Calling all HOC winters.....

QueenCadbury · 21/04/2013 09:21

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

I've found these:
pewter
black
blue

The black and blue are my preferred styles - if only they came in grey...

Kezztrel · 04/09/2013 11:59

Tbh I don't worry too much about the colour of bags and footwear. My favourite everyday bag is a tan satchel. I wear a lot of silver, navy and black shoes but my winter fur-lined knee high boots are dark brown, which I prefer to black with jeans and jumpers for an autumnal look. And I'm not buying new ones as they're still going strong after 8 years and I love them! I like the idea of grey boots though.

QueenCadbury · 04/09/2013 12:50

I never had tan/brown shoes/bags anyway so mine are mainly black although I'm starting to move away to other neutral shades. I had a lovely pair of pewter ballet flats which have just died but I've replaced them with grey. I've got black and grey boots for winter but would also like navy. I've got silver, black and navy converse. All summer I wore white saltwater sandals. Bag wise I'm introducing colour and have bought red and pink.

I had thought black suited me... also had assumed I was winter!! Maybe not after all!

I've added a pic of me in black but I do hear you- you need to see in real life.

MadAboutHotChoc · 04/09/2013 13:17

Kezz - being a sultry winter, you probably get away with dark brown boots.

Queen - white sandals sound great.

night - can't see your latest pic, is it set to public?

QueenCadbury · 04/09/2013 14:23

night as you know it's so difficult to tell. Black does seem to look ok in the photo but I know of a spring who's on the edge of winter can also get away with black. I'm blonde and fairly neutral colouring with just a hint of coolness yet I'm definitely a winter. All online quiz' put me as a summer because of my hair.

I think you're right Mad, I've had a few very dark brown clothes in the past that haven't looked too bad.

Nightcircus you look nice in the black tshirt but I don't think its doing that much for you, iyswim, I think you just look nice anyway irrespective of the colour. I want you to have your colours done now so we can see if we're right :)

KosherBacon · 04/09/2013 20:20

I've just got back from Gap. Seeing as though everything sells out when they have a 30% off, I thought I would but now and take it back and buy it back using the code. Naughty, I know, but I wanted to get stuff in my size.
I've bought this in grey and the bright blue and this but in burgundy and navy

Kezztrel · 04/09/2013 21:03

Love the stripy merino Kosher. Did you see whether the ones with white stripes were actually white or are they cream?

QueenCadbury · 04/09/2013 21:07

Grin at kosher. I have a basket full that I'm ready to check out with my code when dd gets me up in the morning!

Nice links!

I had asked about boots and bags. I have dark brown boots and didn't want to buy new ones but then I'm thinking they won't really go with fuschia or purple or grey. I can't fit skinny jeans in them (or rather the rest of me can't fit into skinny jeans).

I received the Hobbs coat today. Beautiful colour, gorgeous pinky raspberry. But it's too rough to touch. It's 100% wool, incredibly light and fab. A bit big (size 14, I'm on a diet but only lost 2 lbs in a week) which I can overlook. The DDs are desperate for me to keep it as they love the colour but DH agrees that I should return it if I don't like the feel. He usually encourages me to keep things (and he doesn't even know the price of this one yet, so not biased).

KosherBacon · 04/09/2013 21:21

Kezztrel- this was the only striped merino in the car- they were hidden on a bottom shelf, away from all the merino.

Slightly aside it's all 100% merino and says hand wash only. Do you think a wool cycle with 400 spin would be ok? If its not it all might have to go back! An 11 month old and hand wash only might be an epic fail.

aftermay · 04/09/2013 21:24

Re: bags. I have a couple of deep pink bags, one purple, one navy, one red, a few black ones. I never had a tan one AFAIR and I've purged a few in the wrong colours already. So I should be ok for that. I have colourful shoes & sandals. (You'll think i'm like a parrot, I do like colours.) It's the boots that may need replacing as brown won't go well now.

aftermay · 04/09/2013 21:26

That's what I noticed in the link, it says dry clean. You could try with one but quite an expensive test if it goes wrong. I'm pretty negligent with washing instructions as I cut away the labels as soon as I get them (itch).

KosherBacon · 04/09/2013 21:38

Oh crap. I'm going to have to read the instructions on the label again. I can NOT do dry clean only.

MrsRadicchio · 05/09/2013 10:20

I wash merino on a delicates cycle with wool detergent, works fine.

FaddyPeony · 05/09/2013 10:32

Beattie, just a question about your sparkle crew from whistles. Does yours also have a sort of seam running down the back, almost looks like a rip?! Just want to be sure it's not a rip!

Love the navy and silver though. Wearing it now, it's great.

SunnyUpNorth · 05/09/2013 18:08

I've done my Gap haul (thanks Queen!)
I got the merino crew sweaters in navy and powerful blue, that name is so funny. Also got the merino cardi in the same colours and got some chinos.

I saw the dry clean only thing but am planning to wash them in the machine on the delicates wool cycle.

SunnyUpNorth · 05/09/2013 18:17

Ps Kezztrel - I can't believe how much nice stuff there is on Jack Wills...I wish you had never mentioned it, it may cost me alot of money!

Kezztrel · 05/09/2013 18:25

Sorry Sunny! What else is tempting you?

SunnyUpNorth · 05/09/2013 19:25

Well I like your sweater in all the colours except the mustard, same for the merino crew and the cable crew. I also like the cardigan, think its the Latchmere. But doubt I would get much wear from that.

At this rate I will end up with a wardrobe full of crew neck sweaters in a range of navy's, blues, pinks and greys!

SunnyUpNorth · 05/09/2013 19:28

This could be cute

Kezztrel · 05/09/2013 20:04

I hadn't seen that, I love jumper dresses. Would have to try it to make sure it's nicely slouchy not sack like.

Can I have opinions on if the colours in this are wintery enough?
www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Knitwear/Jumpers/WK901/Womens-Chevron-Yoke-Jumper.html?NavGroupID=6 The one with grey and pink stripes. I suspect not... I really want a scandi style or fair isle jumper but they are never in winter colours!

MadAboutHotChoc · 05/09/2013 20:50

Was admiring the jumpers at Jack Wills - I used to think these were for teens but I am really tempted with the cashmere ones as the prices are fantastic. I am still waiting til October as I know more new stock is due to come through in all stores this month.

The boden jumper is a possible - shame about the orange, you could try it on and see how it looks?

KosherBacon · 05/09/2013 21:08

One of the things my consultants said is your colours should be at least 80% of your wardrobe, so it's still ok to have a bit if colour that isn't part of your season, as long as it blends in well and isn't dominant around your face.
