Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

A 30f would be two cup sizes smaller. Maybe the 30ff? Have you scooped to check the gaping isnt due to escaping sideboob because of loose band?

ClairesTravellingCircus · 05/03/2013 14:01

Have scooped religiously as learnt on here Grin

30FF then, I knew there was something I was missing. Once I find my perfect bra/size I will order in all the colours, and hopefully be done for a while! Smile

Sad looks like I'm going to have to do all my bra shopping online from now on. The only place in my town that does a larger range of bras in the right size for me is Ann Summers and to be quite honest, I find a lot of the stuff there a little, dare I say it, tacky. Primark has a FEW in the right size but it's very much a case of getting lucky as they stock very few in a size larger than a D. I thought that I might get lucky in a couple of shops as they sell clothes for larger ladies but NONE of the bras in those shops come in anything smaller than a 40 back size. Seems that the general assumption in my local stores is that if you're a large cup size you must be a large back size as well.

poorbuthappy · 05/03/2013 14:41

Satisticallychallenged do you still want photos?

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/03/2013 14:51

Please! Email address is on threads somewhere!

cardoon · 05/03/2013 15:58

Yes treacle, the site only sells the one brand.

I'm sure I discovered it through one of these bra intervention threads, a while back.....Smile

Hello Ladies.

I have finally got round to buying a tape measure.

Measurements are: 33 inches under the bust

37 inches around the fullest.

What should I be trying?

Many thanks!

SorrelForbes · 05/03/2013 16:49

Try a 32DD, 32D, 34D and 34C. I suspect the 32 will be a better fit for you.

midnightinmoscow · 05/03/2013 16:53

Hi Sorrel,

Thanks for replying. I did try a 32DD and a 34D today.

32DD felt really tight, loads of back fat.

34D - the cup felt too small, had boobs coming out of my armpits!

SorrelForbes · 05/03/2013 17:11

Ok, back fat is usually a sign of too small a cup. Did you try the 32 on back to front? If it feels ok like that then I would suggest trying a 32E and maybe an F.

Sorry to go on Blush but looking at the photos I've sent do you think the panache fits ok? It's really comfy I've had it on all day Smile

Jemster · 05/03/2013 18:05

Hi I had a fitting at Bravissimo last week, 32E. I bought the Fantasie Rebecca bra which although a good fit I found a little tight and also the moulding was too much for me and I couldn't relax in it so returned it.
I have since trawled various shops looking for a comfy bra in my new size but no joy.
Today I tried some more Fantasie ones in Debenhams and they do fit me so well and are comfortable. The only thing is they all have half lace at the top and my nipples are positioned right on it which I don't think would be a good look with clothes on!

Is there a Fantasie bra that would have some padding to disguise the nipple but not so stiff like the fully moulded ones? I would like something in between if possible. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/03/2013 18:24

I don't know of any in Fantasie but you might want to try Fauve which are a sister brand as is Freya.

TheOldestCat · 05/03/2013 19:27

THANK YOU all!

Lurked on this thread last week; went to M&S today and discovered that instead of a 36B I'm a 34DD. My new bras rock.

THANK YOU THANK YOU.

showtunesgirl · 05/03/2013 19:28

Interesting. How did the M & S fitter fit you?

SorrelForbes · 05/03/2013 20:02

Hmmmm, the thing is M&S fitted me as a 36D when I'm a 30G/GG! What are your measurements?

Hello me again - I took delivery of an Anita underwired maternity/ nursing bra today - 34F - I think it fits perfectly - my question is - should the band still be quite tight and on the loosest fitting?
Not sure if I need to allow room for further expansion of ribs? Or whether all bras will stretch and give enough that this will take care of itself?
Am 24 weeks now if that helps.
TIA

Morgan · 05/03/2013 21:58

Hi just want to check size measure 37 " and 48 " - thinking 36 g or h ??? Wound be most grateful for thoughts. Also I don't usually wear a wired bar as always find them uncomfortable - will this change with the right size ??

SorrelForbes · 05/03/2013 22:06

morgan. Try a 36HH and sizes around that. Underwired should be fine in the correct size!

OP posts:
SorrelForbes · 05/03/2013 22:08

live. I think with maternity bras you should buy them to fit on the tightest hook to allow for rib expansion.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 05/03/2013 22:12

Yup Sorrel, that's what I was told re maternity bras - buy on tightest hook or if you are in between get the slightly bigger one. But don't buy a bigger bra to "grow in to" cos you need the support. I only went up one back in pregnancy. Despite gaining 4 stone Blush

marriednotdead · 05/03/2013 22:24

If you're only 24 weeks now then your boobs are also likely to get bigger as well as your back. A hard one to gauge without seeing you but if you intend to have it right through to beyond birth and initial weeks, I'd suggest getting at least one size bigger in the band.

It's best to get your nursing bras as close to your due date as possible- not before 37 weeks if you can help it.

When you choose your nursing bra at that point, it should be as tight as comfortably possible in the band, and a bit too big (but not baggy) in the cup.

Liveinthepresent · 05/03/2013 22:24

Ok thank you both - glad I checked as was very tempted to wear it to work tomorrow as its the best shape my boobs have been in for a while.
Will exchange for 36.
Don't want it to only have a short life if I expand more - hope not too much more - my boobs are much bigger second time round than first pregnancy.
This thread is fab!

Liveinthepresent · 05/03/2013 22:28

Oh just saw your additions too married that's great input.
I mainly want something to give me a good shape for fitted clothes at work etc pre mat leave - but if it can be used during BF as well then of course that's a bonus.
I am ashamed to admit I didn't get fitted for any at all last time - but will definitely do that this time.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/03/2013 22:33

It's a tricky juggling act - I worked in a fairly "smart" environment til 38 weeks so I decided to live with buying extras as I just didn't feel supported enough if I went up too far in the back. Perils of knowing what a good bra feels like!
