QueenCadbury · 21/04/2013 09:21

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

Okay- thank-you for the honest input. I'm pretty sure I am -only I look horrible in grey and most pink. Cannot wear pink lipstick at all, but red is great. I do well in contrast, black, white navy and red. Love stripes but no other patterns and love block colours. Icy colours however are a no-no.

Purples and plums are good as is British racing Green.

I look shocking in beige and mustard and typical autumn tones. So I am pretty sure I'm a cool of some description.

ElizabethBathory · 29/09/2013 21:50

Just ordered this Oasis denim dress after seeing it on Danse de Lunes tumblr page...whoops! Not sure what tights it would go with though? Too chilly for bare legs but black would look a bit dark wouldn't it? I really like the back of it with the visible zip. Am hoping she's taller than me so it's not too short for work.

SteppedOnaFrog · 29/09/2013 21:53

Elizabeth my skin is NW20 according to MAC (they reverse it so neutral cool and pale). My eyes are grey/green/blue with a dark navy ring around them. If you click on the photo if comes up larger on my computer and may give you a better idea.

I am high contrast for sure without make-up. I have a naturally dark lip and need a lot of colour or I look washed out.

MissScatterbrain · 29/09/2013 21:53

Love the dress EB Smile try black tights to see how it looks. Alternative colours would include grey and burgundy.

SteppedOnaFrog · 29/09/2013 21:55

I love the colour of that dress.

MissScatterbrain · 29/09/2013 21:57

Practicality - what colour is your hair naturally? its hard to tell from photos but you look quite warm toned.

SteppedOnaFrog · 29/09/2013 22:00

Hair was very dark chestnut but now turning snowy white.

MissScatterbrain · 29/09/2013 22:15

You could be a winter, the warm red dye is very warm for a winter though - which pinks have you tried that you didn't like?

MissScatterbrain · 29/09/2013 22:17

And the red hair dye may be why pink looks awful on you. Fushcia, shocking pink and raspberry are classic winter pinks.

SteppedOnaFrog · 29/09/2013 22:30

I can get away with raspberry red but not the others. Pink lipsticks look grim unless they are a red with a pink cast like a ruby red.
I look dreadful in Cherries in the Snow for instance and Revlon raspberry pie pulls too pink.
The dye is neutral cool brown but they do oxidise.

ElizabethBathory · 29/09/2013 23:00

I think the photo and shadows are making you look less pale then, practicality. Self/photo diagnosis is v hard. But you seem to know what colours suit you anyway! The hair dye might be causing problems/confusion with what colours work, I've never seen a brown dye that looks truly cool or ash toned. Have you tried Aveda Black Malva conditioner? It would cool the colour right down.

KosherBacon · 30/09/2013 06:42

It's really difficult to tell. I'm a MAC NC20 (rather than an NW) however I am definitely neutral/ olive than warm.

I found these two blogs on winter lipsticks

QueenCadbury · 30/09/2013 07:54

eliz I love that dress but I have an irrational fear of exposed zips.

mrsr if you're happy wearing the shirt with a scarf then go for it. Otherwise if not you may as well dye it and if it turns out rubbish you've lost nothing.

Nipped into gap at the weekend. Haven't got time to link now but there was a damson sweatshirt which I may be tempted by and also some damson patterned scarves.

Hi all & welcome to the newbies.

I didn't find anything on Crew yesterday as the logo was too visible, tiny as it is. Instead, I've bought a coat, jacket, top and 2 dresses from HOF. They should be here in a day or so. However, my new workplace (went in today for a few hours, starting in ernest tomorrow) is freezing! So I may have to rethink it all. I won't be wafting in wearing diaphanous clothes. I need woollens.

I have always used strong reds and fuschias for lipstick, I feel v comfortable with colour. I'm on the lookout for variety.

I can't comment on the links as they aren't working on my mobile.

ifitsnotanarse · 30/09/2013 22:19

May I join in?

I'm a self diagnosed cool clear winter and am slowly clearing out and replacing my wardrobe. Fortunately I already have lots of grey and purple. I bought this on Saturday and am so pleased. Especially as it was on sale. Have paired it with a wide black belt, black cardigan & tights, and black stilleto suede-effect ruched boots that I bought seven years ago and wore about three times. Also bought this.

Have also been looking at my shape and am a short hourglass. So everything needs to be fitting. Slightly devastated that I will never do boho. But at least I know what colour to wear. Grin

ElizabethBathory · 01/10/2013 11:44

Great dresses ifitsnotanarse!

Are any Winters in need of a new winter coat? Just seen these Jaeger ones on another thread in bright red and electric blue. I love them! Unfortunately I don't need a new winter coat, and my current on is v similar but navy otherwise I might be tempted.

MissScatterbrain · 01/10/2013 11:47

Gorgeous coats but I prefer to have my bum covered when its cold Grin

LCHammer · 02/10/2013 09:14

I like the dresses and coats (not the coat price!). I'm not buying anything more online until a) I get paid (will be first time in three months), b) I know what size I am. I've been on the LC diet and I have to return all my recent order from HOF as size 14 is too big. Lets see how my resolve holds.

Ifit I'm not a boho either. The floaty, straggly style in browns and greens really doesn't suit me. I look messy.

KosherBacon · 02/10/2013 09:43

LCHammer- what is the LC diet?

I am the least boho person ever. I am debating doing the style day but really am not sure.

SteppedOnaFrog · 02/10/2013 09:58

I am going to grow in my natural grey again as the pure white will not cover with dye even when peroxide is applied first. Anyway I was looking back to where I cut my hair back to natural and it is very cool in tone ( dark taupe ash brown with white streaks) and there isn't anything on the market that doesn't either warm it up or turn it jet black. I have tried summer colours but they look wishy- washy and the lipsticks make me look anaemic. I am a winter of some sort for sure I think- possibly a bright. One of my best lipsticks is ruby star by Maybelline and it matches 12 blueprints make-up shade guide for bright winter.I just cannot pull off Cherries in the Snow and vivid pink lipsticks.

Is it possible to be the equivalent of a Blue Spring but on the Bright Winter side?

MissScatterbrain · 02/10/2013 10:11

I think your skin will look better with white/grey hair. I know some people use ash blonde when their hair is no longer able to take dark dyes.

Have you tried covering your hair with a white scarf and trying on a vivid pink lipstick? Queen Cadbury on here is a bright winter (or is that not the same as a sprinter winter?) so she may have some tips.

LCHammer · 02/10/2013 10:21

LC = low carb. There's a thread on here about it. I started 3 weeks ago, lost about 2 kg.

SteppedOnaFrog · 02/10/2013 10:22

Have popped a pic on profile showing natural hair when I cut all the dye off. You will probably have to enlarge it to see it properly but that is beyond my skills!!!

I have tried blonde and it looks really awful- it always looks too beige or yellow.

KosherBacon · 02/10/2013 10:24

Thats excellent work LCHammer. I just need to eat less! I made DS blueberry pancakes for breakfast with the intention of freezing the left overs. That would be the leftovers that are now all in my tummy. Nom nom nom.

Stepped on a frog- my HoC consultant suggested hair colours with an ash or violet undertone, rather than golden or caramel as the cool tones look better with winter skintones.

SteppedOnaFrog · 02/10/2013 10:25

Thanks for your suggestions x
