Anyone interested in a 100 day "Princessing" challenge?

HelgatheHairy · 08/09/2012 14:59

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a 100 day "Princessing" challange?

I've read a few threads on this and the ones that had the best responce were the ones where there was a finish date, like the original one where it was a countdown to the Royal wedding. Otherwise the threads just tend to wither and die a bit.

If we were to start on 15th September (next Saturday), 100 days from that would be 24th December!

Between now and then there will be parties and other events and it would be nice to feel like it's not a last minute panic to feel ready for them and to have some "groundwork" done.

The original guidelines are as follows but feel free to tweek to suit your own circumstances:

  1. 8 glasses of filtered water a day
  2. Exfoliate (everything...within reason)
  3. Use teeth whitener
  4. Use anti-aging face cream
  5. Intensive nail care (feet and hands)
  6. Use eyelash growth serum OR eye cream
  7. The Shred / other intensive exercise
  8. At least 2 extra fruit & veg every day
  9. Healthy breakfast daily
10. Use hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc) 11. No alcohol during the week & no boozing it up on weekends 12. Take vitamins every day 13. Body brushing 14. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week. 15. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM. 16. Regular hair removal 17. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps 18. No more fizzy drinks 19. DAILY body moisturising 20. Warm water with lemon first thing in the a.m.

Personally, I'm changing no. 3 to use whitening toothpaste and no. 20 to a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar daily

I'm also taking out no. 14 (as I know i'd never manage twice a week so there's no point) and adding one to remove make up EVERY night!

So my personal list is as follows:

  1. 8 glasses of filtered water a day
  2. Exfoliate (everything...within reason)
  3. Use teeth whitening toothpaste
  4. Use anti-aging face cream
  5. Intensive nail care (feet and hands)
  6. Use eyelash growth serum OR eye cream
  7. The Shred / other intensive exercise
  8. At least 2 extra fruit & veg every day
  9. Healthy breakfast daily
10. Use hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc) 11. No alcohol during the week & no boozing it up on weekends 12. Take vitamins every day 13. Body brushing 14. Remove make up EVERY night 15. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM. 16. Regular hair removal 17. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps 18. No more fizzy drinks 19. DAILY body moisturising 20. Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar daily

The link to the original thread is here, if anyone wants to know the background to how the guidelines were chosen.

So is anyone in? I've posted early so people have a chance to gather supplies if they want. Please note I've been careful to avoid usage of the "C" word! I would also encourage people to personalise their lists. I know that if I see a list of things that aren't relevant to me I tend to not take as much notice of the bits that are relevant.

pretzel the big event this is leading to is Christmas. To me the point of the thread is to start doing the little things that can make us feel a bit more together. After 100 days the plan is people have gotten into a routine and will find it easier to keep up the details

OP posts:
KateSpade · 10/09/2012 22:58

I got a sample of the REN glycolactic (Sp?) masque thing & my face felt as smooth as my babies ass! Seriously it is amazing. Which other REN products have you tried Jammie?

Helga Yes be very careful. My dad bought me a pound shop ped egg instead and it works really well. Let me know what you think of the liquid gold, as I'm debating weather to buy it.

I did my my nails like this tonight. But with a nail wrap set. Wont be repurchasing them from boots again, unless their is a deal on. As its £7.00 for one set. Look great though!

lurkingfromhome · 11/09/2012 08:09

Not sure if this will be helpful to anyone, but I struggle with adult acne and this is my skincare routine:

morning:
MD Formulations glycolic cleanser OR Murad clarifying cleanser
Dermalogica daily microfoliant
Alpha-H Liquid Gold
Murad acne + wrinkles moisturiser (can't remember exact name!)
Murad eye cream

evening
Avene soapless cleanser (good for taking make-up off)
PhAdvantage Vitamin C serum
Murad acne + wrinkles moisturiser
Murad eye cream

Also, twice a week either Alpha H Liquid Gold smoothing and perfecting mask or Murad clarifying mask (if skin being particularly problematic).

Now, if I could only devote as much attention to everything else as I do to my face, we'd be laughing...

AGeeksWife · 11/09/2012 08:23

I painted my nails all lovely last night, went to bed (in moisturising gloves) and they are chipped already- how?!?!?! I haven't done anything!

So think it'll be clear fingernails for me from now on as I can't find a nail varnish not to chip and dont want gel/shellac.

I need to buy an exfoliator, can't decide whether to just get gloves though.

lurkingfromhome · 11/09/2012 08:39

AGeeksWife, which top coat do you use? I find that it all depends on that rather than the nail varnish. I use OPI Start to Finish, which I think is really good. Also, I do a layer of varnish, a layer of top coat, then another of varnish and another of top coat. Can usually get a good five days out of it that way.

gnomealone · 11/09/2012 10:00

just trying to get myself all sorted for Saturday and realised i have no idea what i need to do re hands, feet and nails. I feel like I missed the series of lectures everybody attended. How do I not know this stuff Blush. I have the flexitol heel balm for my feet but do I need just a general moisturiser too or is that enough? For hands I have the neutrogena handcream but will I need a separate cuticle cream or will that do it? And what is a crystal nail file everybody is on about. I like my nails really short so use a nail clipper but I guess I need a nail file too?

on the positive front i have ordered the shred, have taken vitamins and flax seed oil and am cutting down on caffeine. feel better already! This thread is going to be brilliant!

LauraShigihara · 11/09/2012 10:44

I had a look at this last night and am very keen to join you all. It's a good idea to make it a hundred days challenge as it will keep me going in the first few days if I know it isn't going on forever.

I am off to Boots to stock up (any excuse Grin )

My version is

  1. 8 glasses of filtered water a day will aim for four as I love my weak tea during the day and can't consume much more liquid!
  2. Exfoliate (everything...within reason) Already do this
  3. Use teeth whitener use whitening toothpaste already
  4. Use anti-aging face cream again, already do this
  5. Intensive nail care (feet and hands) will continue
  6. Use eyelash growth serum OR eye cream again, continue
  7. The Shred / other intensive exercise used my copy once and it nearly finished me off. Will have another go and keep it up this time
  8. At least 2 extra fruit & veg every day in my case, try to have five
  9. Healthy breakfast daily
10. Use hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc) have never tried this but I'll give it a go. Will it be okay for my very greasy scalp? 11. No alcohol during the week & no boozing it up on weekends not a drinker so this will be easy 12. Take vitamins every day 13. Body brushing I used to love this - so nice and tingly before having a shower 14. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week. 15. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM. love going to bed early so this will be a pleasure 16. Regular hair removal already pretty good with this one 17. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps have been trying to wean myself off chocolate so a good one to continue 18. No more fizzy drinks 19. DAILY body moisturising already do as my skin is very dry 20. Warm water with lemon first thing in the a.m. I'll try a small glass of water instead

Looking at this list, it's the food and exercise bit that's going to be the biggest change for me.

HelgatheHairy · 11/09/2012 11:49

Quick update before I come back to do queries soon.

Used the micro pedi for the first time this morning and it's brilliant! Really liked it and was being very careful and cautious with it. It will take a few more uses before my heels are perfect but I had 2 bits of hard skin under my big toes and they're almost completely gone. Have now smothered my feet in Flexitol heel balm.

OP posts:
Helenagrace · 11/09/2012 13:45

I'm rocking up fashionably late but this is what I need. I'm on my phone but I will post my list later.

I am currently running down two companies, closing a third, home schooling DD and trying to move 300 miles. I need an excuse for me time!

HelgatheHairy · 11/09/2012 14:42

Gnome Flexitol is enough. It's the best foot moisturiser around in my opinion. Neutrogena is good too. To be honest I'm not the best with my cuticals, but it would be good to make sure you rub the Neutrogena into your cuticals. Someone might be along with slightly better advise though. The crystal nail file is use is this one and I really think it's worth it. Filing (as opposed to just cutting) helps strenghten the nails (I think)

Laura I couldn't walk properly for 3 days the first time I used the Shred! I did use it once more but never again after that! So I need to pull it out and use it again properly.

Helena Glad to have you on board. You sound insanely busy.

OP posts:
Helenagrace · 11/09/2012 16:30

Ok on proper computer not phone now so here is my pledge:

  1. 8 glasses of filtered water a day

Absolutely

  1. Exfoliate (everything...within reason)

yes

  1. Use teeth whitener

Not sure about this one as I have quite weak enamel. Will ask the hygienist.

  1. Use anti-aging face cream

Already do but not rigorous about night cream always - will do better!

  1. Intensive nail care (feet and hands)

Oh my goodness. My feet are awful. I WILL have pretty feet!

  1. Use eyelash growth serum OR eye cream

Eyelash growth serum??!! What is this thing? Will google and pedge to do eye cream twice a day.

  1. The Shred / other intensive exercise

I will die if I try the shred. Will dig out Davina instead.

  1. At least 2 extra fruit & veg every day

Yes

  1. Healthy breakfast daily

Yes

  1. Use hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc)

Don't know about hair oil. I like my hair. Will think / research.

  1. No alcohol during the week & no boozing it up on weekends

Yes

  1. Take vitamins every day

No I shouldn't need them.

  1. Body brushing

Yes

  1. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week.

OK

  1. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM.

Bliss. Sounds just what I need

  1. Regular hair removal

Yes

  1. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps

Will stop pilfering the children's sweets.

  1. No more fizzy drinks

Yes

  1. DAILY body moisturising

Yes

  1. Warm water with lemon first thing in the a.m.

Had heard lemon wasn't good for the teeth so will pledge to replace all but two coffees with green tea or decaff coffee.

I'm adding an extra one:

  1. Only read /watch things that are going to be good for me - so no Mumsnet threads that I know are going to be annoying, DM links, rubbish telly. I have enough to do without wasting my time on this stuff.

Roll on Saturday!

NotNeeemo · 11/09/2012 16:42

I am in tooSmile

sillymillyb · 11/09/2012 16:55

I am just home from shopping, I've decided that in conjunction with this I am going to set my clothes out the night before as I think I need to be a bit more organised on that score too. No point having a new body and face if Im dressed in my scraggy clothes that have been lying on the floor for days!

Here's my list anyway, now Im on a computer too:

  1. 8 glasses of water a day
  2. Exfoliate
  3. Use teeth whitener - have bought advance white arm &hammer toothpaste
  4. Use anti-aging face cream - any face cream would be an improvement for me
  5. Intensive nail care (feet and hands)
  6. Use eyelash growth serum OR eye cream - I couldn't afford the eyelash serum so am plumping for eye cream insead. I need to do something about my eyelashes though as years of fake lash wearing has pulled most of mine out Blush
  7. The Shred / other intensive exercise - I am going to aim for some form of exercise every day, even if its just walking for half an hour with the pram
  8. At least 2 extra fruit & veg every day - My diet is horrendous so will concentrate on this
  9. Healthy breakfast daily - any breakfast would be a start for me
10. Use hair oil - already do this. Love my morroccon oil. 11. No alcohol during the week & no boozing it up on weekends - not really drinking at mo as on my own with baby, have occasional glass of wine though 12. Take vitamins every day 13. Body brushing 14. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week I don't eat fish, so am replacing this with maintaining my gradual fake tanning. Im not orange by way, more blue if I dont use it! 15. One Two early nights once a week. Suggest 9PM. - The baby is killing me with sleep deprivation at the mo, I need more than 1 early night! 16. Regular hair removal 17. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps - I am going to cheat slightly with this and alternate giving up chips one week, with chocolate the next and then repeat. My diet is crap at the mo, but I want to make this achievable and I know cold turkey would break me 18. No more fizzy drinks - I will cut back massively, but as above, cutting out completely would make me miserable 19. DAILY body moisturising 20. Warm water with lemon first thing in the a.m.
HelgatheHairy · 11/09/2012 17:16

silly You have the right idea with just cutting back instead of cutting out things. There's no point in setting yourself up to fail. I'm using Mavala double lash serum cause I cant afford rapid lash. This is much cheaper but reviews say it has good results, it just takes a bit longer to work. this one

I looked at that one in boots earlier, Helga but wanted to check reviews before I parted with my pennies. Wish I'd got it now! Will nip back on Fri to get it I think :)

greedycow · 11/09/2012 17:31

  5. Intensive nail care (feet and hands) - feet and cuticles in bad condition

  8. At least 2 extra fruit & veg every day - already trying to eat more fruit and veg
  9. Healthy breakfast daily - just started doing this
10. Use hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc) - will go to Superdrug to look for the coconut oil 11. No alcohol during the week & no boozing it up on weekends - don't really drink very much 12. Take vitamins every day - need to do this as get lots of colds 13. Body brushing - will look for a brush when I go to buy whitening toothpaste and coconut oil 14. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week. - will start off with once a week 15. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM. - get up at 5.30 so already in bed early 16. Regular hair removal - already do underarms and legs, might need to do down below if I start swimming 17. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps - definitely need to do this, am trying to cut down as want to lose weight 18. No more fizzy drinks - very rarely drink fizzy drinks 19. DAILY body moisturising - have loads of moisturisers 20. Warm water with lemon first thing in the a.m. - not sure about the lemon as have sensitive teeth??

  1. Take off make up properly every night and use night cream - am always tired so sometimes fall into bed with make up on, or use a baby wipe
  2. Wear perfume everyday - have been doing this for the last few months, it makes me feel good

When working through the list, I have been surprised how much stuff I have but don't use on a regular basis.

LauraShigihara · 11/09/2012 17:34

I am now the proud owner of a Boots Body Brush - it looks huge and scratchy, and is now hanging menacingly on the bathroom door. I have cuticle oil, vitamins, coconut hair oil (although I am a bit worried how it will be with my oily scalp) and more body lotion and a new necklace and some skinny jeans

Roll on Saturday, I'm ready.

Adding perfume everyday to my list to thankyou greedycow

NotNeeemo · 11/09/2012 20:01

Thanks for the welcome helgaSmile have bought lots doing the great north run on Sunday so will start properly on Monday Grin

gnomealone · 11/09/2012 20:33

helga thanks for the tips - i will get the nail file thingy when I can.

realised i have got one more question (promise!) Anybody have recommendations for a cheapish body moisturiser that doesn't have parabens etc in it. Doesn't have to be totally organic but just want one without the worst offenders in it

once that is sorted i am good to go. My shred is meant to arrive on sat. I do know walking will be out for me by sunday of course

KateSpade · 12/09/2012 20:04

Have booked in to get my hair done & extensions put back in. So excited.

Will be purchasing embriolyss moisturiser, later this evening aswell.

& Bought a new nail varnish, as my wraps have already come away at the edges.

& am possibly going to manchester on Sunday to get some new clothes! So excited! :)

WhyIRayLiotta · 12/09/2012 21:47

OK... so here is my list. I am going to print it out and put it on the fridge and inside my wardrobe so I can tick things off!

  1. 8 glasses of filtered water a day
  2. Exfoliate (everything...within reason)
  3. Use teeth whitener I have crest strips that I've never really bothered with
  4. Use anti-aging face cream already do when I can be arsed but will add in night cream

  6. Use eyelash growth serum OR eye cream will buy eyelash serum - Think I'll go for the Mavala one Helga mentioned.
  7. The Shred / other intensive exercise. I have started Couch to 5K... I bought the shred - but I am gonna wait a few weeks until my fitness improves. I will aim to continue with the C25K and walk every day
  8. At least 2 extra fruit & veg every day
  9. Healthy breakfast daily. Any suggestions? I don't like porridge or eggs Blush
10. Use hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc) will get the coconut oil from superdrug 11. No alcohol during the week & no boozing it up on weekends 12. Take vitamins every day 13. Body brushing How often should I be doing this? - does it have to be done pre shower? could I do it before bed? (or is that icky!?) I don't have much showering time in the morning to be faffing about body brushing. 14. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week. nope. 15. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM. will try. go back to work after maternity leave in 4 weeks - and work shifts so early nights will be tricky 16. Regular hair removal 17. I am also going to add...
21. Prepare clothes the night before and iron them! (Stole this off sillymillyb!)

BookFairy · 12/09/2012 23:11

I'm gearing up to start but my feet are not looking good - any suggestions?
I'm also looking for a night time eye cream from the no petro chemicals etc world.

The big question is should I get The Shred? I could commit to twice a week but any more and I'll fail at the first hurdle and feel guilty, which will lead to emotional snacking!

Helpful nail painting hints thank you lurking

I'm on my phone so I'll type my list tomorrow. My main aims are to treat myself better (earlier to bed, eat healthier, exercise more etc), give more compliments to others and accept graciously any I may receive ie. 'Thank you for saying I look nice' instead of 'No I look a mess'!
