New thread for chatting. Oh and swapping S&B tips.

Having a manic day here - INSET day at school and I have 7 kids (inc my 3) over for lunch. While also trying to "work from home" and talk to removal people.

Happy birthday Ruby Grin Have some more Prosecco! Here's wishing you and Siri a long and productive relationship Grin

TheReturnOfStropperella · 08/07/2012 20:57

Ds's entire school are going to see the Olympic torch on, um, whatever day it's passing through (maybe next Friday). Maybe I should put away my cynicism for 5 mins and go and have a look as well.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/07/2012 21:31

Happy Birthday Ruby!

I have just had a quick look at my work emails as tomorrow is going to be horribly busy. I have one from my boss saying "see me" - it is attached to an email from a member of my team, that has clearly displeased him. It's like being back at primary school, FFS!

Blackduck · 08/07/2012 22:46

Happy birthday Ruby..I luuuvvvve my iPhone and iPad (but dont have Siri - old iPhone
MrsS can you channel your inner teen and be all surly and 'Kevin and Perry'? As you feel you are being 'called up'?? He really is an arse...

bigTillyMint · 09/07/2012 06:23

Happy Birth-yester-day RubySmile iphone, eh - worth saving on all the S&B for thatWink

Yes, weird weather - I managed to get 10 13yo's (well 3 aren't quite 13 yet) up tp South Bank, onto Eye and back without getting wet. Quite a sunny spell, actually. DH was less lucky - he had to do the bbq under a brolly!

MrsS, be as surly as you like as you're leaving?Wink

Just about recovered from living hell that was DS's birthday party. 25 adults, 13 children, raining, mildly disapproving grandparents, MiL bringing vast selection of random food, unasked, and of course a meltdown from the thoroughly overwhelmed birthday boy, who cried at his cake then retired to his bed and refused to come out.

On the plus side, pass the parcel was a hit, getting the grown ups to wear false moustaches proved amusing, and we ended up with a net gain if booze.

S&B wise, I wore my, what I thought, was my super-flattering sains dress, and the first thing my dad said on coming in was 'you've put on weight'. Gr7.

bigTillyMint · 09/07/2012 10:02

Herbs Gr7 Grin

At least you've got a year to recover!

motherinferior · 09/07/2012 19:22

Ho Hemm Gee.

I am the same age as one of my colleagues'....

mother.

Am ancient crinkly relic, innit.

bigTillyMint · 09/07/2012 19:35

It's not just you, MI!

TheReturnOfStropperella · 09/07/2012 19:46

Hah! I narrowly (by a mere year) missed teaching the mother of one of ds's best mates. Some of her friends still owe me homework (15 years down the line, but still). This makes me feel v. old. Well, this and a few other things.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 09/07/2012 19:51

BTM, my dd would be Envy if she knew about b'day celebrations on the London Eye.
Herbs, do you live in a mansion? 38 people? I can fit about 6 in my sitting-room before getting to the crisps starts to involve poking someone in the eye with your elbow. OK, maybe I might be able to fit in a few more if most of them were 3 years old.

motherinferior · 09/07/2012 19:53

Actually I am a year older than her mum.

And my mum is coming back at the weekend and I shall have to be Supportive.

And I have option of continuing in current post but am trying to work out how I can present this firmly as part-time as it's all driving me a bit do-lally, combining job AND freelancing AND kids. I should point out here that on the freelancing front this year I have kept going a regular feature for a charity mag every month, a small bit of charity editing, a solid chunk of assessing for [http://www.cloresocialleadership.org.uk/ this lot]] which I've just completed, and finishing this book. Have also landed a small feature on HVs which I should now crack on with...

motherinferior · 09/07/2012 19:54

assessing.

bigTillyMint · 09/07/2012 19:58

Stropps, you can fit in loads if they aren't sitting down, even in a London Victorian terraced houseWink

Talking of London houses, did anyone watch the fabulous Secret History of our Streets?

MI, come on, you can juggle it allGrin

TheReturnOfStropperella · 09/07/2012 20:19

MI, I have no idea how you even do half of the stuff you do. I can't even manage my freelancing (such as it is) and domestic duties. I am frequently to be found gibbering in the corner as it is.

When do you sleep? :)

TheReturnOfStropperella · 09/07/2012 20:28

Dh is having his exploratory op on Thursday, which means that I will have to take on all his usual duties for Wed, Thurs and Fri and enroll my mother's help for childminding on Thurs. It was very decent of my mother to offer (and I don't have any better offers) but I am not sure of how well it will all go. Depends how reasonable the dcs are feeling. They have neither of them been their most reasonable of late. Ds has finally clocked the "cancer" part of the shituation and is very concerned about whether or not he will get a bald dad. We have reassured him that this is not, currently, likely to happen. And have kept very quiet about everything else.

motherinferior · 09/07/2012 20:37

It's MrsS I'm in awe of Grin

Stropps, how is DH at the moment?

TheReturnOfStropperella · 09/07/2012 20:38

Nope, MI, the more I think about it, the more I don't know how you do it. How do you do it? And how does MrsS do it?

TheReturnOfStropperella · 09/07/2012 20:40

Ah, dh is feeling a bit odd. He is very worried about the actual brachytherapy. He is in the weird situation of feeling perfectly well now, but knowing that he will not feel perfectly well post brachytherapy at the beginning of August. Plus, he has to give up caffeine and alcohol for the foreseeable, which is really depressing the poor old bugger.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 09/07/2012 20:42

And the fact that I keep gibbering around the place, going "But we have no money and we are going to staaaaaarrrrve" is probably not helping Grin

motherinferior · 09/07/2012 20:45

I don't have a madly demanding day job. And I don't errr really do housework Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/07/2012 20:57

I am a complete slut and I get a bit sweary. I also say "no" a lot more than I used to, and delegate tremendously at work.

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/07/2012 20:58

Oh and my boss would probably tell you that I am not very good at my job, either. Angry

motherinferior · 09/07/2012 21:02

Your boss, MrsS, is a Arse.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 09/07/2012 21:03

But we have already established that your boss is a Grade A Arse, MrsS. His opinion is therefore worth diddly-squat.

I also get v. sweary but this has only resulted in my children thinking that "oh buggery bollocks" is fine to say in all situations. Blush
