I bought a cropped pair and am now wondering if it was a mistake. Not sure what to wear them with either

Nude pants. Beige ones. It's not the item. It's the baddy arse fatty thing. And white stuff. Abd Birkenstocks

ATourchOfInsanity · 01/08/2012 02:11

I never thought I would have to buy nude pants in order to AVOID frumpy Confused
I am clearly out of touch.

PerryCombover · 01/08/2012 04:02

Cropped unless very careful is hell
White lien trews ditto
Cropped white linen trews....I'd say ghastly but there must be exceptions

Nude knickers and bras under white please

OBface · 01/08/2012 07:28

Actually Chandon pyjama trousers are fully on trend so maybe silk wouldn't be a bad option much better than a bad pair of linen atrocities

Having said that, not all linen is equal and there some decent linen pieces out there if you look.

TeamGBIWI · 01/08/2012 08:11

Mine are for Barbados where it will be hot!

And absolutely nothing frumpy about nude/beige underwear - it makes your outer clothes look so much better.

Also better when the arse under the trousers is toned. (And after almost 6 months of gym-going I'm hoping mine is taut enough Grin)

DizzyGoldBee · 01/08/2012 09:40

OK, I give up, I'm taking my black and my navy linen trousers instead, the white ones can go back to the shop!!

TeamGBIWI · 01/08/2012 10:13

Noooooooooooo!!!! Don't give in to the fashionistas!

RandomUsername · 01/08/2012 21:49

I love white linen trousers, ive just bought some off ebay and im not frumpy, im 25 and a size 8.

I wear mine with a vest top, usually black or red.

I think it is all about how you wear them. I have some very baggy black linen trousers, they look cool with a tight vest top and another one layered iyswim, and nice bracelet.

Teamed with a baggy top would be a no-no, too much all baggy and frumpy.

I think, if you feel cool and comfortable on holiday, you are bound to look nicer than if you feel all hot and sweaty and tight... bleaurgh :)

Peeenut · 02/08/2012 09:41

White linen trousers, teamed with a short top, that shows a huge arse trying to wobble it's way out in the shopping mall = NO

Somewhere hot and worn with a nicely fitted top = yes

I've just ordered some black ones for my holiday, I know they're not inspiring and boring. We're away for 3 weeks and there will be times I'll want long trousers but the mummsynetty uniform of skinny jeans, wedges and a jaunty scarf would be uncomfortable and silly.

mollymole · 02/08/2012 09:50

Nicely fitted full length linen trousers - I like. I do not wear/like the draw string waist look, or the stuffed up the bum look.

I wear them with a fitted top, nude under pants etc.

NEVER, EVER cropped, elastic waisted, tied top trousers of any description !!

No doubt I don't meet the mumsnet criteria, but I am 5ft 2" and size 10 and I don't care what you think.

GnocchiNineDoors · 02/08/2012 11:28

I am wearing my white linen trousers today so ner ner.

With a grey/blue t-shirt and black flip flops.

[sticks tongue out emoticon]

Sonnet · 02/08/2012 12:34

Well I am wearing well fitting full length white linen trousers (not drawstring) with a fitted Navy silk t.shirt, silver flip flops and a sliver necklace - I have had compliments today- so there Grin

heroutdoors · 02/08/2012 15:32

And, let's not forget that the creased linen look is strictly for uncreased faces!

PoshPaula · 02/08/2012 20:46

I wear white linen trousers every summer and look great in them (modest, yes - that's me).

Armi · 02/08/2012 21:28

I'm a size 18. I wear white linen trousers (full length, good quality, with nude coloured knickers) and if you don't like how I look in them you can kiss my fat arse. Grin

MaeMobley · 02/08/2012 22:24

They look frumpy with FitFlops and Birkenstocks.

DamonSalvatoreIsMyLoveSlave · 02/08/2012 22:32

Grin at Armi

I don't have any myself anymore as I have gone off them (for the reasons stated above as they do seem a bit mumsy to me now!) but I don't think they look too bad if they are good quality well cut ones with the correct underwear underneath (yes to nude knickers!). I would wear a slim fitting top with them too.

Wear them if you like them, ballbags to everyone else.

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 08:44

Says who, Mae?! I can't bear this judging of other people. So you don't like it. So what? What's it to you?

MaeMobley · 03/08/2012 13:46

Says me (I?) TeamGBIWI!!! The OP asked and I gave my opinion.

Ameliagrey · 03/08/2012 14:58

I think they look okay in very specific circumstances- such as on holiday when it's hot, with flat sandals, if they are tailored not drawstring, and if no thong or knicker line shows- why is it that women don't look at their bums in the mirror when they wear white linen trousers?
You don't need a PhD in fashion to spot your knickers showing through!

I don't they they look good in your average UK town, on a busy Saturday in Tescos etc.

And generally they are worn IME by women who are too large to wear vast expanses of white around their rear ends.

QueenMaeve · 03/08/2012 19:49

I love mine. Paul Costelloe, good thick linen. Very stylish I am.

racingheart · 04/08/2012 20:13

So tell us then. What are 50 year old chubby arsed women supposed to wear in summer. Or will anyone over size 8 be dismissed as frumpy?
What's stylish in hot weather for a 5'4", size 12 woman aged 50?

TeamGBIWI · 04/08/2012 20:44

Nothing, racingheart. We are doomed, clearly.
