Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

dotty, even if you stick with your 32, I think an E cup would be better for you (going off those measurements)

have you tried a 30F in a brand better known for being generous in the back ? (would have to scroll through the thread, sorry, or wait for an expert who is in the know)

CelticPromise · 26/02/2013 10:01

MrsPresley I'd start with a 36F and sizes around it. I promise it will make a difference!

dottyaboutstripes · 26/02/2013 10:07

An E cup is too big. My boobs are completely empty. I can't believe I would even need a dd as it looks as there is nothing there. I can fold them over (beautiful thought eh?) It's from breastfeeding all these kids plus my huge weight gain & loss I suppose

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 26/02/2013 10:39

dotty - the volume of an E cup on a 32 band will be much bigger than an E cup on a 28 band though.

NeverKnowinglyHelpful · 26/02/2013 11:10

This thread has prompted me to make my first ever MN post, as I'm amazed at what my measurements are telling me!

I'm 32" under, 41" over bust (using the "dangling" method) which makes me ... 32G??

Shock

Pre-pregnancy I always used to wear 36B - admittedly I'm currently breastfeeding, but that's a huge difference!

Time to hit the shops I think.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2013 11:12

Yup, start with a 32g neverknowingly.

AnyFucker · 26/02/2013 11:33

Exciting !

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2013 11:39

Dotty, I would suggest you try a 28 and ff. I do know what you mean about weight loss and emptyness, but the smaller back bigger cup will be more comfortable and supportive.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2013 11:41

That should be 28f and ff

AnyFucker · 26/02/2013 11:48

Could anybody repost that chart that compares the different back/cup sizes and illustrates so beautifully how different sizes actually have the same boob volume ?

MrsPresley · 26/02/2013 11:59

celticpromise The 36 part makes sense but an F cup, really Shock that sounds huuuge!

I honestly feel that I can only just fill a C cup, but I will give it a go tomorrow when I go shopping Grin

notjustamummythankyou · 26/02/2013 12:10

I found this on the Leia website, AF.

AnyFucker · 26/02/2013 12:12

Yes, that's the one, I think

SorrelForbes · 26/02/2013 12:20

MrsPresley The cup volume of a 36F is equal to the cup volume of a 38E, 40DD, 42D and so on.

You're probably not filling the cups on your 40C because the back is too big and not holding everything in the right place.

Are you scooping?

OhWouldYouJust · 26/02/2013 12:23

Can i ask for some help please? I am wearing a 36d, which feels ok, and these are my measurements -

35 underbust (can pull to 34 but it feels vvv restrictive)

44 over bust

SorrelForbes · 26/02/2013 12:30

OhWouldYouJust Try a 34GG, a 34G, a 36FF an a 36G.

I am going to hazard a guess that the 34GG might be the best size for you. Make sure you try on the bras back to front first to work out the correct back size. You may find that you're a 34 in some brands (Curvy Kate and Freya can be generous in the band) and 36 in other (Debenhams Gorgeous range comes up quite tight).

OhWouldYouJust · 26/02/2013 12:34

Dear lord really!!?? Shock

Thankyou, i shall go and try some on tomorrow and give them a go!! Smile

SorrelForbes · 26/02/2013 12:43

Be brave Grin. Make sure you scoop! A good fitting bra should eliminate any underarm bulge, back fat and quadraboob. I get all these issues when wearing a 34DD (not a pleasant sight) but none now that I'm in a 30G/GG.

OP posts:
ScrambledSmegs · 26/02/2013 12:44

Inspired by this thread I've re-measured myself. I'm breastfeeding so my choices are limited, and judging by my measurements even more so.

30.5 underbust.

39 over

That's a 30G, right? Shock I do have a small back, I know, but that's ridiculous!

FFS. Most of the nursing bras I like do not come in 30 measurements. Emma Jane, Hotmilk, Anita, all start at 32. The ones that do look horrific. The only one that looks ok is this one - Panache But I just want a super plain, everyday bra

Oh, I have also heard Bad Things about Lorna Drew nursing bras. Weird sizing and not very supportive, so am steering clear!

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2013 12:49

I would say to start with a 30g yes. I think bravissimo sell nursing bras...i have a feeling ewa michalak do too

SorrelForbes · 26/02/2013 12:51

ScrambledSmegs You are exactly the same measurements as me and I wear a 30G in most bras. However, after all the 'scooping' I've found that I'm now needing a 30GG in some bras. I do wear a 32G in one make (Ewa Michalak) as the back was very tight.

A 30 back isn't really that small. I'm not a skinny minnie Grin. It is so annoying that many bras only start at a 32 or 34 back. Most people I know need a 26,28, 30 or 32.

I'm afraid I don't know much about Nursing bras. I have a feeling that you can convert normal bras?

OP posts:
ScrambledSmegs · 26/02/2013 13:01

Really? Never heard of that. But then I have zero crafty talent so probably can't do that.

I shall look at bravissimo, but I have to admit their regular bras aren't very comfy on me. Hopefully nursing are more forgiving.

notjustamummythankyou · 26/02/2013 13:02

scrambledsmegs - there are half a dozen bras in your size that are prettier than the norm on the My Curves and Me website. I spotted them when I was looking a couple of days ago.

They're all half price too - whoop! - and don't forget to put WELCOME in the discount code box to get an extra 20% off + free p&p.
