Are white linen trousers frumpy?

I bought a cropped pair and am now wondering if it was a mistake. Not sure what to wear them with either

The problem I have with the second pic is the t shirt. Looks good with that pose in the photo but walking around normally like that would look ridiculous. If walking normally, would look cheap, specially of one is a little on the chubby side....

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 31/07/2012 19:25

Do not even mention the Next linen trousers.

I have some slim fitting white ones from DPS (but I have very long legs)

Chandon · 31/07/2012 19:29

asking if you look frumpy in anything, will make people say you do...I think.

only YOU know OP, wear what you feel comfy in.

and remember, on the other end of the scale of frumpy is the fashion victim who struts around a hot country in too tight on trend clothes and toe pinching Louboutins Wink

DizzyGoldBee · 31/07/2012 19:46

Ah well, I can do the nearly 6 foot tall bit but not the size 10. Not 65 either! I give up, at least I won't be too hot!!! No comment about looking fat, I do that without the help of linen trousers!

EvenBetter · 31/07/2012 20:14

When I see women wearing them I always get a weird pang of sympathy-no idea why- they're always teamed with a kaftan type top, fake/cruise tan and the back of the tea towel-esque trousers are always jammed up the wearers arse!!
(don't know why I've noticed this, maybe because women aged 50+ seem to wear trousers hoiked up really high, plus, anyone wearing White trousers is inviting people to look at their underwear choice)

PetiteMum · 31/07/2012 20:41

Cringe

I know I'm frumpy but I didn't realise how much.

GnocchiNineDoors · 31/07/2012 20:43

I wear long white linen trousers, with flip flops and a nice navy T.

I certianly don't think I look frumpy.

I would look very frumpy in cropped trousers of any description so I avoid like the plague.

Bunbaker · 31/07/2012 21:13

"maybe because women aged 50+ seem to wear trousers hoiked up really high,"

Oh no we don't! Grin

I have a pair of cropped white cotton trousers that I only wear in hot weather (I haven't worn them this year yet). I am size 10 and 5'7" - and quite frankly I don't care if they are the height of fashion or not, I think they suit me.

ninah · 31/07/2012 21:18

I have just bought some to blend in in the staffroom

ninah · 31/07/2012 21:18

they are not cropped though and I check the rear view

Windsock · 31/07/2012 21:44

With Birkenstocks. Yup

TeamGBIWI · 31/07/2012 21:50

Hah! I bought some the other day, thinking (as I paid for them), Mumsnet will savage me for this!

But:

Size 10 (and slightly loose rather than straining at the seams!)
Long - and proportionately I am longer of leg than body
I promise not to wear white underwear or, worse, a thong

But I can't promise not to wear my birkies with them Grin

trixymalixy · 31/07/2012 21:56

All linen is frumpy, without exception.

Chandon · 31/07/2012 22:07

Trust me, in a hot hot country, linen makes sense.

Silk is even cooler though in hot weather, but I guess silk trousers would look like pjs!

PetiteMum · 31/07/2012 22:16

Chandon, this is my point... What else can be worn in a hot country? Certainly not skinnies! And it's soooo hard to find a nice maxi that isn't made of polyester!

MrsBucketxx · 31/07/2012 22:19

i have a pair and team them with bright vest tops with a scarf. i wouldn't say i look frumpy at all.

i am 6 foot and a size 12 so nearly meet the non frumpy standard.

i would never where a kaftan yuk yuk

Viperidae · 31/07/2012 22:19

FFS WILL YOU ALL STOP IT!!!! You are gradually working through the contents of my wardrobe with your frumpy lists.

And I thought I was well dressed and classic Sad

MrsBucketxx · 31/07/2012 22:21

i know i love my bootcuts and apparently thats frumpy now :(

Windsock · 31/07/2012 22:24

NOw? About 5 years ago

trixymalixy · 31/07/2012 22:25

The shorter version of this maxi is what I wore to death on holiday. It's very lightweight. They had nicer prints in store in the sale when I was in a week or so ago.

Silibilimili · 01/08/2012 00:08

I'd rather wear white linen trousers than skinny jeans in hot weather. Hmm
Cropped trousers I agree look very odd.

Windsock · 01/08/2012 00:45

It's not hot. What's with the hot crap

PetiteMum · 01/08/2012 01:50

Windsock, theyre for wearing on holiday......

OP posts:
ATourchOfInsanity · 01/08/2012 01:54

Nooo! They can't be! I'm a size 10 and 5ft 9...does that mean I can wear them?
Bit confused as to what we are meant to wear under them though if white knickers and thongs are a no-no? Surely big black pants are worse?!

Tbh I need to get my arse in gear around to ironing them first...
