Calling all HOC winters.....

QueenCadbury · 21/04/2013 09:21

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

I can report back that the green ted baker fur is even lusher irl. I didn't dare try it on as I could hardly stop stroking it on the hanger Grin

Bought this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Boden-Blue-Ponte-Cotton-Top-UK-10-/271286487227?pt=UK_Women_s_Tops_Shirts&hash=item3f29ef48bb

Its a really nice colour more purply blue than it looks. Comfortable and quite thick so it skims over my muffin top. Smart enough for work but would also work with skinnies

pudtat · 28/09/2013 17:14

Thanks EB- ordered today! Fx it fits...

KosherBacon · 28/09/2013 21:26

I've ordered the skirt. I hope I like it. Now to make a decision about stuff on Woolovers or some other blooming knitwear.

LCHammer · 29/09/2013 10:57

Argh, a Sunday on my hands and more links to go through. I'll report back :)

KosherBacon · 29/09/2013 14:25

LCHammer tell us what you get!

KosherBacon · 29/09/2013 15:06

Woolovers order placed-
This in blueberry
This in rich rose
This in navy
I am sure I will hate it all and send it all back (whilst swearing about them not doing free returns so I will have to use Hermes to keep the cost down). I went for the lambswool cable as I thought it would keep me a bit warmer in winter.

practicality · 29/09/2013 15:17

The blueberry is a wonderful colour for winters as is the navy. The Rose one is a very coral Rose and I think would just about suit a clear winter or clear spring.

The quality of the cashmere merino blend is excellent.

justkeeponsmiling · 29/09/2013 15:20

Hi all :)

I just posted in the main health and beauty thread and was redirected to you lovely ladies here Grin
I need some help...
I've recently tried to do my colours online and have diagnosed(?) myself as being a clear winter - dark brown hair, quite fair skinned and light green-blue eyes. I've started to sort out my wardrobe accordingly (lots of cool jewel colours) but this is a project I'll have to do gradually as I can't afford to buy loads of new clothes in one go :( So I'm just trying to keep my colours in mind for future purchases for now (though I'm not immune averse to affordable suggestions :) )
What I really would love is some make up suggestions. I bought some new Rimmel eye-shaddow last week in medium and dark grey and it looks nice on (I think!) but it would be nice to have some more suggestions for different shades.
I'm also desperate for some lipstick suggestions. I've never worn lippy before and am totally overwhelmed by the variety in the shops. After hours of deliberation I finally bought Revlon just bitten Lip stain in "passion", as somehow I find a stain less intimidating than a lipstick... I quite like it; it's very PINK! and startles me a bit every time I look in the mirror, but in a good way iyswim.
I would love some suggestions for different shades, both more muted ones that I could maybe wear for work (I work in uniform and want to look nice but not too made-up, iyswim) and some more eye-catching ones that I could wear when going out once I'm brave enough
Thank you :)

SunnyUpNorth · 29/09/2013 19:26

Ooh Elizabeth glad you liked the suggestion, hope it is nice in real life.

I have a fair bit of stuff from Crew. I usually find their quality and fit really good. I had a few disappointing tshirt dresses from them last summer which I had to send back. Just a bit shapeless. But their winter wear is always lovely. My Dh loves their jumpers too.

Welcome justkeeponsmiling. I'm not great with make up yet for Winters, still finding my feet with clothes! But I think in the first few pages of this thread there are quite alot of good make up suggestions. I think some of the links to other Colour websites also have lists on them for the different seasons. I will see if I can find anything and report back.

I am trying to stick to greys and blue toned pinks at the moment. Fairly easy and not too scary!

MrsRadicchio · 29/09/2013 20:03

Kosher let us know how the woolovers order is. I really like this royal blue colour and want to get something in it. Also the blueberry.

Although having looked at royal blue online just now I am not sure it is the right colour anymore - it looks a bit too bright Confused

Just I am a bit like Sunny in that I am still getting my head round clothes colours and not a big make up wearer so not able to be v helpful. A few pages back the other posters helpfully listed what lipsticks they wear. A few Mac ones mentioned (Russian red the only one I can remember) and also revlon lip butters. They are easy to wear if you are not a lipstick person: glossy, easy to apply but not terribly long lasting. I have berry smoothie which is a v natural shade and have just ordered (on this thread's recommendation) red velvet and raspberry pie (-? may have that wrong). Will report back.

A quick question to you all - I have a denim shirt like this. Should I dye it indigo which will suit me better but lose the denim shirt effect, or just wear as is (I do like it) with a ** scarf / necklace??

QueenC have you considered that fur wrap for your VW dress? You did pin a look with emerald accessories I think?

justkeeponsmiling · 29/09/2013 20:05

Thanks sunny , just like me then! I'll follow your suggestion and have a look at the rest of the thread

justkeeponsmiling · 29/09/2013 20:08

Thanks mrs I've ordered the two lip butters too! They didn't look too scary Grin

KosherBacon · 29/09/2013 20:10

MrsRaddicchio that blue looks great. The unisex stuff is meant to be quite boxy which is why I passed on it.

QueenCadbury · 29/09/2013 20:20

Annoyingly the pictures from woolovers website don't want to open for me today so I can't see the colours. I'm a bit Confused about anything being unisex. Won't the sleeves be too long?

mrsr yes, I'd considered the fur but after spending £300 on the dress I can't justify spending another £200 when the party is in a hotel where I'm staying so have no need for a jacket. I'd definitely consider it if I had to travel though but I'd be stroking myself all night Grin.

I'm definitely a convert to the bright lip now. I have revlon lip butter berry smoothie but I can see now that it doesn't look as good as colour.

Pictures wouldn't load for me either QC, but when you hover your cursor over the size guide they appear.

Quite a few years ago I bought a basic cardigan from woolovers in rich rose. I get lots of compliments and it does match my wallet colour really well, but it may have changed colour as it has been washed hundreds of times.

KosherBacon · 29/09/2013 20:33

NewNameforNewTerm- which colour did the rich rose match up with on the swatch book?

NewNameforNewTerm · 29/09/2013 20:37

I don't have my booklet with the names to hand, but it is colour 15.

KosherBacon · 29/09/2013 20:42

Fab! The swatch book is sat in my lap and 15 is a 100% or 75% *, so let's hope the cut is good.

NewNameforNewTerm · 29/09/2013 20:56

I bought two jumpers and a cardigan from them.

similar to this
this and
this
It may be the styles but they are not particularly fitted, but that really suits me and I bought true to my dress size.

KosherBacon · 29/09/2013 21:14

MrsR- re dying the shirt. I've never seen chambray dyed before. I'm sure the colour will take but I'm not sure about the style. Mind, I'm not a fan of bright coloured denim either, so I'm no good!

Practicality. It's impossible to tell from that picture. The analysis is done by draping loads of fabrics over you and seeing how they affect your skins appearance and undertones. Warm colours make me look washed out and give less definition to my face. Contrary to lots of online quizzes it's not by hair and eye colour. There are some blonde winters on here!

ElizabethBathory · 29/09/2013 21:37

MrsR if you dye the shirt bear in mind that any stitching on it might be polyester (even if it says 100% cotton on the label, as I've found to my cost!) so won't dye. I've dyed jeans from that colour to indigo using dylon jeans blue and they came out really well.

ElizabethBathory · 29/09/2013 21:43

practicality in that picture your skin and hair look quite warm toned to me. You do have high contrast in your features (though that could be down to make up). Are your eyes dark blue? It's hard to tell from the pic. Sorry, least helpful post ever.
