New thread for chatting. Oh and swapping S&B tips.

Having a manic day here - INSET day at school and I have 7 kids (inc my 3) over for lunch. While also trying to "work from home" and talk to removal people.

I loved Barca and would go back in a flash. A friend has just been to Rome (with teenage DC) and she was really taken, so either would be great and very culturalWink

Is it just a week or could you stretch to 10 days?

Ladies p3 Shock what are you all doing? Booking holidays?
Ds's shingles has scabbed over - as has the dogs paw. Ds has had a fab sporty week, ice skating, bowling, trampolining, martial arts and lots of water based stuff today. He is shattered, and has requested a quiet weekend. I am down in London this weekend/Monday to see folks and college friends. Can't believe its only three weeks until the end of term....

TheReturnOfStropperella · 28/06/2012 15:12

Seriously impressed with ruby taking her dd to see Nicky Minaj. I clearly need to put a lot more effort into this area of parenting. I think I am being generous in terms of the entertainment budget when I pay for dd to go to the local cinema with her mates (tickets £2.50 Grin ). I do not even know what dd likes music-wise. I know more about what she doesn't like (One Direction, The Wanted, Wossname sings that rubbish whiney Grenade song), as these are all things ds DOES like and can therefore be slagged off ad infinitum.

Feeling in a bit of a funny mood as have finished the exams season, have no other work in currently and have just put in my first application for a "proper" job. Insomnia is back, but this is quite clearly because I am worrying about dosh and dh's upcoming treatment. Drat.

Blackduck · 28/06/2012 15:32

Pillow mist Stropps - working for me.

bigTillyMint · 28/06/2012 19:08

Stropps I am Envy at £2.50 - the cheapest near us is a fiver. But at least they buy the popcorn at the pound shopGrin

DD seems to like all music. Well, she seems to know the words to every song, but then I guess I did back in the day.She seems to like strong female singers bestWink I have taken her to see Eliza Doolitle twice. Very good and wholesome!

Sympathies about the insomnia - do you get up or lie there stewing?!

I'm here, Rubes, but I've been Mrs Busy McBusy from Busytown this week.

ILs have descended (without checking if dates would be suitable; no they weren't really....), lots of school stuff going on, DH stressed at work, dishwasher has packed up......oh yes, and 101-yo grandmother died yesterday morning.

Actually, it was a blessing, really - her quality of life really had dwindled to nothing. She was in a care home, but last week had to be moved to a nursing home because of the level of care she was needing. Basically, the move finished her off; she was frightened, confused, violent and in a lot of pain, needed heavy sedation on arrival, and never really woke up.Sad She was a very stubborn lady, and I think that was the secret to her long life - she wasn't going anywhere quietly, thank you very much!

Blackduck · 29/06/2012 23:17

I'm here...
Well its old Dylan isn't it CV, rage against the dying of the light and all that.... Sorry to hear though.
I am cream crackered... Can't work out if I'll, old, or combination of both.
No hols planed here, hoping for house move instead..

TheReturnOfStropperella · 30/06/2012 10:06

I'm here - and I wrote a nice, long post last night. But then dh's guitar amp blew a fuse and that threw a trip switch and all the computers turned off. So I took that as a sign I should just give up and go to bed.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother, CV. Hope the funeral and all that comes with it goes OK.
No holiday here. We shall be living in hope of some improvement in the weather so we can go to the local beaches etc.
My mother has invited herself to lunch on Sunday, so we will have to spend this afternoon tidying and cleaning.
It's dd's 14th birthday on Tuesday and she is currently going through a phase of being positive; almost managing a level of sweetness and light not experienced here for some while. If I was very cynical, I might say that it's because she is hoping for a particularly fancy and expensive (but v. small) birthday present. However, as she went on a trip to a science fair for KS3/4 students at Exeter Uni on Thursday and came back enthused, excited and talking actual, real sense about possible A level choices and careers, I am reining in my cynicism for the moment. Well, for today anyway. Grin

motherinferior · 30/06/2012 10:11

Hello all. I didn't post yesterday even though was working from home as was losing plot slightly; my mum is here for w/end as her best mate (from 1950s Madras college days) is in nearby hospital having had a stroke, I saw friend with the very ill six year old last night, and am feeling flattened with hangover work today and Mr Inferior has been v grumpy...

...on good side, have booked nice week here where we have been before, affordable and lovely...

CV sorry to hear about your GM - 101 is a fair old age!

MI the cottage looks nice and away from it all - very relaxing for you.

Stropps, glad to hear your DD is more positive... wondering what her present of choice is... expensive phone by any chance?

DD will be 13 in 3 weeks. She is currently asking about a Laser Quest partyShock I am hoping that the paintballing party she is going to tomorrow will put her off!

Blackduck · 30/06/2012 12:30

Hello all, can I join you in the hangover MI? I am liking the thread where someone describes themselves as feeling like they have just been dug up - I know that feeling exactly. Dp is also hungover grumpy.
Love the cottage MI looks fab, and sorry to hear yesterday was tough.
Ds and dog on the mend, but a friend is not well and I am concerned (has a brain thing - cant recall name - that screws with her vision).
Hope everyone has a good/relaxing weekend....might go to see the torch today if I can be arsed to get off my bed...

bigTillyMint · 30/06/2012 13:02

Actually I am just realising that I haven't got a hangover today, despite a good few glasses of wine. Must have been all the burgers and hotdogs soaking it upGrin

motherinferior · 01/07/2012 19:20

ARgh. My mother is here maddeningly indefinitely atm as her mate is now worse and is in ICU. Spent the afternoon with her there. Quite apart from anything else the strain of being a Good Daughter is taking it out of me Blush

bigTillyMint · 02/07/2012 14:49

oh MI you have my sympathies!

In S&B news I went to the preview at the annual summer sales at the local shops and got a pair of converse for £18 and a linen dress for £40 Smile
