Are white linen trousers frumpy?

PetiteMum · 31/07/2012 17:23

I bought a cropped pair and am now wondering if it was a mistake. Not sure what to wear them with either

I'm not a fan personally, but if you like them then wear them with pride Smile
Sod frumpy Grin

Windsock · 31/07/2012 17:29

Yes. They let you get fat too. Like Jeggings.
Are the trouser of the choice of the drone who shops at Shite Stuff

MadAboutHotChoc · 31/07/2012 17:30

yes, sorry.

nkf · 31/07/2012 17:33

Are they? I had no idea.

BunnyLebowski · 31/07/2012 17:35

Is the pope a catholic??

Do bears shit in the woods??

Does Dolly Parton sleep on her back??

You get my drift.

nkf · 31/07/2012 17:37

What makes them frumpy? The whiteness? The linen? The croppedness?

MadAboutHotChoc · 31/07/2012 17:38

Everything about the style - these make me think of grannies on cruises.

MissWooWoo · 31/07/2012 17:39

shapeless

OwlLady · 31/07/2012 17:40

can't you just dye them?

i don't really buy white anything though as i am filthy

OwlLady · 31/07/2012 17:40

get even

nkf · 31/07/2012 17:40

Ok. But linen is a lovely fabric so it can't be that. I agree the length seems a waste of time.

noddyholder · 31/07/2012 17:41

I have a pair of 70s style flares which I love. Not elasticated though but sit low on hip good with heels and a tan

BunnyLebowski · 31/07/2012 17:43

It's the fact that they're so ubiquitous. The Summer uniform of frumpy mums.

And in most cases you can see the wearers knickers. Yack.

noddyholder · 31/07/2012 17:50

I think most sane people have stopped with the tie waist short ones. I don't think those ever looked good.

KatieisScarlettinSpandex · 31/07/2012 17:52

Linen is a horrible fabric for clothes.

Creases to fuck when on, goes baggy.

Guaranteed to make you look like a dishrag within 20 mins of wearing.

And then you have to iron the fuckers.

Cool

I think that they can look good BUT you need;

  1. Small bum
  2. Longish legs
  3. decent quality troos
  4. to wear them with something on trend that summer

Otherwise they look crappy and I think that cropped are hard to pull off whatever.

noddyholder · 31/07/2012 18:03

Like those first ones. I wear loads of little white linen tops but I like the creases

nkf · 31/07/2012 18:13

I like the second pair but not the first. Love linen.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 31/07/2012 18:20

And, MissBeehiving, don't forget, you need appropriate pants. ie not red, frilly or polkadot.

DizzyGoldBee · 31/07/2012 18:22

Oh dear, I just bought some for a holiday in a Hot Place...too late now :(

I've got a long shirt to wear with them, it will cover up my ample derriere won't it?! lol

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 31/07/2012 18:38

Oh God, yes the PANTS!

PetiteMum · 31/07/2012 18:58

So what do stylish people wear on holiday?

OP posts:
Silibilimili · 31/07/2012 19:16

I thought I looked very fashionable in my white linen trousers, (nude under wear), sparkly sandals, and a long linen tunic. Not te ones mums buy but the styles that say I have been to India and can do native/summer clothes without looking like a Brit abroad. Grin
But what do I know!Blush

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 31/07/2012 19:20

Cropped linen trousers are fine if you are about 65. (cropped trousers should be like capri pants imo, not baggy and flappy like linen ones)

White linen full lenght look fine if you are size 10 and about 6 foot tall. Otherwise I think they make people look fat and frumpy.

out2lunch · 31/07/2012 19:22

he he amother

i was just going to post that my dm has been umming and ahhing about some but decided against as too frumpy for her and she is exactly that age
