Hi dukes, how's your mum doing?

motherinferior · 18/10/2011 20:03

Dukes, are there any stops I can help pull out with your mum?

(And schools - opting for Sidnem Low as fave.)

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/10/2011 20:48

Evening, Hags. Hope your Mum is doing OK, Dukes, and that they are getting her more comfortable.

I spent all day in a meeting today, from 0930 to 1930, with a short break for lunch. I was struggling to stay awake by the end of it.

motherinferior · 18/10/2011 20:55

I was wondering where you were....Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/10/2011 21:07

I thought you might be! Grin

Stropperella · 18/10/2011 21:42

Evening all. Have only just realised we had packed out yet another thread with crepey talk. Feeling way crepier since I turned the central heating on. I practically rustle. This evening, ds's piano teacher had on some kind of stylish poncho arrangement with a giant cowl neck that virtually came up to her ears. I have to get me one of those.

Blackduck · 19/10/2011 06:33

I am holding out on the heating ( types with blue fingers).... Yet another house viewing, saying 'garden, oh look a fox' might not have been the best thing Hmm
work all doom and gloom and now worried 'continuing' contract will not be made permanent

Stropperella · 19/10/2011 09:36

My excuse for turning the heating on is that I spend most of my day sitting down at home and therefore get cold pdq. I have tried getting up every so often to run up and down the stairs to warm up, but as dh can't be arsed to even try this and gets cold even quicker than I do and then turns the heating up full blast, I have given up. Although next time he sees the gas bill, perhaps he will see the sense in putting on an extra layer and running up and down the stairs a few times Grin.

CointreauVersial · 19/10/2011 13:26

Still on Page One of the thread, and straight into Crepey age-related ailments. Grin

I have the circulation of a slug, and it slows down as the evening wears on, so I am more-or-less blue by bedtime.

The hot water bottle is already in service, and I will shortly be digging out the cashmere bedsocks.

herbaceous · 19/10/2011 17:06

I've been feeling rather warm, lately, which is very unlike me. DP has the annoying habit of swanning around in a t-shirt, then putting the heating on. Then complaining about the gas bill, and the fact that the planet is about to die from climate change. Put a blasted wooly on then matey.

I'm tempted by some fit flop trainers. Saw some on Brand Alley, reduced to £40, from £85, which put me on to searching for pewter-coloured ones. They seem rather super, and would see me through the winter, but I could be making an enormous fashion faux pas. I have utterly collapsing feet, so do have to choose my footwear wisely.

Had lovely day out at Tropical Wings zoo, complete with butterfly house (as the name suggests). DS was utterly delightful all day, even when he started eating hay, copying the goats. I bent over to tell him how lovely he was, and he pushed my face away, saying 'no mummy. goodbye'. He seems to be 13.

wilbur · 19/10/2011 22:47

I lost you all briefly! Even started my own thread, bleating for friends. And I had scanned the S&B board, so now I have to add "inability to read properly" to my list of ailments.

Anyway, glad to be back. On the subject of circulation I have bought v expensive new winter snow-type boots which I will be getting into in Nov and taking off in April. Last winter's Raynauds flare up was very painful and wellies with thick socks just don't do it and my brilliant old hiking boots have started to leak Sad. They're still fine for summer rambling, but can't take puddles and slush anymore.

Blackduck · 20/10/2011 06:45

Another raynauds sufferer here. In need of new gloves - lost mine last April and didn't replace. Must go shopping at weekend. Ds is hacking, may need to relent on heating situation.

Stropperella · 20/10/2011 09:49

Glad you've found us, wilbur! Me too to Raynauds. I spend most of the winter stomping around in apres-ski-type boots and looking like an eskimo, whilst other people are still in flipflops. Grin

I have some Fitflop trainers and they're really comfortable, if that helps. Like the pewter - goes with everything.

herbaceous · 20/10/2011 12:01

Poly, that's all the encouragement I need. Are they fairly true to size? Trainers have a tendency to be boat like, do they not.

They'll have to go on the credit card. ANOTHER car-related fine - the parking permit had run out, so I got a £40 ticket. I'm such an arse sometimes.

Re cars, have realised that I never see anyone under 60 driving my type of car. I'd better get myself some driving gloves, and a tartan blanket.

polyhymnia · 20/10/2011 12:10

On whether true to size, can only tell you my own experience. Most of my shoes are continentally sized and I take a 41. Fitflops aren't, so have to choose between a 7 and an 8. So far have gone for 8 and they seem to be fine, specially with socks, etc.

There is some guidance on the FF website about sizing which is quite helpful so you might want to look at that too.

DukesOfTripHazard · 20/10/2011 12:18

Mum can't swallow and bp still high but crucially.... is in hospital and all should be well.

Fear pavements may now be Too Cold for Converse Sad. Farewell my pretties. See you in the Spring.

Strop get same poncho as piano teach and open door to her wearing it with mad smile. Go on.

Herbs, I find that other old green Vauxhall Astra drivers are not my sort of people in any way.

Oops, just rammed in early lunch. sesame bagel, haloumi, griddle cougette and gerkin. Yums.

OP posts:
herbaceous · 20/10/2011 12:31

Right, that's it. I'm going to order some fit flop trainers. I need some insulation betwixt foot and pavement. And knee-nigh boots are no good as I can't fit jeans in. And will save purchase of ankle boots until the sales. And there's the dreadful possibility of buying the dreaded 'mum boot' by mistake.

Dukes - glad your mum is in hospital. I was horrified by the difficulties you've had getting anyone to take her seriously. Now fearful for my own parents...

bigTillyMint · 20/10/2011 14:20

Just found you!

Herbs, I have the sketchers trainers - very warm when walking outside in the winterSmile And I definitely noticed my legs more achey when I first startes wearing them which must be a good sign?

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/10/2011 19:15

Herbs, do you drive a Nissan Micra? Grin

bigTillyMint · 20/10/2011 19:29

On the subject of cars, a colleague has just got the same as us, but to be fair it is the DH's who are really the Mondeo(estate!)Men, even though both bike to work and have never met Grin

herbaceous · 20/10/2011 19:33

Mrs S! Grin I'm too big for a Nissan Micra. From what I've seen, you have to be under five foot, have the seat as far forward as it will go, and a terrified look in the eye.

No, mine's a Skoda Fabia. One of the new ones. But still a distressingly sensible choice.

bigTillyMint · 20/10/2011 19:41

ROFL. A friend of mine had a Micra, but she is tall and never looks terrified when driving. Or ever really Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/10/2011 20:25

Oh Herbs, I didn't realise you knew my mother. GrinGrinGrin
