Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

wow! youd think more people would have picked up on this by now! I'll be telling everyone about this now. haha

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 25/02/2013 18:25

Thanks for the comments on Panache. I thought it was just me. At first I thought their plunge bras were great .. good uplift compared with Fantasie ... but they do slip. I'm convinced Curvy Kate will be the answer.

Velve · 25/02/2013 18:31

Yep, I've always had trouble with wires and cups for my boobs.
I have tried loads of brands but haven't tried Curvy Kate yet, damn figleaves is being slow with my order. Hoping it fits.
I must just have weirdly shaped boobs/bottom of boobs.
Oh, well, at least I still get the support and the creases don't show through my t-shirt.

HazleNutt · 25/02/2013 19:01

And I still have to mention that most women on such threads seem to be D+, if not F+. We rarely ever have any actual As or Bs. But high street is 90% A-C.

So ladies, when you have gone from A to E and/or 34 to 28 in less than a minute thanks to such threads, don't forget to walk into all possible department stores and lingerie shops and demand your true sizes. At least then the shops can't claim that they don't stock big cups as nobody asks for them.

OneLittleLady · 25/02/2013 19:19

I'm actually a little bit outraged that the lady in Debenhams measured me so very badly. It's no wonder I was in constant pain and discomfort when I was squeezed into such a tiny bra Angry

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2013 19:28

I'm not surprised, there is a hell of a difference between an A and an e! you must have been in pain. hope they feel better now

hippoCritt · 25/02/2013 19:42

I have taken my badly fitting bras to charity place but I do wondering trading standards is relevant, so many wrongly sold if everyone wrongly advised took their bras back and complained maybe retailers would take more notice.

OneLittleLady · 25/02/2013 19:57

Much better StatisticallyChallenged. As an added bonus, I look sooooo much better, no nasty lumpy bits where there shouldn't be under my tops now!

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 26/02/2013 00:21

Does anyone have an in date code for the lovebras site. I signed up and they sent me an out of date code which is not helping my Curvy Kate purchase.

SlantyBaws · 26/02/2013 04:14

I finally bit the bullet and went shopping today. Great shop called Lin and Barrett (Aussie chicks take note).

The fitter took one look at me in my Target 36B and gave me into trouble as the wires were sitting on breast tissue :o

So now I am here in my 32DD feeling mighty fantastic!

Thank you all soooo much for your help and advice!

I would suggest trying a 38HH and cup sizes around that. Follow the guidance up thread about getting the back right first. You may need to go down to a 36 (and then up in the cup again to a J or bigger).

I'm sure someone will be along with suggestions about specific bras. Personally I'm sceptical about whether its possible to get adequate support in a non-wired bra once you need above a certain size. I'm a 30G and there is no way I would get the lift I need (and like) without wires.

In a wrong size, wires will definitely dig in. They shouldn't in a right size - if still do, try other models/brands. I agree that in 38HH, you simply won't get the support without wires.

(I know they tell you to hand wash, but I wash all my bras in washing machine, on delicate, in one of those mesh laundry bags. Bras look fine).

MrsPresley · 26/02/2013 08:48

Hi

Could someone help me with what size I should be wearing please.

I'm 36 around the ribs and 43 with dangling boobs Grin

I've been wearing a 40C for years and while it feels ok around the way, the cups are a bit loose especially the left side, which must be a bit smaller than the right Grin

SorrelForbes · 26/02/2013 08:52

I find he best way to wash them is in a net laundry bag or by hand (total
pain!).

The wires have probably been uncomfortable because you've been wearing the wrong size/style and therefore haven't had the fit and support to keep your boobs lifted and sop the wires moving.

OP posts:
AgathaF · 26/02/2013 08:53

The wires on mine used to dig in when I wore the wrong size. Sometimes had bruising and usually had red marks from the wires at the side. That was when wearing a 36D, and even a 38D to try to get them more comfortable. Now in a 32F/FF and the wires are fine.

AnyFucker · 26/02/2013 09:13

I wash my bras in an old pillowcase on a 40 degree machine wash

Regarding washing bras, I use these lingerie washing bags from Lakeland. They are fabulous!

dottyaboutstripes · 26/02/2013 09:36

I measure 29 under and 35 over and am a 32dd, and yes, it's right. Can only wear Triumph though as have strange boobs Hmm. According to the hints here, I should be a 28 or 30 band but I can't do them up.

AgathaF · 26/02/2013 09:39

miemohrs - can you get to a Bravissimo for a fitting and to try a range on and see what suits your shape best?

AgathaF · 26/02/2013 09:42

That's because you need a bigger cup size dotty. The experts will be along shortly to give you a range of sizes to try, but I guess you will need to go up at least 2 cup sizes on a 30 band, and probably 3 sizes on a 28 band.

dottyaboutstripes · 26/02/2013 09:45

I have tried that (ie going up cup sizes) and no good. Maybe it's to do with the fact that I used to be MUCH bigger and I have extra skin? For example, I'd go down a dress size if I had my spare skin cut off my tummy (having 6 babies hasn't helped!)
