New thread for chatting. Oh and swapping S&B tips.

Having a manic day here - INSET day at school and I have 7 kids (inc my 3) over for lunch. While also trying to "work from home" and talk to removal people.

Oooh, I really like that dress, BTM...it's very similar to quite a lot of things in my wardrobe, so I obviously need it Wink

I need prayers and support as I need to buy a swimsuit Sad and it's not going to be pretty. I have been putting it off, but the holiday is looming large, as is my tummy...

Three way mirrors, here I come....

TheReturnOfStropperella · 02/07/2012 19:57

Nice dress, BTM. I can imagine you looking very elegant in it.

MI, well done on your Good Daughterness.

My ma was over for dd's birthday lunch yesterday. She did not look well (my mother, I mean, not dd) and although she has volunteered to have the dcs to stay whilst dh is in hospital, I am not sure how she will deal with it. Also, she has announced that one of her cataracts is "much worse" so I am not really thrilled at the idea of her driving them anywhere. Hmm.

Am feeling very morose, as I didn't get a sniff of an interview for a job I really wanted and I suspect it's because I just look like a ridiculous old bat on my CV. Have not had a positive reaction to my CV anytime in recent years. I am both over-qualified and under-qualified at the same time, self-employed for too long (apparently) and seemingly have no hope of getting the main-bread-winner job I really need. I am booking slots with companies that provide training for the jobless in basic IT, but obviously I will have to pay for the basic IT courses (fair enough). I just bloody wish I had never done a stupid, stupid languages degree. I shall only end up with a minimum wage job if I am lucky. And that means that we may well have to move out of the area, except I have no idea where we might go. I have been trying to address these concerns for years, but dh has always said "It will work out fine" etc. Except now it won't.

bigTillyMint · 02/07/2012 21:23

beachy, I'm thinking new cozzie too - linkies please if you find aything!

Stropps, I don't think I've ever been described as elegant beforeGrin

Oh Stropps {{{big hugs}}} one of my old friends (lost contact now, sadly) left teaching (languages) to do something else - will wrack my brains and DH's to remember what....

herbaceous · 03/07/2012 08:48

Hi hags

Sorry I've been a bad crepey - seem to have been mad busy of late, and when I'm not busy I'm tipping shit into a toilet. Or else DS has taken over the computer.

Strops - nil desperandum. Or something. The darkest hour is before the dawn. You'll get an interview for something unexpected, and be brill.

What news. S&B: bought four jumper/cardis in the Gap sale for £40! Still using my S&B Hope in a Jar, three months in, even though it's supposed to be for 21 days only. Not sure why the time limit - it's making me look young and lovely. Ish.

Having DS's third birthday party on Saturday. Something of an organisational blunder. DP initially refused to host one again, as it was too much hassle and money. So I looked into other venues. All booked. Then he saw a birthday cake made by another dad at a party, reckoned he could do better, so then said we could have a party, but just a small one. Now he hasn't got time to make a cake, so I've got to track one down, and we've got 30 people coming. And it's going to rain.

Blackduck · 03/07/2012 12:16

Oh Stropps - big hug....

On cossie front I bought this (hides a multitude of sins) The other one I bought isn't on the website.

CointreauVersial · 03/07/2012 13:20

Strops - sorry you are feeling down. Is there any way you can inject some pizzazz into your CV by rewriting it in some way? I know you can tap into some good advice on CV techniques so you display your strengths to their best advantage, and this might at least get you to interview (when you can wow them with your snazzy interview trews and jacket!).

BD - nice cossie, I reckon M&S must shift thousands of those. I bought one recently at the swimming pool because I realised that although I have several gaudy bikinis/tankinis I didn't actually possess anything I could adequately swim in. Let alone tackle a waterslide at an aquapark. Blush

Herbs - please tell me you haven't invited 30 3-year-olds..... I remember with horrifying clarity DS's 3rd birthday party; we seriously over-reached ourselves, teaming up with three ante-natal chums with similar-aged kids, and inviting the entire 3-yo population of the local area. We booked the village hall, which had a large room (for bouncy castle and variety of ride-on toys and games) and a smaller room (for food), but a last-minute mix-up on the booking left us with everything crammed into the small hall. It was mayhem; kids trampled underfoot, carnage on the inflatable, sweating parents, tears, snot, orange squash.......

But hey, I'm sure you'll have a lovely day.....Grin

S&B-wise, I had a great haul from the local charity shop last week, including a lovely black linen Jigsaw tunic, a really pretty M&S work shirt (£3) and a pair of immaculate, unworn walking boots (£15) - mine having given up the ghost after 20 years use. And I ordered shed-loads from the Zara sale; most of it will be going back, but they did include a spurious teeshirt in my order - result! And this jacket, which is lovely on (I tried it on in the shop a few weeks ago, and two complete strangers complimented me on how it looked, which is always a good sign), although I'm not sure I can justify the ££.

Blackduck · 03/07/2012 14:34

Yes, CV I bet M&S sell a fair few! To be fair it is flattering, holds things in/up and is robust enough to swim in so it suits my needs!! I do find it sad that I have reached a stage where I need severally structured swimwear! Never thought I'd end up here!
I am not going to think about small children and birthday parties ..... I am sure it will be fine Herbs, just ensure you have something quick to bung in the oven for tea and a large vat bottle of wine available to wipe out the memory :)

herbaceous · 03/07/2012 14:47

No no no. High adult:child ratio. Max 25 adults, max 9 kids. And we have ordered copious booze.

Took DS swimming today, and am exhausted. So is he, but is sadly awake. Has pointed up sad fact that I too need a new Cossie.

bigTillyMint · 03/07/2012 15:21

BD, like the cozzie, and if it holds in/up, even better!

Herbs, I recoiled at your earlier post, but only 9 children sounds much betterGrin

We have had to bring DD's party forward 3 weeks as half of her friends couldn't make the chosen date - so it's on SundayShock She is expecting a home-made cake, but hasn't said what yet.... At least at 13 you don't have to stop them from fighting/crying/weeing in the wrong place, etc!

bigTillyMint · 03/07/2012 15:23

Oh, and meant to say I like the blazer CV, though I'm not sure I would wear the whole outfit!

herbaceous · 03/07/2012 16:47

With my boobs, I steer clear of collarless jackets due to the Angela Merckel effect.

bigTillyMint · 03/07/2012 18:57

Angela Merckel effectGrin Not a problem for me!

CointreauVersial · 03/07/2012 23:12

Me neither!

I'm on the fence as to whether I should keep the jacket, having just shelled out for a new dishwasher. I'm just not sure I'll get enough use out of it (unlike the dishwasher).

beachyhead · 04/07/2012 13:50

Well I did it, had a hellish half hour in TK Maxx and came away with two swimsuits....First one is here and the second is similar although its black and the boobage part is white, so I fear that it may look as if there are two Zeppelins zoning towards unsuspecting swimmers in the pool.....

Still it's done, they are both OK, but frankly OK is as good as it's going to get at this stage....

Beach Body Beautiful, I am not Smile

I like the Zara jacket, FWIW, although I appreciate it can do less than a dishwasher....

bigTillyMint · 04/07/2012 16:59

LikeySmile Dunno if it would stay up on someone as flat-chested as me - no danger of being mistaken for zeppelins!

Just been to the dentist again. Need two new crowns. Is anyone else suffering teeth crumbling away? At least I can comiserate with my friend who has similar problems.

motherinferior · 04/07/2012 20:10
CointreauVersial · 04/07/2012 20:22

Ooh, I can't do bandeaus. I'd be swimming one-handed whilst holding it up!

TheReturnOfStropperella · 04/07/2012 20:25

At the rate my face is sagging, in another few months Angie and I will be jowls twins.

Ruby, I hope your ds2 had a good birthday yesterday. Dd spent her b-day mainly at Southampton Uni building rockets. Her group's rocket won the competition (it went the furthest) and everyone sang her Happy Birthday and the teacher gave her a present. She was very pleased.

I have started an IT course, which I am aiming to complete in record time.

Herbs, best of British for the party. Hope you get this week's ration of dry weather on the day.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 04/07/2012 20:26

I have nothing but admiration for you swimsuit buyers, btw. I am too scared to contemplate such a move. I would really, really like an Edwardian-style one, but M&S don't seem to have any...

Blackduck · 04/07/2012 21:14

I try to swim at least three times a week at lunchtime. Which is hilarious as there are all these people studiously avoiding eye contact....(it is the works pool)...there is dead silence (aside from the splash of water and one heavy breather) as we all swim round and round in our lanes.

CointreauVersial · 04/07/2012 22:09

Works pool - ooh, get you!

We don't even have a work kitchen.

Will it be dry on Saturday? Well, we have been invited to a garden party, so....er....no. It will tip down (sorry, Herbs).

Grin at the thought of Strops stepping coyly from her bathing hut in a giant pair of striped bloomers.

Ruby where you going?

CV we have a kitchen too.... (I work at a university so a 'work pool' is no big deal :) )

bigTillyMint · 05/07/2012 06:49

We have a miniscule kitchen, but no pool. However, our local pool is 3mins from my house. I have not been sincewell before it was refurbished 18mths agoBlush
Stropps, you definitely don't need an Edwardian style cozzie.

I am watching the forecast for Sunday - yesterday it had a lightning sign for the afternoon, which would be quite exciting from the Eye, n'est-ce pas?

ruby, where did you decide on in the end?
