures / colours on the website look a bit different to what I saw in store.

Stepped it is so hard to find dark coloured hair dye with cool tones. I have very dark brown hair & was having a really hard time covering the grey especially as I wanted to stay close to my natural colour with no red tones. I am now using Daniel Field Watercolours in Oak. Love it - covers the grey, my hair is in great condition & I have natural looking tones (probably the covered grey!) rather than a blocky dark colour & best of all no redness. Worth a try?

SteppedOnaFrog · 02/10/2013 22:21

Thanks Kahu x

KosherBacon · 03/10/2013 07:08

Another recommendation for Aveda Black Malva shampoo. I've just used it for the first time and there has been a definite dampening down of the red tones in my hair.

The problem with dying hair is that most dyed have peroxide in to make it stick to your hair. Once the dye fades out you are left with hair that has been lightened by the peroxide. Brown hair when it is lightened goes from brown to red to orange to tells before eventually being bleached.

Kahu, not that I want to tempt you further, but the Oasis denim dress arrived yesterday and it's lovely :) Feels really good quality and the zip at the back is copper rather than gold, which looks lovely. It's also a work-suitable length at only a couple of inches above the knee. Beware it comes up quite small so size up if you're between sizes.

And can I recommend NYX matte lipstick in Bloody Mary? It's a great half pink/half red shade, love it.

ElizabethBathory · 03/10/2013 10:54

Kahu just realised that message will be pointless if you've already tried the dress on in the shop Grin Love the idea of plum opaques with it.

QueenCadbury · 03/10/2013 13:35

stepped have you removed your photos? I can't see them.

I think a bright winter is the same as a sprinter winter. It means that we sit on the edge of winter and spring. So my colouring is pretty neutral with cool undertones. Despite being the same season I reckon that me and elizabeth are polar opposites as she suits all the sultry colours whereas I need bright. A burgundy lipstick or too dark a red would not look that great on me. So I'm wondering stepped whether pink is just not your colour even if you are a winter iyswim.

NewNameforNewTerm · 03/10/2013 19:12

So what's the difference between a bright winter, a sprinter winter and a jewel winter? I'm very confused Confused

MissScatterbrain · 03/10/2013 19:25

All winters can wear the vast majority of the colours in their seasons and at House of Colour each colour will have been rated for each person and sub seasons are based on the colours that have been rated as your 100% double starred colours.

Jewel winters look best in all the jewel colours e.g emerald, scarlet, royal purple etc.

Sprinter winters as stated by Queen look best in the brighter colours of the spectrum - the opposite of sultry winters who look best in the darker colours such as charcoal, burgundy, mole, black and indigo.

KosherBacon · 03/10/2013 20:49

I feel the need for more Lip Butters. Will you recommend me some more winter friendly shades.

Interesting discussion on different winter families. I lean more towards the deep winter/ sultry winter family but look like a dog in deep lipsticks. I do need something brighter on my face.

As for the shopping I did online over the weekend.

Crew skirt I posted- it's going back. It's a pencil shape and with my curves I definitely need A line. Colour wise the navy and pink are spot on winter colours. The rest of the design isn't winter but it's probably less than 5% other colours so it's fine.

Woolovers- the blueberry and rich rose are spot on winter colours. I think I'm going to keep them. The navy cable cardie is going back as it is just too boxy in shape.

BeattieBow · 03/10/2013 20:56

im a sultry winter, but among my best colours were ice pink, ice blue and ice lilac. I also have the usual grey, black, navy and white as well as the purples, raspberry, pinks and cobalt type colours.

None of the jewel colours unfortunately. iirc you're blond aren't you QueenC? I'm olive skinned and dark haired.

I am still finding it difficult to wear brighter colours (apart from accessories or lippy), but have added quite a lot of lilac.

QueenCadbury · 03/10/2013 21:29

Yes, I'm blonde. I can wear black and ice blue and hyacinth but mole, burgundy, stone and the other ice colours aren't great.

Right then fellow winters, I'm after your ideas on how you would style this dress. It's for my 40th, no coat/jacket or bag needed. I'm after your ideas for shoes, tights/bare legs, jewellery, nails, make up. Thanks Grin

OP posts:
MissScatterbrain · 06/10/2013 08:33

For me personally, I would wear it with no necklace (cos of the ruching, don't really want to make it too fussy), a fab pair of earrings (probably jewel coloured), elegant heels (black or same colour as earrings - cobalt perhaps?), bare legs (my legs are still lightly tanned otherwise it would be very sheer dark grey/black tights), nails to go with lipstick (shocking pink, red or wine).

It depends on your style preferences really - it is such an amazing dress that whatever you do with it is sure to look good!

MissScatterbrain · 06/10/2013 08:34

Oh yes and a statement bracelet.

NewNameforNewTerm · 06/10/2013 10:00

Stunning dress QC. My vote is bare legs, red lips and red nails with the statement silver/black bracelet.

LCHammer · 06/10/2013 14:19

Beautiful dress. I'd go simple silver necklace, red lipstick, red nails, black shoes.

LCHammer · 06/10/2013 14:19

Oh, you're blonde. Than maybe more colour.

What do you mean, Fidelia? Do you meant a colours wallet?

My colours wallet is just winter, the fine tuning for which winter was done during the consultation. It doesn't give makeup colours, however when I had my analysis I had some makeup up on by the consultant and made a note of the blusher and lipstick colours.

LCHammer · 06/10/2013 20:31

You can get an idea if you look on the Kettlewell clothing website regarding shades, with the limitations of seeing them on a screen. A replacement wallet is 60 odd quid but you'd really need to know which are your best colours amongst them and which kept best for scarves, skirts, away from face etc.
