Best I could come up with......

We have always been too Amber, but i have sights set above my Chest of Drawers station! Must realise one can't do new bathroom +
extension with kitchen, utility and bathroom + re-plaster + re-decorate and then expect to buy top of the range furnishings. Spoilt? Me?

ApuskiMcClusky · 15/01/2012 20:46

Evening! Thank you very much for the holiday suggestions, we are working on it! I think I'm putting too much pressure on myself to find something perfect having only done mini holidays in the UK for the last couple of years, and to make the most of our last holiday out of school holidays for eternity!

Hopefully really glad the day went well, I am tempted...

MiM, I've also used sitters - I'm sure they mostly use CRB checked people if I remember rightly?

DH just finished cooking steak for dinner, got to go for now!

ApuskiMcClusky · 15/01/2012 20:48

Think sitters mainly do evening but also daytime too? It might vary by area.

blossoming · 15/01/2012 20:57

What a shame about the boots portia. There seems to be some good sales still on though. Hope you get a replacement soon.
red, that is a lovely dress. Sorry about dinner. It will all be worth it in the end!
mim, hope you find some childcare or can make alternative arrangements. You could really do without this stress I'm sure!
Well I've marked one set, one to go.

IceCreamCastles · 15/01/2012 21:05

Hi, just running in say thanks to fleecy for the tops- hope you didnt think I was being rude by not mentioning it before but have only just got home after staying at my parents for a few days. They are great thanks and will be v useful. Will pass them onto looby when I'm done (unless anyone else makes any announcements in the meantime Grin

Night all

Emo76 · 15/01/2012 21:37

ants i hope you are on the mend very soon, sounds horrendous. Have added you and amber to see pics

DD was 8 today, lovely but very long day.

OllieinOrange · 15/01/2012 21:43

Its gone 10.30pm and DS1 is still awake having been downstairs a total of 6 times since 7.30pm. Im exasperated. He will be a nightmare to wake up tomorrow morning. He'd had an hours hockey practice today and a trip to the park on his scooter. Why isn't he tired????

Hiding behind the laptop now. Know WIT linked to it but Im really enjoying The Frugality blog here

Hopefully glad you enjoyed your day. Were you the only one?

Emo Happy Birthday DD. Was talking about parties with Ds2 today - he wants a lego themed one.

OP posts:
Hopefully · 15/01/2012 23:52

OIO thanks for the frugality link. WIT for some reason irritates the hell out of me, so I can't read it. I have no logic behind this irritation.

There were four of us on the style day. They turned out to be classic gamine, natural gamine and classic romantic, so there was a nice range of styles to see being uncovered, which was great. Biggest surprises of the day were (a) I have reasonably long legs and not a hugely long torso - I have always thought I have stumpy legs and a long body, (b) I have a heart shaped face. I thought it was pudgy and round and (c) I have a long neck - again, I thought it was rather short and chubby! Possibly I may have to accept that I am not as dumpy as I think I am.

I am just plotting my 'capsule' wardrobe list for the first half of 2012. I am trying to pare it down a bit as it is rather scary (read: expensive), but suffice to say that I will be needing a lot of link help in the coming days! I have made a start by ordering a pair of Jalouse and a vest top.

Consultant was particularly excited when I showed her this anglomania dress, which I have been semi-contemplating (I printed out a pic of it alongside the other stripy one I linked a couple of days ago), she thinks it is very me. Absolutely no occasion to wear it (MU dress?), but tempted nonetheless. Could get use out of it for less smart parties over skinnies, but will probably not be that mini on me as I am short not as tall as the model.

Right, must must must go to bed, DH thinks I am answering questions on our ebay listings (which I was, until I got slightly distracted by NAP-browsing...)

AmberNectarine · 16/01/2012 08:05

Well, the baby has redeemed herself by going 10-4 last night! Feel like a new woman, well, a slightly less tired one at any rate. Happy days.

emo Wow, what a gorgeous smile!

If anyone wants to see what I look like, I have added a pic on my profile.

Hopefully it all sounds so exciting! I saw get the Anglomania, if you really love it it will be a worthwhile investment!

blossoming · 16/01/2012 08:09

Morning all!
Wow what a great day hopefully. I can see now why vwa would be perfect for natural dramatics. Did she mention any celebs that have the same style personality?

Emo76 · 16/01/2012 08:47

Olly have you been building up his stamina ?! ;-) Lego theme sounds lots of fun, my favourite ever was a "007" party we did for DD1 last year when she turned 7, she is a big James Bond fan!

amber you are gorgeous and your baby is too (love the tinsel accessory!)

hopefully that sounds like a really good investment. I am getting tempted to do one of those days myself after the success and confidence it has given other ladies on this thread.

MidnightinMoscow · 16/01/2012 08:50

Morning. It's freezing here today.

Sounds like you had a great day Hopefully, and that is was very useful. Very much looking forward to looking at your links as you replenish your wardrobe. Very much like the shape of the VWA. I know it sometimes feels wrong to buy a dress when you don't have an occasion in mind. However, you have invested in the style day and you are in the process of pulling a wardrobe together that needs to work for you, whatever the occasion maybe. Go for it, I say!

Hope DS was ok with getting up this am Ollie.

Shame about the boots Portia although good customer service.

Nice picture Amber, you are very naturally pretty.

I am going to contact Sitters this am, in the hope they may be able to help with a day time service. Just feel so nervous leaving DS with someone and having to instruct them on epi-pen use etc. Which is why DH and I never go out together really!

I have only just realised Red, why you suggested there may be a creche at the class, as its for VBAC, and therefore women are likely to have children with them. Blush Did you order that Boden tunic?

I am slow on the uptake at times!!

MidnightinMoscow · 16/01/2012 08:51

Meant to say Happy belated birthday to Emo's DD too. Smile

notyummy · 16/01/2012 08:52

Morning all. Back from a weekend away in Leeds, which was very nice - up to the point that poor DH got food poisoning (we think from a dodgy prawn in a curry) - and spent all Saturday night and Sunday being rather ill. He is feeling better now though.

Hopefully - Glad you had such a great style day!

Red - I can see you in that dress. Well done on even attempting a roast in your current kitchen circumstances.

Emo - Glad your daughter had a lovely day. That is indedd a lovely picture of you!

Amber - you are ridiculously young, attractive and fresh faced, and are not to sit next to me at the MU Wink. In all seriousness, it is a lovely photo and you look great.

Ants - really hope you are feeling better soon. I have never had cystitus, but I know from friends how agonising it can be.

Amber and Red - I can also put my hand up to being a member of the Malm club Grin. We bought it when we bought our first house together and needed a whole load of furniture that didn't break the bank. After we let that house out and bought this one, we just took it with us. The problem at the moment is we are likely to be moving another couple of times at least with the military, and we don't want to spend on 'investment' furniture until we have sold both our properties to buy a 'long term' home, so I can't really justify replacing all the Malm that is doing a reliable job.

Bloss/Annie/Ollie - Well done on the nights out. I drank a fair amount of wine this weekend but it was all at friend's house, so no chance to dress up unfortunately.

Those of you who are struggling with sleep deprivation, I bow down to you all. I am pretty rubbish at it, and was blessed with a dd who only woke once to feed from 10pm to 6am from birth (unless illness strikes, of course.). She was a 'rotund' baby from the start (so at least I can't be even more irritating and claim to have an easy delivery Grin)and fed all day which seemed to tank her up - not sure if that had anything at all to do with it. Probably just luck. This weekend reminded me of just how rubbish I am, because my friends children are not great sleepers so I was awake quite a lot listening to them on Friday night, and then they were up early on Saturday morning?..and then on Saturday evening DH was up and down all night because he was ill. By Sunday I was knackered! My friend does this all the time - her husband is in Afghanistan, and she is a consultant neonatologist, saving teeny tiny babies lives. I am not worthy! We had a nice weekend despite the tiredness. Went on a long walk around the lovely Roundhay Park, which is right next to where she lives. I do like Leeds, and that area of it is fab.

Oh - for those of you who are fellow Jillian Michaels devotees - I did L 1 and half of L2 of 'Killer Buns and Thighs' last night. What a title, eh? Quite enjoyed it, in a strange way. I am so used to the other Jillian DVDs that it is good to try something new. You can forget about the pain as you have to concentrate on what comes next. Not very cardio based so not as much heavy breathing as the Shred or 6W6P. Bit of a mixture of some stuff that didn't sem that tough at all, and 4 or 5 exercises that nearlt made me weep with pain. That said, I had been running both Friday and Saturday and I so I think my legs were a bit tired already. They feel alright today, so I probably didn't push myself hard enough.

Off to Zara at lunchtime to pick up my gold top and leopard print vest. Absolutely gorgeous day here in Nottingham - but freezing.

MU room mates - I will be booking the room this morning unless anyone has any last minute need to cancel!!

AmberNectarine · 16/01/2012 09:07

Oh no, NY, how unlucky, glad he is feeling better now! To be fair that photo was taken on holiday while I was pg with DD, so I was more relaxed than now. Have probably aged 10 years in the last 6 months. I feel a bit cheated hearing you say that about your DD, mine is also rotund, and feeds all day, but also feeds all night! Going to crack out my Shred tonight, as my wobbly thighs are upsetting me greatly!

Hope you can find a sitter MiM, I think a lot of the people sitters use are nursery workers etc. so may have experience of children with allergies.

notyummy · 16/01/2012 09:21

Ach, don't feel cheated Amber - I think, unfairly, that a significant % of what babies do at nighttime is just down to luck.

Good luck with the shredding. I don't like my thighs either....that is always where the weight goes on, and no matter how much weight I lose, they are never going to look particularly slim. C'est la vie. Just have to try and dress to flatter!

loobylu3 · 16/01/2012 09:25

Chilly morning here but lovely and sunny!

Apologies for forgetting to say thank you to blue and icey for their current mat jean/ leggings advice!
icey- was thinking of trying the TS Leighs. Can I ask what the sizing is like as I think they only have a 10+ left and sometimes mat clothes seem to come up quite a bit larger. Thank you for your kind offer too!

MIM- how rubbish that your mum has let you down for something that is so important to you :(
Finges crossed for a creche. Otherwise, to be honest, I'm sure you can get masses of info online or one to one with your midwife. Best of luck!

red- fab news re SA, especially as you cal all go now! We are hoping to go to S/pore (to see DH's family) over half term- v disorganised and slow to book here compared to most of the others on the thread!

hopefully- style day sound great. Do most people seem to be a mix of two styles? I'm pretty sure I would be natural but nothing else jumped out when people have linked in the past..

emo- happy belated birthday to DD.

ants- hope you can get to the GP today. It sounds as if you have a resistant bacteria (i.e. resistant to whatever you were given initially).

NY and other exercise experts on here. Can you recommend any good exercise in pg? I was doing the shred 3-4 times a week until late Summer, then slowed a bit to maybe twice a week. Felt rubbish first trimester and couldn't do anything but much better now. Have been doing a few abs exercises which I never bothered with any of the other times (wish I had). Obviously, swimming etc and fine but much easier for me time wise to fit in something at home.

MidnightinMoscow · 16/01/2012 09:29

Looby I have the maternity Leighs and they are true to size. I am wearing them more than my Baxters now as they are so comfortable.

Sorry to hear about DH NY, food poisoning is hideous.

Do I sound odd for saying that I am looking forward to shredding again?!

loobylu3 · 16/01/2012 09:30

Missed the bit about the food poisoning NY. Poor DH!
Your DD was an amazing sleeper! Mine were every 3 hours at birth but took a while to feed and quite a while to settle afterwards as v windy, etc.

amber- do you always feed DD in the night or do you sometimes settle her back with cuddles, etc? I can't remember how old she is but if > 6 months and eating solids well, she shouldn't physically need to be fed all night. I fully appreciate how hard it is but it might be better to have short time pain and longer term gain.

notyummy · 16/01/2012 09:33

Looby - I had this DVD which is gentle, but I quite enjoyed it. I can't believe the price on Amazon though!! You might be able to get it cheaper on Play.com or ebay? There is also a Davina pre and post pregnancy workout DVD that I would have thought might be quite good. I ran up to 6 months, and then went to the gym and used the cross trainer and did uphill walking on the treadmill. The gym takes time though, so perhaps power walking a couple of times a week in lieu of gym/running? I also used to do a series of leg/arm exercises with light weights right up to my due date - squats/lunges/shoulder raises/bicep curls. Nothing that used my core, and doing it increasingly slowly and carefully towards the end!

IceCreamCastles · 16/01/2012 09:37

Looby-I would say the leighs are reasonably true to size, maybe slightly roomier than usual topshop jeans. When I tried them on at about 20 weeks the 10s fit well but I got 12s in (correct) anticipation of thigh expansion Grin. My seraphine jeans are a 10 and still fitting fine if that helps for comparison purposes

Amber, please could I see your photo?

Ants- sorry you're still feeling so bad. Hope you feel better soon

MiM- hope you can get creche/sitter sorted out.

AmberNectarine · 16/01/2012 09:38

looby she has been very slow on the uptake with solids, only just moved up to 2 meals a day. She only woke once for a feed last night so hoping this is the start of something...

notyummy · 16/01/2012 09:41

Yes Looby - we were blessed. I didn't tell my friends though in case I was buried under a hail of dirty nappies. My Dad used to joke that I must have been producing Jersey gold top as DD was so round (99th centile) and slept like that. Erm, thanks for that Dad Hmm. I think he meant it as a compliment.....

Hopefully · 16/01/2012 09:49

Looby I think it's much more common to be a mix of styles than be one true type. I have to say it took a long time for any kind of Dramatic to suggest itself to me (although the Natural bit was patently obvious) - it was more when I read something about the bone structure, and then bits began to click into place. I wasn't totally convinced until the analyst said I was that too!

MIM thanks for the enabling!

Bloss she mentioned some dramatic celebs and some natural celebs, but said it's hard sometimes to be precise about a crossover, especially as lots of celebs who are a mix of two tend to be classic-something. She said Angelina Jolie used to have a distinct Dramatic Natural side (lots of lovely textures, leather, natural fibres, bit of drama), but has mellowed a bit, and I can see what she means.

I'm feeling so much more confident about shopping now, especially when she explained why I feel frumpy in so many clothes (basically anything with even the slightest hint of classic in it kills me), and showed how things that I love can be altered an inch or two to make them more dramatic.

Am currently debating whether to alter my lovely (but not-quite-right) Toast waistcoat or eBay it and make a new one that's a better shape for me. Am also trying to work out how to shorten my hair slightly while keeping some drama - would like to inch it back up bit by bit (maybe all the way to a bob, but it is elbow length atm, so let's not rush!), but hate that stupid in-between shoulder length style.

Envy at those who had babies that slept from early on, and huge sympathies to those suffering. If it helps, DS2 has gone from the worst sleeper to actually pretty good (usually does 10 hours before needing a feed, occasionally needs one quick settle in that time), but until about 8 months he was just appalling.

carciofi · 16/01/2012 10:02

Amber, you are gorgeous! I often give my DD2 porridge or sweet potato (something heavy to load her up) at about 5, milk at 7 and then DH often gives her a bottle at 11, which usually (but not always) does the trick.

Emo, your profile photo is lovely too. Happy birthday to your DD1.

Ants, get well soon.

Mim, could your DS's nursery recommend someone to babysit? That's how I get most of my babysitters. I have used Sitters too, I thought they had babysitters available in the daytime but maybe not in your area.

Hopefully, glad you enjoyed the style day. The Anglomania dress is fab.

I know Boden is not everyone's cup of tea but I bought these sandals and they are comfy and very nice on.

Red, great that you are all going to SA (and you got your jeans!). Hang in there for your new kitchen.

I have two forever dresses, well, I have had them both for 10 years. They are both DvF, I am thinking of getting another for my birthday. Quite like this but I could only really wear it on the rare occasions I go out at night.

What shoes are you going to wear with the black dress, Bloss?

Reallygrumpy, forgot to say, nice to "see" you again.
