New thread for chatting. Oh and swapping S&B tips.

Having a manic day here - INSET day at school and I have 7 kids (inc my 3) over for lunch. While also trying to "work from home" and talk to removal people.

She is deranged. Totally and utterly.

BD, I'm so sorry.

I am still without glasses (long and tedious myopic story) and am supposed to be marking not faffing around on MN. Also am braced for DD2's party later.

bigTillyMint · 23/06/2012 09:30

BD, Oh no! Is it shingles because he had chicken pox previously?

MrsS, put your mother onto ABGrin

30 minutes wait in nhs walk in clinc (impressed!) yes, shingles. Yes has had chickenpox before. But aside from rash which is a bit itchy he is absolutely fine, no temperature or anything. Nurse thinks he has had it over 72 hours so nothing they can do (medicate with over counter stuff as necessary). Had no warning signs - pain, temp, ill.....
He can go to school as long as he keeps it covered (on his shoulder blades so no worries there), just need to avoid pregnant women!

Haven't heard of a shingles outbreak round here, thankfully. Glad to hear it doesn' tseem to be hitting your DS too hard - a friend got it at Easter - knocked him for 6, bit like man-fluWinkGrin

Blackduck · 23/06/2012 17:11

Yes, touch wood he will be okay. Warned dp it will be a tres quiet week, lots of early nights etc...
My dad was off 3 months with it!!

motherinferior · 23/06/2012 20:59

THe party is over Grin and DD2 has two BFs staying the night. I am rivetted by their gossip about how apparently Katy fancies Matthew (who is in DD1's year - actually I suspect Katy is taller than Matthew) and you can tell because she is always so off-hand with him.

I have resisted the urge to text Matthew's mum and tell her Grin. Especially since I think Matthew has a crush on DD1. Life in the playground, so complicated Grin.

CointreauVersial · 23/06/2012 23:53

Aha, MI, we're party twins! DH and I have retreated to the bedroom, because DD1 and her sleepover buddies have commandeered the living room. She had a swimming party earlier, which required four adults to stand shivering in the shallow end just in case one of the excellent young swimmers fell off an inflatable. I had to rope in my mum and 77-yo stepdad to help, although I'm not sure how much use he would have been in a crisis. Then the usual hour of hell in the "party room", stoking the little darlings up on sugar until they bounce off the walls.....

Just realised it's ages since I posted on this thread, though I have lurked once or twice. I have had a busy week, organising a conference at work, then the party, then we have friends of DH descending for a couple of days, rapidly followed by the ILs who announced they are "coming over for a few days, hope that's OK". Well, no, it isn't really. They have decided to fly into Luton, despite the fact that we are 15 minutes from Gatwick, and neither DH nor I can easily take any time off while they are here. Grr....

Good to hear the house news, BD; although the Fat Lady is far from Singing, she is at least rustling her sheet music.

And nice to see the reappearance on this thread of MrsS's mad mother. LOL at not telling her consultant because she didn't want him to have the satisfaction of anything interesting! Grin

S&B tip of the day:

nit lotion strips colour out of your hair.

Ho yes.

I also stripped an ant farm out of the birthday girl's hair. HUGE, they were. Size of lizards.

CointreauVersial · 24/06/2012 19:55

Are you resembling an auburn badger, MI?

A nit-free auburn badger, at least.....

Yes, same here ruby - one of the benefits of secondary schoolSmile

CointreauVersial · 25/06/2012 13:28

Hmmm.....that reminds me, we had the Nitty Nieces over for a sleepover last weekend.....must check they didn't bring extra guests (wouldn't be the first time Angry.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 25/06/2012 13:50

The few times that we have had nits in recent years, they have been a charming gift to ds from the nitty nephews (both nephews and nits last sighted during half-term).

We spent the weekend in London and went to see Top Hat. This - in our terms rather pricey - expedition is in lieu of a holiday, as all holiday plans are now off thx to dh's looming treatment. Weekend was very good, if somewhat exhausting, but now everyone is feeling a bit deflated. I managed to wangle in a leetle bit of shopping, so now have smart trousers and nifty jacket. At least, I hope these things look OK. They looked OK in the changing room. Now I just have to get me an interview to wear them to. Knuckling down to the job applications now and trying not to listen to all the usual negative gubbins swilling around in my head.

motherinferior · 25/06/2012 20:00

I have to do marking.

I don't want to do marking.

ARGH.

But I have nice red hair again Grin

CointreauVersial · 25/06/2012 22:33

Oooh, Strops - linky to smart togs??

Blackduck · 26/06/2012 08:11

We have (thus far) escaped nits (I never had them as a child either...)
Ds had sports day yesterday, and is off ice skating and bowling today - I could do with a bit of that.
Mamouth period has FINALLY finished (3 plus weeks, and a fortuen in sanitary products later...), am inhaling 'pillow mist' for the insomnia, and feeling somewhat better.
Hope all is okay with the various Crepeys...where's Dukes by the way?

TheReturnOfStropperella · 26/06/2012 09:40

This is the jacket I bought and I also got these, which are actually full-length on me. Grin I wouldn't have gone near all that beige before, but have now seen the error of my ways.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 26/06/2012 09:41

Oops that first link is to the jacket in grey. I got the beige Rublo taupe.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 26/06/2012 09:47

As the trousers are full-length on me, I reckon they look a bit smarter and I could wear them with some smart dark brown boots. Or would this be a hideous faux pas? Other S&B news: I got these a couple of weeks ago. I love, love, love them. Dd is even now considering a pair of the same in black for school (oh what a result that would be). Clarks are now doing wide fit in many more of their styles. Hooray!

bigTillyMint · 26/06/2012 09:56

Stropps, good choices! You will look fab abd "on trend" for your interviewsSmile
I have a pair of black cropped trousers from Gap that are remarkably similar, though on me, considerably shorter than on the modelGrin

Yes DD had some similar balck brogues too for a brief period last year, before going back to the beloved Kickers!
