I've now gone the other way, and am tempted by some Colors of California rubber high-top Converse-style items, reduced to £25 from £90.

I'm off out tonight with old pals - one of whom is over from Chicago - then helping out at a toddlers' Halloween party tomorrow morning. Something of an unfortunate confluence of events. Then the in-laws tomorrow afternoon, then out for lunch with more pals on Sunday. Super.

Have to start DS wearing his eye at the weekend. One hour Saturday, two hours Sunday, etc. I've roped in friends to help hold him down while I do the extraction during the week. Poor little face.

ruby, your DH has good taste Envy

We have the double joy of clocks going back AND DS is away on a Halloween sleepover. We are taking DD to see Anonymous - for educational purposes, of course!
They have both been playing lego together for 3 hours this morningShock Lego is the best toy ever!

We are off to meet friends shortly, so my two will be on small children-minding duty while we chat.

Herbs, fingers crossed the new eye goes well.

Pre-DS, I used to go and stay with my pal in New York every six months or so. Used to have to take, or buy, another suitcase for all my purchases. Got a lovely jumper from A&F, which like all my other woolies got ravaged by moths. Best buy was a super cashmere-mix coat. The best thing about it is when people admire it and ask me where I got it, I can say 'from a sample sale in TriBeCa', like a total wanker.

Blackduck · 28/10/2011 12:06

Last time dp went away I got a nice bottle of wine...(except I didn't, as he only had hand luggage and had forgotten the liquid restrictions.....)

bigTillyMint · 28/10/2011 12:20

I have never been to NYSad

But I am planning a shopping trip with DD in a couple of yearsSmile

CointreauVersial · 28/10/2011 12:55

Morning all (checks watch and realises it's afternoon). I'm feeling a little jaded after last night's company night out at Kempton Park racecourse. The racing was great fun (floodlit), food was pretty good, and after placing a few completely random bets with limited success I actually finished the evening 50p up. Happy days!

After the racing we retired to the local Travelodge (classy!) and boozed on until 3.30am. I started the evening on bitter, then red wine, lager, a few pints of water, then onto Cointreau and Baileys (not together, mind, I have standards). Had a text at 3.45am from one of my colleagues asking for my room number Shock, a request I politely fended off, then I crashed out.

Got back home this morning to find the DCs returned safely from their PGL break, so I am knee-deep in festering laundry. They all had a ball, but very little sleep, it would seem, so early nights all round tonight.

Is there anything decent/family-friendly on at the cinemas at the moment??

herbaceous · 28/10/2011 13:00

Watch out CV - you'll be stealing Mrs S's boozehound crown!

I have never been to NY either. But I think I might go to India in spring. Why not. Haven't seen my rellies for years, quite apart from just going to India.

motherinferior · 28/10/2011 13:43

And my reaction would be exactly the same as ruby's.

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/10/2011 17:32

I would have been outraged in the same way that Ruby was, as well. Grin
Was he a hot young maaayaaaan, CV, or an old gimmer?

CointreauVersial · 28/10/2011 18:11

Well he's younger than me. Grin

Actually, he's someone I get on with well with, who had temporarily lost his sense of judgement due to a surfeit of alcohol (you may remember a tale from a few months back where a colleague ended up being sat on by a policeman after another company piss-up - same guy!).

I think/hope I was able to give him the brush-off in a sufficiently light-hearted manner, as we do get on well (when he's sober). And he sits next to me in the office. Blush

motherinferior · 28/10/2011 18:28

Ooh: a friend who works for Penhaligon's (which does surprisingly fab stuff) tells me that their newest scent, MrsS, is rather fab and strangely enough I thought of me you Grin

bigTillyMint · 28/10/2011 18:54

CV, I am most impressed with both your drinking, partying till 3.30am and getting propositioned by a younger colleague.

MI, India in the Spring! What part? We went to Kerala last Easter. Lovely, if humid!

motherinferior · 28/10/2011 18:55

Hmm. I would like to go and visit my lovely if bonkers cousin in Auroville. I haven't got any further yet. It was mostly prompted by my bursting into tears and pointing out that everyone else goes away not me and it's NOT FAIR and I never go anywhere and waaaah in idiotically childish manner....

motherinferior · 28/10/2011 18:56

I haven't been propositioned by a colleague since December 27 1999....

motherinferior · 28/10/2011 18:58

...and it is arguable, since I was the one who suggested he 'come back to finish my Christmas vodka' that I was the one who propositioned him, of course.

DD1 is now 10.

I don't think I have ever been propositioned by a colleague Envy

Not that surprising though, given the distinct lack of straight males in my professionGrin

Blackduck · 29/10/2011 08:02

I've heard it called a lot of things but never Christmas vodka Wink
I am the type who if I was propositioned wouldn't notice :)

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/10/2011 18:33

I have spent a dull, but productive day. I have sorted out the linen cupboard and have chucked out (to be given to friend with younger children) all of the duvet sets which are too young for the DDs, and have chucked away a lot of bed linen which has, frankly, had it, plus odd stuff which doesn't fit the beds. Went round to see friend's new flat, and had a coffee with her. Also had a lie in and went to post office to retrieve parcel. Had impromptu "party" last night as two (MN) friend turned up bearing drink and food. Grin

Linen cupboard looks much better, and have Nice Chicken and Potato Curry cooking for dinner, and have made odd semolina and vegetable cake (Anjoum Anand) to go with it.

I will put that scent on my Christmas list, MI. Not cheap, is it? But I'm worth it.
