Fritzi Hello!!

Mig Vogue comes from the French voguer - to sail forth.

Hi there.

Am so delighted you've continued this. I don't want to sound sycophantic, but really you lot are better than Vogue, cos Vogue is full of non-real, perfect women who have never had a child wee on them, and say everything is fab. While you are real, and will say if an item of clothing is disappointing, fabric is poor, good/bad value etc, as well as the good bits. Just saying.

I have 3 things I bought and loved and worn this summer. A Whistles navy dress (sale), can't find it online, this zara blazer which is genius, because it's navy and black, and I've had loads of wear put of it and intend to wear it over the winter too, and this scarf print blazer, which is a bit busy, but I completely love it. All very ordinary, but worth a mention as I've had so much wear out of them.

Mignonette, hide the threads if you don't like them, there's a history there to explain the title. Or stick around and treat us to your aspiration.

Well, mignonette, your NN is a derivative of the French for sweet so I guess none of us are living us to our titles.

Read Vogue, Wonderland and Love. Plenty of inspiration and aspiration. The threads are interesting especially the threads discussing colour and/or fabric trends. They are the most interesting fashion story, especially the way in which designers are developing brand new fabrics and bonding together existing ones to interesting effect. Another reason why designers' are now developing these innovative fabrics, treatments and manufacturing techniques, is to thwart High St 'design teams' who simply cannot produce copies at their price points.

As for the high street, my issue regarding the en masse copying of the work of others' is this- what other industry suffers such plagiarism without any recourse?

Quite frequently, one goes into high st stores and sees facsimile copies of designer garments. There is no need for this- it's lazy.

Buy less, buy better. And make these high st plagiarisers actually design.

Do you think if we ignore it, it will go away?

Oh fuck off mignonette.

I appreciate that's lazy, uninspired and boring. But really. Do.

a bit belated, and very very boring but my best buy last season were some cropped straight leg (love skinnies but they just look a bit... odd... on me) dark levi's curve jeans. Wore/ wear them to death and sooo much better for my post-DD tum.

I don't know if I'm ready for A/W, still so much summer stuff not worn! Although I do LOVE cobalt (hf thanks for the link to the trend sheet) so am excited about that :) I had an amazing cobalt tailored shift from LKB that has been ruined, so hunting for a replacement for that...

Mint cobalt is everywhere, isn't it? Such a beautiful colour, wish I could wear it.

Oh FGS, mignonette did it ever occur to you that some people simply cant afford Mary Katrantzou, never mind it being practical for their lifestyle.

Maybe that high street copy, of which you are so derisive, is the nearest they will ever get to owning the genuine article. Buy less, buy better is all very well and good, but if one item is your annual clothes budget gone, what are you going to do for the rest of the week? Walk around naked?

Aspiration is something different to everyone. Some people aspire to look like the girls from TOWIE, some people aspire to look like the Middletons. None of them are wrong, diversity is interesting, it should be celebrated. This is just a safe space for like minded folk to talk about clothes, not to sneer at their choices, so join in or butt out.

I am talking about using designs as a leaping off point- as inspiration rather than buying slavish copies of an original which is what you will find in many low-price point stores.

Would you like to be plagiarised? To have your work (which in the case of many apparently successful designers) is not that profitable without a scent line, copied?

And as for hopefully.....your comments make you unworthy of embolding. Trash talk. Just trash.

mignonette · 17/08/2012 12:41

And you do not have to buy a high end designer original to buy clothing that has an original twist of it's own and does not rip off and steal from a hard working designer and his team...

Ah fritzi I am a master of that technique. The bedroom is currently home to a mountain of unironed shirts after MIL's visit. Good luck, hope you have Wine on standby.

in case fritzi's parents are reading this, I'm sure you are lovely people, is just preparing for guests is stressful, isn't it?

So, mignonette, where would you advise the people who popularise the 'low price point stores' to turn their attention to. Bearing in mind that any audience of this thread is likely to be relatively time-poor also, given the realities of life with children?

I don't like all the nastiness!!! Where has the happy thread gone where people found me bargain 811s and suggested holiday destinations for my first trip abroad???? Why why why has this happened??

blue back to shoes i think the kurt geiger ones would work with opaques. But am waiting for the next size to be delivered as too small in normal size!

I think it must be national act like an arsehole week, or something, always. I must say I'm finding it immensely tedious.

That's fortunate fritzi, my mother has yet to master the art of sending a text, and MIL types her password into the search box google home page when trying to access her emails, so I think I'm safe.

amber my mum called me at 10pm on a friday night a couple of weeks ago. I was a bit panicked to get the call (my dad is not very well). Turns out she wanted to play a CD and wasn't sure why it wasn't working (she'd put it in the blu ray player). ok really going now.

Oooh, pretty dress. Why is it whenever I see a lace overlay dress I think 'that would look nice on Red? Did you wear one to MU?

If I was rich enough to spend hundreds on casual t-shirts I would totally buy this McQueen
