Weight versus dress size

KarmaK · 30/03/2012 14:26

On another forum somebody told me "there's no way" that I can weigh 10 and a half stone and still only wear a size 8 to 10. But I do.

I personally don't feel actual weight determines what size clothes you wear. Do you?

I seem to be very fat for my weight then Blush

Ephiny · 30/03/2012 18:10

(if that makes any sense)

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/03/2012 18:11

I don't think so Ephiny - it very much depends on where you shop.

I'm 5ft and about 7st4 and wear a size 6-8 and have a fairly small frame in terms of shoulder width etc.

But I like close fitting clothes so don't do tunics or anything wafty really.

Tonksforthememories · 30/03/2012 18:24

i'm a good 2 stone heavier than my BF, and she's 1-2 sizes bigger than me. We're the same height too!
I'm 17 st 9 Blush and a size 18-20.
She's 15 st 2 and a size 22-24.
we're both 5' 8"

CuffingChunt · 30/03/2012 18:26

I weigh just under 14 st, 5"6' and I am a 16 bottom and a 16 sometimes a 14 on top.
I would like to lose at least 3stone.
Before DS2 I weighed 12 stone and was a 14, before DS1 I weighed 11 stone and was a 12.
I have always had a bigger frame. But now I am obese and need to do something.

Tonksforthememories · 30/03/2012 18:28

I'm with you there Cuffing , Shred starts again on monday!

TooEasilyTempted · 30/03/2012 18:30

I'm same height and weight as my MIL, but whereas I'm a size 30E bra (so a very small back/ribcage), she's a 36C. I wear a size 8 top, she wears a size 12.

Again, my waist and hips are a few inches smaller so I wear a size 8 in jeans, she wears a 10.

A combination of your height, weight and frame determines your dress size.

jan2011 · 30/03/2012 18:34

im about 8 stone, 5'7 and am an 8-10 most places. when i was about 9.5 stone i was a good size 12. i carry it around my waist though. (and boobs now im bf)

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 30/03/2012 18:37

I'm 5ft 7 and 10 stone 10 and wear a 10 now, if I drop a few pounds so I am closer to 10 stone I need an 8. If I wear a 12 in jeans I can get out of them without undoing the button.

CuffingChunt · 30/03/2012 19:51

Tonks I say it all the time and never manage to sort myself out.

Chubfuddler · 30/03/2012 19:56

You can do it chuffing, honestly you can. I've lost 25 pounds in 9 weeks. I need to lose as much again but I will do it. And keep it off. You can too.

itdoesnthurttohavemanners · 30/03/2012 20:03

oooh love threads like this! I'm 5'3....currently weight 10 stone, which is too heavy for me, but am still a size 10-12...my best weight is 9.4 where I am an 8 on top, and a 10 below. Under that weight I look awful. Currently I look chunky but healthy (if that makes sense!)

BUT i have a friend who is TINY..and I mean tiny..she's an ex gymnast. She small height wise and a gorgeous figure. If you had to guess you would say she was like 7 stone! But she's actually 9 stone. When I see celebs say that they are 9 stone (that big woman from last years I'm a celeb comes to mind!) i literally think noooo wayyy!!!

blobtobetter · 30/03/2012 20:42

I'm 5'2 and weigh 12.7 = wear a 14/16 top and 16 bottom.

Am obeast and on a diet plus trying to exercise to get into a healthy range.

Don't know whether that makes me big or small for my weight!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 30/03/2012 21:00

I'm 5ft2 and 10 stone. Am 14 on bottom and 16 on top. At 12st 10 I was at least an 18.

WillPenn · 30/03/2012 21:15

CuffingChunt - this time last year we were twins! Last spring I was about 13 1/2 stone and a size 16 and 5' 6" tall. I've cut back a bit on the treats and started going to the gym three times a week and I'm now a size 14 and about 12.4.

Still quite heavy though - but then I always have been solid. I spoke to my v. nice GP about it recently as I was incredulous at still being "obese" according to BMI. She said ignore BMI, it's a load of crap if you eat well and exercise regularly.

blobtobetter · 30/03/2012 21:18

Chubfuddler - 25 pounds in 9 weeks = amazing!!

CuffingChunt · 30/03/2012 21:34

Thanks for the encouraging stories. I have a gym membership but I am ridiculously busy with P/T job, college course, and my little business and asking family to look after DCs loads to cover work and a college course. But Ds2 starts his funded 5 mornings soon so I will be able to go to the gym 2 weekday mornings then once at weekend. ( can only afford off peak)
Definitely need to cut down. Keep joining diet clubs and failing miserably.
Holiday booked for 8 weeks time though.
Smile

its funny as i must be quite flabby after having my baby. there are people here roughly same height yet 2-3 stones heavier and only one dress size of a difference.

i have thin arms and legs but am very flabby round the waist. if any of you who weigh 10 - 11 stone and 5 6-7 were to lose weight to get to my weight, you would probably be like a size 4 or something ridiculous! yet here i am at around a 10, it doesnt make sense at all.

winefairy · 31/03/2012 08:25

Totally believe you, KarmaK.

I have never been above a size 12 but people are astonished at how much I weigh. Blush I can creep towards 12 stone at my heaviest. Average height, average build but bones of lead.

One of life's little mysteries.

Born2BRiiiled · 31/03/2012 08:44

I said upthread I'm made of lead too. When I weighed 11st I was a small 12 but looked skinny. I'm 5ft 4ish , but my feet are 6.5 to 7. So I think frame counts. Now I am 13.3, and a small 16 or 14/16. I'm too big, but not "round". I have a waist, and nearly visible ribs, but chunky thighs. It's very weird. People just vary. It's why I don't love BMI alone.

Chubfuddler · 31/03/2012 09:33

I've actually done very little exercise to do that chuffing, I haven't felt able to due to the weight. I'm only now starting to do a little so it is possible to lose quite a bit through healthy eating alone.

Chubfuddler · 31/03/2012 09:35

I'm give nine and now 13.13 by the way, so I was bigger than you are. I was Blush 15.11 when I started.

I haven't td anyone that, not even my husband. Too ashamed.
