remember the sculpting blusher in the 80s?
i have to STOP myself taking blusher up to temples to stop that mad " just done aerobics perma flush" thing we used to be told to do.

the highlighter above the lipstick - i still do it on a night out, in the cupids bow Hmm and Im sure i look demented

what make up things can you not stop doing?

Benefit do a cupids bow pencil with highlighted on one end. I like it!

bigfatgypsy · 20/12/2011 07:58

But but but... I CAN'T scrap my black mascara/grey kohl/blonde hair combo.

ggirl · 20/12/2011 08:05

blusher you can actually see
have always liked the flushed look
can't see the point of barely there
and no I don't look like this Blush

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 20/12/2011 08:53

babs daly does a very nice brown metallic eyeliner, not with a brush unf but it's only a fiver or somesuch. the purple one also good.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 20/12/2011 08:59

oh btw for those scared of blusher/wanting to look healthy/flushed rather than a backing singer for Phil Oakey... may i present dior rosy glow?
i've been looking for it for years... makes you look like you're back and showered after the gym. WITHOUT GOING TO THE GYM.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 20/12/2011 09:01

(or like you've just enjoyed a marathon sex sesh )

Flyingoutofcontrol · 20/12/2011 09:01

Can someone do a link to this highlighted cupids bow malarkey?

Interested now in what it is as it seems to have bypassed me. Sadly not the half eyeliner tho Blush

AvadventKalendar · 20/12/2011 09:05

have recently discovered the delights of grey eyeliner, very soft and flattering.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Iced Champink! [Wendy James emote]

Trills · 20/12/2011 09:08

Do wear make-up most days though. It's wonderful for when you want to look under-par at work or at home. Just leave it off and ta-da! People tell you to go straight to bed and stay there

Some amazing makeup-related advice from GetOrf's spa thread.

Also: that stingy lipgloss. Eurgh. In future years everyone will be looking back at that and thinking "why on earth did we want painful lips?"

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 20/12/2011 09:12

I am in a makeup rut. I knows it Xmas Sad

BUT one thing that is even worse...

Has anyone else noticed that you can buy exactly the same shade powder/foundation that you always have and it is now ORANGE?

What is that about? Why have they added orange to my usual 'nude' loose powder? Why does my 'ivory' foundation now glow like a belisha beacon?

FluffyMummy123 · 20/12/2011 09:48

Grey clinique gel eyeliner is my fave ever. Thick lone makes gren eyes look ace.
Agree re make up spec in winter

The cupids now thing. Get a highlighter (I have a benefit set I don't really use for anything else )

Get the scary white eyeshadow. Put a tiny bit on cupids now. Then do lips as normal. In the 80s they used to tell you to do a stripe down. Your nose

I like Bobbi brown cream blush. Gg girl hates it. it does need reapplying but LADY look at yourself.
Anyone who wants lipgloss that's not too glossy the clinique vitamin c smoothie is nice.
I must stop rating sodding clinique

Remus nooo keep the black nails says she who still wears it and is slightly older - I remember black cherry it was tipped in Jaxkie or similar as good for lips cheeks and eyes

miaowmix · 20/12/2011 10:25

Aitch that Dior thing looks amazing. I am a huge blusher fan, but I want all my make to look dewy without being sweaty, if that makes sense, hence dislike of matt/powdery finish. I have 2 bobbi brown cream blushers but I think they're both the wrong shade for me; good texture though.
Juicy tubes are a waste of time if you have long hair - constant sticking. I wasted god knows how many years on them.
Clinique almost lipsticks are pretty good too icod.
Pseudonymity yep, good isn't it?
While we're on make up no-nos, please can someone tell me a really excellent tinted moisturiser that must be good for dry skin? And not too pale? I have used and love: Bobbi Brown, Origins and Estee Lauder but hoping for a slightly cheaper, ie £10 budget version...? Smile

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 20/12/2011 10:28

it is amazing, really. it's quite low on pigment but high on dew factor iykwim? and the packaging is lovely and brush very good quality. it's my favourite product du jour.

you know what... i don't rate clinique. think it was that big fashion for dramatically different mayonnaise moisturiser that put me off, and i've never been back.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 20/12/2011 10:29

i would investigate liz earle for tinted moisturiser, btw.

miaowmix · 20/12/2011 10:34

THanks Aitch. Clinique make up better than skin care I think.
Dramatically different is just pure water, most over rated moisturiser ever. It slides off my skin.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 20/12/2011 10:49

and the way it goes like scrambled egg at the neck of the bottle... blerk. honestly, there was a time there in the eighties when i was a voice crying in the wilderness about that product, everyone i knew LOVED it.

miaowmix · 20/12/2011 10:55

The skincare equivalent of Poison!
I think I still have some from the 80's lurking in my bathroom somehwere Wink
Actually it's great for slathering on after you've been in the sun.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 20/12/2011 10:56

as is mayo. trufact. Grin

Eowyn · 20/12/2011 11:05

I used to sell Avon when I was 18 (some decades ago) & remember when Everyone wanted Iced Champink. & I still have some quantities of Arabian Glow, in pressed compact And powder form!
Useful for when you need orange eyeshadow....
Don't you all co-ordinate with clothing? Can be quite fun...

Lulumama · 20/12/2011 11:15

oh.em.gee
black cherries
twas awesome
I have lost the ability to wear anything other than a paleish lippy these days, although have bought a revlon one called raspberry, but now I have added gold highlights to my red hair, it looks odd

i am fooked

MordechaiVanunu · 20/12/2011 11:16

I've only recently discovered the cupids bows highlighter thing and have been v smug with my expert make up knowledge-and I come on here to discover ITS OLD HAT????

Well, I don't care I'm convinced it looks good.

I've only recently got I to the whole high, lighter thing, didn't really know what to do with it before, but after extensive YouTube research I now have a whole routine of bronzer, highlighter and blusher that makes me look alive gorgeous.

I still can't do eyeshadow though, at all. I had a whole thread on here one Christmas where cod guided me through the purchase of a jungle green rimmel eyeliner and green eye shadows and then talked me through the application- but to no avail they lie unused and unloved at the bottom of my make up drawer. I've decided my eyes are too deep set and eye shadow just does nothing for me.

Blusher I love though. It's transformative. My latest love is NARS Deep Throat blusher it's the best I've ever had. So far.

Lulumama · 20/12/2011 11:20

Nars Orgasm for me. makes me look flushed and young
