Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

I will take a look, are they quite big in the cup then? If I've lost a bit of volume at the top due to being mid 40s would the half cup in those Fauve bras be OK? I'm assuming I don't need to go down to an F?
In a 34 E I had major over spillage in everything other than a La Senza one that was sort of a plunge balconette hybrid Confused It had wide straps, mid gore but ace support from the side and from the band

SpottyTeacakes · 28/02/2013 07:07

That Anne Summers calculator has my big (for me!) breastfeeding boobs at a........36A! You lovely ladies have told me to try a 30DD or 28E. I think I've got an AS a cup somewhen and even pre babies and any weight gain it was way too small!

SorrelForbes · 28/02/2013 07:36

Ha ha, Ann Summers sizes me as a 36D. I wear a 30G/GG.

StatisticallyChallenged I think I'm going to have to accept that I do need a 30GG now (glares at slice of buttered toast!). I am wearing my new Cleo Juna in black, 30G and am definitely getting some cup overspill and underarm bulge Sad. The back feels fairly loose though. I wonder whether a 28H might be an idea (just in this style though as 30s are fine to tight in others)?

29 1/2 under bust and then 33 bust (or maybe a bit less) - what does that make me? Lost weight after having had DS in August and now wear a maternity/pregnancy bra that grows/shrinks with you. Comy but unsexy.

13Iggis · 28/02/2013 10:40

Have saved all the bra checking info onto my phone and will take it to Debenhams as soon as I can! I will get funny looks going into the changing room with so many bras, won't I? (Hope no-one offers to measure me!)

choxanwine · 28/02/2013 10:51

Help please! Just took my measurements: 34 under and 46 over - what does this mean? I have no clue. I have somehow reached ripe middle-age without ever being able to find a bra I am completely happy with Sad

HazleNutt · 28/02/2013 10:57

chisle try about 30C and D or 28D and DD
Chox I would guess around 34HH

Chislemum · 28/02/2013 11:01

Many thanks Hazel Smile

ok so my gorgeous new undies arrived and I've just tried the bra on. I ordered the 28FF. the band seems snug but comfortable so that's great. the cups don't seem to fit quite right though so I'd appreciate some help in getting it right! I've done the vigorous scooping Grin but the fabric just above the nipple seems slightly wrinkled. its not gaping at the top though. any thoughts? its the Persia masquerade if that makes any difference. cheers!

JeffFaFa · 28/02/2013 11:33

Right this new bra thing isnt working for me thats 3 orders failed now, so first bra debenhams brand 30DD was a bit tight in the back and cup slightly too small little bit of overspill but i felt well supported in the back and no unsightly crepeyness when leaving forward white was almost there, black too tight couldnt breath in both went back, couldnt get that bra in a bigger cup though so next ordered panache tango in 30E, back felt ok little loose actually, cups far far to big. Today recieved cleo juna in 30E back so loose i had to tighten on tightest hooks, still no support from cups so tightened shoulder straps to tightest, little gaping in the cup but passable, i felt totally held up by the straps though and still horrible crepeyness when leaning forward my boobs also looked odd shaped pointyish so a fail, arghh i cant figure this out!

HazleNutt · 28/02/2013 11:34

Hm I would think that size sounds right then, but you simply need a different cut. I don't know the specific model though.

HazleNutt · 28/02/2013 11:35

Jeff unfortunately indeed the brands all fit slightly differently, so why don't you try to get the same models you already tried in different sizes? Debenhamns runs small, could go up a back size and with others, go down.

JeffFaFa · 28/02/2013 11:49

Im going to try the debenhams one in a 32DD i think i can always tighten the back, its got to be better than the old 36D im wearing

choxanwine · 28/02/2013 11:50

HazleNutt - thank you very much (...knew I was going to be surprised!)

Florizel · 28/02/2013 16:02

Oh bra oracles - if you can bear to do another one - what am I? I am 34.5 under and 41 over. Yikes.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 16:03

Start with a 34F

Florizel · 28/02/2013 17:08

Thanks very much. Looking forward to a better shape!

InMySpareTime · 28/02/2013 17:14

I am looking perky and fabulous in a 28GG Betsy Bow bra, measured in bravissimo. Grin Hard to believe Boux Avenue put me in a 36GG 3 months ago!

PeoniesPlease · 28/02/2013 17:16

Would someone tell me what size I should be wearing?

37.5 under
44 over

I'm wearing a 40B atm which I know is wrong for me!

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 17:17

PeoniesPlease, try a 36FF, 36F, 38F and 38E. Most people in between backs tend to get in better with the smaller back size so try the 36s first.

PeoniesPlease · 28/02/2013 17:20

Thank you! I'm going shopping tomorrow so will hopefully be a lot more comfortable soon! Thanks

CelticPromise · 28/02/2013 18:03

Jeff it sounds like you need to go up in the cup in the Debenhams one, not in the band.

AnnaK · 28/02/2013 18:31

The best bra I have ever bought was a Prima Donna bra. I was properly fitted and was the same size as when I bought a Fantasie bra but the difference is beyond description! I have extreme breast pain about 12 days every month and any movement is agony. With my Prima Donna bra I can get on with life (unless one of my children come close for a tight hug!). I am a 34E. I now realise why such things cost £60 each... I have never been happy with an M&S or Bravissimo fitted bra, I have always had to take them back.
