I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

Can anyone help with my bra brand question, this is what i remember about the site

£50+

very few styles (maybe 3)

only 3 colours (white/black/nude)

I think they went into detail ,with diagrams, about how the bras were constructed

Finally decided to take the plunge but can't find the site on bookmark Sad

Liveinthepresent · 05/03/2013 22:45

Hmm maybe I won't return this one until I have tried the 36 - it seems like a big jump in size.
It felt amazing just to be supported in underwires again. And makes the more fitted maternity clothese look so much better.
Am currently wearing 2 bras on rotation from previous pregnancy. Blush

marriednotdead · 05/03/2013 23:00

If you feel that it's unlikely that your back would go up a whole band size, order the next cup size up in the 34 instead, but buy a back extender for extra comfort in the final weeks. I often advise that for women whose band size doesn't vary much.

treaclesoda · 05/03/2013 23:07

Cardoon I've been thinking about your post on and off all day, and I can't think what site it might be. Sorry.

cardoon · 05/03/2013 23:10

Thanks treacle, I was so sure i had bookmarked it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/03/2013 23:25

I can't think of it either...trying to though :)

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 00:00

OOH MarriedNotDead

How are the new Dixie and Aleya fitting...they're awfully pretty and I may need to try them out.

Morning SC How do you all stay up so late?!

The Dixie is based on the recent Starburst bra, a great fit if fractionally smaller than its predecessor.

Aleya is lovely, a bit princess Barbie in the pink, good for fuller coverage without looking like a vest! Nearest style to it would be Boudoir Beau.

In terms of sizing, your Alana size in Dixie and a cup smaller in the Aleya.

CelticPromise · 06/03/2013 07:41

liveinthepresent just wanted to say, it's perfectly ok to wear underwired bras in pregnancy if they fit properly and don't cut into breast tissue, no need for soft bras.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 09:24

Thanks Married! Haven't tried Starburst yet but hoping it might suit me better than Satine .

BTW - is it my imagination or does the Barbie Aleya on the model (website) not quite tack? ;)

Kopparbergkate · 06/03/2013 11:28

Can I come into the thread and have some gentle hair stroking rather than advice (don't think advice is possible).

I measured according to the Ewa website and came out as a 90M but I'm 36 weeks pregnant so I thought I'd ask for a 90N to allow growing room. There's no size 90M listed as available on the feeding bras but the website does say "if you're size isn't shown in the drop down list, email us and we''l make it". So I emailed asking for a 90N. The response came back, and I could "see" the Hmm face even over the email, "are you sure you measured right, we don't make bras that big". So I confirmed that I had measured right, and asked for a 90M - which is what their size guide had said I was so I assumed they must make it.

I've just received a really terse response just saying its not possible to make bras that big - I get the strong impression they think I'm a hairy handed trucker or something. I'm not. I may be a complete FREAK in terms of bra size but I'm not some weirdo... am I....??

for some reason this has really bothered me... am in tears at work :(

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 11:40

Oh Kopparberg you poor thing! This shitty fitting system has a lot to answer for as it is sizing so many women out.

I have no idea how much they charge but what about here or even here

I'm also wondering if there are any awesome seamstress MNs who understand pattern drafting and could help....

AmazingDisgrace · 06/03/2013 12:59

So my first venture out of 34E's have been 34F and 32FF. The 32 band fits way better for sure. The quadraboob has been sorted with both the 34F and 32FFs but the problem I'm getting is that at the part of the cup where its closest to the central gore I'm getting some gaping. I'm scooping like a loon and I know that going down a cup will just mean overspill at the top and by my armpits.

The central gore (eg in the Delphi) is lying flat but it is quite narrow in this bra. Would a wider or lower gore help? Any suggestions re that or specific styles welcome!

My measurements are 33 under and 39/40 over

Imlostwithoutahope · 06/03/2013 13:07

Hi can anyone help?

I think I'm quite flat chested as there's not more than a small handful but I've been measured in debenhams as a 32c. It doesn't sound right to me as I don't think I look a c cup.
My measurements are 29.5 under and if I sit straight I'm a 33 across but if I measure bending over ( like what was suggested on the thread) I'm a 34.5. Can anyone work out what size I might be?
Also because I buy very padded bras my right boob always seems to gape and it means the edge of the right bra is visible through tops. Any ideas what may be wrong?

Sorry for all the questions

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 13:17

imlostwithoutahope...based on your bending over measurements I would suggest trying a 30D/DD to start. You might also want to try a 28DD/E too.

I suspect you might have a little asymmetry if you are only seeing the gaping on one side but wearing a smaller back size will help to hold the cup up better. The bra may also not be the best shape for your breasts.

Amazingdisgrace I think it might just be a shape issue. Married is a bit better with styles than me but it sounds like something wider gored might be better. You might also suit something which has a little more coverage at the outside of the cups to keep you inwards .

AmazingDisgrace · 06/03/2013 13:30

Thanks SC, yes to something with good sides! I definitely need a little help there, I hate full cups though so hopefully Married will be along with ideas.

I do love this Delphi though, its pretty! Just irritating that you can see the slight gape through my top. Gives them great shape otherwise.

treaclesoda · 06/03/2013 13:31

Kopparberg .

As I posted elsewhere (I think it was the thread on chat), when I was a teenager I went to a really reputable bra shop for a fitting and whilst, yes, they fitted me and fitted me correctly, the lady in the shop also tutted a lot, and called all the other staff in to look at me because I was such a 'strange' shape. 32GG, as it happens, which in 2013 we now know is far from being unusual. But I genuinely thought I was the only person my age in the whole of the UK who was that. So I really do feel your pain, I know what its like to be made to feel like a freak.

I seem to have been bras on the brain for the past week and have spent hours and hours researching whats available online, and I stumbled across this. I have no idea if its any good, don't know anyone who has bought anything, and the price is enough to make me need to lie down. But if it were the only way to get something to fit, I might well consider it.

I hope you get something. You are not a freak, of that I am certain.

Interesting that she identified that as the cause of the problem! Don't suppose you would mind telling me a wee bit more about the pain aspect and how it's changed would you? I have added a bra pain article to the blog thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk but it could really do with some personal stories to give it some weight I think.

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 06/03/2013 14:17

A name change in honour of this thread!

I am despairing of finding a comfy bra in my size. I love the way lacy frilly pretty bra's look but hate the way there is always something to itch/scratch. Sat here is a boring debenhams t-shirt bra in a 32FF (with the tags on - I am working from home!) which has nothin to itch me, trying to work out if its a good fit or not. I have tried on hundreds!

With the whole back fat thing, presumably if you are squidgy around the middle like me you are going to get some back fat whatever size you wear? I have not been able to eliminate the under arm fat whichever size I try.

Hoping my sale bargain Cleo Meg's arrive today so I can see what they are like.
Is is possble to get a bra that you cant feel you are wearing but that gives boobs come umph!?

cerealqueen · 06/03/2013 14:20

It is really hard to get bras with small back sizes and a larger cup size. I want to order some for delivery to try at home and M&s dont have my size. But, Simply Be have loads and loads! They start at 28 and go up to a K cup!!!

here

Happy shopping!

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 14:29

HangingGardens (love NC!) I'm not going to pretend that I have zero back fat in a good bra (cos you have all seen by backfat now, as has half the internet!) but it is considerably reduced in the right bra. The underarm fat should be able to be scooped forward although to begin with you may need to "rescoop" a couple of times a day to retrain it where to go.
