My name is Season and I'm a sizzler. I'm on my second diy course of Glycolic Acid 30%.

Sign in here if you're using GA, SA, LA, or MA, or indeed some new hardcore A with a mellow melt and searing sizzle. Smile

If you look back on this thread there is a whole section on the dermaroller. I posted under bewitchedandbewildered when I joined but name changed because there is already a bewitchedbotheredandbewildered on mn. I buy my dermarollers from ebay. I buy in batches of 10 which works out at £7 each.

MissFoodie · 20/05/2012 12:45

Does that mean you only use them once each time then?

RetroMom · 20/05/2012 12:49

No. I use mine 4 or 5 times before they're blunt and then swop for a new one.

thenightsky · 20/05/2012 20:50

2nd sizzle done today... I went for 4 mins. I can see improvements in nose to mouth crevices!

I have switched to applying with a smaller, stubbier brush so I can really work it into my deep crevices.

Beckamaw · 20/05/2012 23:15

Unlurking to tell that this is unacceptable! I just spent £70 on that website after your recommendations!Blush
Dermarollers I have been doing for a while. Highly recommend them. I have an evil hardcore one which I did use monthly with great results. I also have the Medik8 Titanium roller. It's good IMHO but there are mixed reviews about titanium.

This is a good link for info: owndoc.com/dermarolling/dermaroller-review/
Also, prepping the skin with vitamin C serum makes it much more effective. I buy a jar of Solgar crystals which I dissolve as I need them. It lasts ages and is always super fresh and effective. Only costs about a tenner and you use it about twice a week.
The vitamin C serum is the simplest, cheapest and most effective skincare tip ever. Vit C deteriorates in skincare products so the only way to really make it work is by dissolving crystals in hot water and using immediately.

thenightsky · 20/05/2012 23:18

Beckamaw Do the rollers make you look like you've been stabbed though? I need to go to work the next morning and don't want to look freaky [worried]

Beckamaw · 21/05/2012 00:14

The hardcore ones draw blood, bloody hurt and you can't/ shouldn't wear any makeup for a few days afterwards. Not ideal!
The 0.2-0.3 should not draw blood. They smart a bit unless you use EMLA numbing cream beforehand. You look red for a couple of hours but if you roller at night you look OK in the morning. Honest!

ggirl · 21/05/2012 07:43

beckamaw-how long do you leave the vit c crystals on for?

ggirl · 21/05/2012 07:50

have ordered vit c crystals............baaaaaaaaaaa

Beckamaw · 21/05/2012 10:41

Just pat the serum on your face and leave it. Moisturizer on top. No need to wash off. Smile

MissFoodie · 21/05/2012 12:12

becka the dermik8 is the one the facialist used on me, do you use this or another one? and where do you buy from? thx

ggirl · 21/05/2012 14:04

so what do you mix the vit c crystals with to make a serum?

Beckamaw · 21/05/2012 14:26

I use the Medik8 Titanium but I've since heard that the steel are supposed to be more acceptable to the skin than titanium. Never had a problem with mine and it was bloody expensive so I'll keep with it! Wink
It was this one:
innercore.co.uk/Medik8-Titanium-Dermaroller-Personal-Use-0.2mm.html

I have an evil one with huge needles that I bought from Sarah at Owndoc.com
They are excellent and well priced. She also sells small bags of vitamin C powder and has loads of info on techniques and roller types.

The vitamin C serum is easy. Just dissolve a quarter of a teaspoon in a little bit of hot water and voila. That's all you need! It stays in the skin for 4 days or so, then you can repeat.
There is advice about making up batches to refrigerate in small airtight pots. Then you have to wrap in foil to keep light away. And it's still ineffective after 5 days!

So I just make it as I need it.

It's fabulous stuff. Great for scars, healing etc. I often chuck a couple of teaspoons in the bath too.

MissFoodie · 21/05/2012 14:46

ggirl Grin
becka yes, the dermik8 is the one I saw, will check out the other site, am just a bit concerned about buying off ebay....
so you also use the evil one that leaves you with a punctured face??? :-O

ggirl · 21/05/2012 14:52

god i feel i may have to think about the face stabbing idea too ...baaaa

MissFoodie · 21/05/2012 14:59

I know.....Clarisonic....Bravura...Dermarolling....what's next?

MissFoodie · 21/05/2012 15:04

becka btw does the titanium one not require sterilising/cleaning if it doesn't pierce the skin?

Beckamaw · 21/05/2012 16:28

It's really hard to explain!
The 2mm one leaves you with obvious holes and blood! They heal fast but it's unpleasant. We have EMLA cream because DP is a tattooist. It helps!
I haven't used it in a while as DD3 is 10 weeks old and you shouldn't use it whilst pregnant. It's a PITA to be honest because you look obviously punctured and can't wear makeup for a few days to hide it!!

The titanium one does puncture the skin but only draws blood if you press very hard. It's a bit trial and error. You do look very glowy after a few uses but the effect is not immediate. You still need the alcohol spray stuff to disinfect. I am told you can also put them in a dishwasher to disinfect, but I haven't done it.
The theory is that the skin produces collagen to repair the damage. No pain, no gain I suppose.

MissFoodie · 21/05/2012 16:33

Think she used the dermik8 0.1 or 0.2 on me, whichever is the smallest, tingled but no "holes", could def feel the GA afterwards!

RetroMom · 21/05/2012 17:27

I use the 0.5mm on my face and the 1.5mm on my boobs and tummy. The 0.5 doesn't leave obvious holes either, though it does leave you looking sunburned for a few hours after using it.

FoxPass · 24/05/2012 10:17

If the needles are too short to draw blood they can still help with product penetration. I've bought a roller off here after doing some research:

www.dr-roller-shop.com/dr-roller

Not tried mine yet as need a vit c serum, will be trying the crystals :)

I've seen some really gory pics after using a 2mm roller. The idea is that the skin is damaged by it therefore produces collagen to heal, which is the result you want. You don't have to do it often, as you want your skin to go through the inflammation and healing process fully.

FreeButtonBee · 24/05/2012 10:25

Sooo, I have just done Week 2 GA30%.

First week, left it for 3 mins, this week, 4 mins. I have been religious about leaving skin for 30 mins after cleansing/only doing it once a week/double neutralising etc. Very little stinging - apart from a tiny spot on a mole that I have. The neutraliser does sing a bit though!

It's weird, up close my skin doesn't look amazing or perfect but it is much smoother and makeup goes on like a dream - and I need much less (and I don't slap it on as it is). Blackheads on nose smaller and tighter although not totally gone. I was starting to get a tiny bit of 11s but these have completely gone now. Generally, I look a bit more glowy (although no bugger has actually noticed - am seeing my mum next week and she always comments so that will be the litmus test!)

Also gave my decolletage a go last time (3 mins) and that seems to have really evened out the texture. Next time am going to do the back of my arms to see if it'll help the KP that I have there (although got sucked into buying the GA 12% body lotion which doesn't seem to have done that much so far...)

MissFoodie · 24/05/2012 11:10

foxpass which roller did you get?
freebuttonbee sounds good! i'll be ordering my GA next week, had pro facial last week so waiting a bit to see what happens!

SeaHouses · 24/05/2012 17:53

Can somebody please advise me which acid to get? I have got large pores (although not oily) but am also 40, so don't know if I show go for GA or SA. Would some please explain the difference?
