Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

Can I have a bit of help with cup size please?

Underbust- 38
Overbust- 48

Would that make me a 38J?

Currently in 2+ year old nursing bras that are saggy and awful 42F I think.

DD2 down to night time feed only now so time for new bras before I go back to work with a mono boob down to my navel

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2013 15:41

Ayeoop, start with 38gg.

AyeOopMoose · 26/02/2013 15:47

Thank you!

Miemohrs, the bending over technique:

HOW TO MEASURE
Measure yourself firmly underneath your bust, in inches.
Measure your overbust, this should not be a tight measure. This should me measured around the widest part and there are two ways to do this:
1 - with a well fitting bra on (not padded)
2 - bra off, lean forward at the waist so your breasts are hanging down at 90 degree (i,e, away from you) then measure around.

Help oh wise bra ones!
I'm wearing a 34 D or DD.
I've just measured myself and I'm 30 band and 34 bust, using the MN bra measuring method.
So I'm a 30 D? But I'm spilling out a 34 D in a plunge with a bit of under arm fat- under my armpit but above the bra...you still with me?
I'm size 10/12 normally. I just can't believe I'm a 30 band. It only felt a bit uncomfortable when I really breathed out whilst I held the tape under me.
I've got a new 32 D bra and it's tight and rides up my b

ProlificWillyBreeder · 27/02/2013 09:47

Boobs!
Help me, I've got myself in a right state, I'm so confused.
Should I try a 30 D, 30 DD and 30 E?
I want a minimiser bra I hate them!

ProlificWillyBreeder · 27/02/2013 09:48

Should I try the swinging free measurement?

treaclesoda · 27/02/2013 09:54

ProlificWillyBreeder I know what its like to hate them, and want them to go away (I had breast reduction surgery) but your measurements aren't all that big and if you go down a back size and try a bigger cup size so that it doesn't ride up, your breasts will look much smaller anyway, and I could almost guarantee that you'll look smaller than you do now.

treaclesoda · 27/02/2013 09:54

oops, was thinking and typing and I repeated myself there!

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 09:56

Miemohrs, I suspect your size is somewhere in the middle othose two. Smallest would be around a 38jj largest a 38mm.

Prolific try the swinging measure please !

Talking about sports bras further up the thread got me thinking.

I have a friend who would be wearing, for a sports bra, the Royce Impact free in the 32K. Its not a great fit, and doesn't really control the bounce, but its the biggest cup size in a 32 back that she can find. Does anyone know of any other options? It really gets her down, as she struggles to exercise at all due to the embarrassment and discomfort.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 10:31

Miemohrs, at those sizes you really need a wire for support. I quite like the bravissimo alana.

Kopparbergkate · 27/02/2013 11:15

Sorry to hijack but the Bravissimo Alana only goes up to an L cup... any ideas where you can get a bigger cup than that?

I know there are web sites that advertise eg Elomi up to an M cup BUT (having done A LOT ;) of research I've discovered that they're not actually a bigger cup size than an Alana because they are non-UK sizing ie D, E, F, G, H, I, J, etc rather than D, DD, E, F, FF, G, H , HH etc.

Forgot to do my measurements last night but I REALLY need some help. 35 weeks pregnant and worried because I'm developing hard squashed patches of nork at the end of every day where the seams on my nursing bras are digging in rather than encapsulating. I'm wearing 38KK which is the biggest I can find. Even without measuring, I know from how the bra feels (the back band is riding up and I can pull it at least 3 inches away from my body) that the band is way too loose. I tried a 36L alana but the wires dig in even more and leave huge red marks and hard patches on the actual breast tissue - not good!

At this stage, I am willing to get nursing bras made to measure if I have to, any ideas where I can either buy truly enormous cup sizes OR get made to measure nursing bras.... (do R and P do made to measure nursing bras?)

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 11:24

Unfortunately it is very difficult to go over an l cup. Ewa michalak custom make, and it is also quite simple to reduce the back on a bra so many people try 1-2 back sizes bigger to get the extra cup volume then adjust back to fit.

Treacle- if I measure a 30 should I try 28?
How tight should it feel? I can't imagine being a 28, heck I can't imagine a 30!
When I'm next out I'll try a few on.

I'll measure the swinging way later..I'm eating soup currently!

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 12:14

Lol at eating soup. You may need a 28, I measure nearer to 32 and wear a 30. It depends on how heavy they are, how squishy your torso is, etc c

MrsPresley · 27/02/2013 12:40

Well I went out today, tried some bras on in M & S and all I can say is THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

When I was told yesterday to try a 36F (from wearing 40C) I thought, no way will my boobs fill that!

But I am now the proud owner of 3 very pretty 36F bras (2 with matching pants Smile )

Tried a few different sizes on, as I still wasn't convinced, but yes the 38's were too big and the cup sizes didn't sit right.

So I am about to chuck all my old bras and look forward to wearing my new ones Smile

AnyFucker · 27/02/2013 12:43

Woo hoooooo, mrsp Grin

SorrelForbes · 27/02/2013 12:52

Great news. Enjoy your new bras!

This is what I wanted in the gunmetal/pink but they didnt have my size and they don't have it online either Angry

Will try one of the bigger stores at the weekend.

The ones I got aren't online either but they are just plain pink and white (pack of 2) with a nice dotty pattern on them.

I cant it's taken till I'm almost 50 to get a properly fitting bra! I think I'm going to go a bit mad here Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 13:16

Woo Hoo MrsPresley! Now, be brave and branch out from M&S, there are some fab bras out there. Debenhams Gorgeous are a similar price point to M&S, but Brastop, Leia, My curves and Me, Amazon, Figleaves etc also have tonnes.

AmazingDisgrace · 27/02/2013 13:32

Marriednotdead..the Rossetti is a bit of a strange fit in the cups, you're right. It is however forcing me into good posture to avoid gaping at the top of the cups!
