Sunny and cold here too now. Am waiting till my white chocolate brownies come out of the oven, then heading off to the shops to buy a pressie for the friend who DJ'd at DD1's party.

DD1 in bed, cold and tired. Why do they call them sleepovers when the last thing they do is sleep?

Am contemplating making some expresso brownies to counteract the sickly sweetness of the white chocolate ones. What do you think?

Dukes - hope your Mum is on the mend.

Blackduck · 22/10/2011 13:41

Dukes how is your mum?
We are mid usual Saturday roundup. I am taking ds to holiday club at work next week - must remember to collect him! I have an image of me half way home thinking 'I'm sure I've forgotten something'.
Good weekend all.

bigTillyMint · 22/10/2011 14:38

MrsS, like your thinking Grin

Dukes, yes, how is your mum? I guess she's at StG's?

wilbur · 22/10/2011 19:38

Dukes - if you'd been a bit earlier, you'd have seen me in Tooting Primark buying a onesie for ds2 who gets v cold at night and cannot keep his duvet on. Didn't have time to get anything for myself, never do Sad. Is your mum at St G's? If you fancy a coffee one day, I'm 10 mins from there. Hope she's feeling a bit better.

Mrs S - I'm a bit late to debate the white choc brownies, but yes, I would recommend a dark alternative. I have a recipe for white choc mud cake and it's soooooo sweet it's like diabetes on a plate.

MI - I like both those, but prefer the first one - think it would make more of your shape (which is NOT lumpen, as you have previously referred to yourself).

Having a nice weekend here - dd out at sleepover and ds 1 & 2 have not been fighting. It's a miracle. Plus I found out that a very old friend and his partner have safely delivered their twins this morning Smile. He has wanted to be a daddy for a long, long time and I am thrilled for him.

CointreauVersial · 22/10/2011 22:00

Awww, nice baby news Wilbur, always lovely to hear.

MI, both dresses are lovely and would suit you, do what I do, order both and send one back (or not....).

A busy day today, up far too early for footy, then off to Dreams Bedstore, where DH had a rush of blood to the head and ended up parting with £2,000 Shock on a new bed for us, swanky mattress, and a platform bed/desk/sofa affair for DD2. Always handy having a buyer for a husband, as he managed to barter them down on price and get all sorts of extras thrown in, but I'm still having cold sweats thinking of the expense.

I found time for a quick whizz around the Laura Ashley sale (good reductions - none of this 5% off rubbish - I like a proper sale). It's not a shop I go in very often, but they had some nice stuff. I bought a pair of work trousers and a lovely velvet-trimmed cardi in a mid smoky-blue (like me eyes Wink).

We're a child down again (DD2 at Brownie camp) and counting the days til Tuesday when all three DCs are off to PGL for three days. We're having a grown-up day out in London on Tuesday - galleries, shopping and a nice restaurant - eeek, can't wait!

motherinferior · 23/10/2011 10:37

I was minus one child last night, as she had sudden sleepover invite, but this was counterbalanced by fact I had an additional one (who, confusingly, has same name as absent one) to keep DD2 company. Have cunningly arranged to export both of them for part of this week - Mon/Tues chez one friend, Weds/Thurs chez another. Suspect Mr Inferior and I will catch up with work. Rock 'n' roll, eh.

Blackduck · 23/10/2011 10:55

Monday ds is at school club, Tuesday, Thursday and friday he is at holiday club at my work (MUST remember to collect him :) ) Wednesday into work with dp who is organising all his students to amuse ds. All because grandparents selfishly decided to go to Bruges for the week :)

motherinferior · 23/10/2011 10:57

Old people these days, eh. No sense of priorities.

Blackduck · 23/10/2011 11:32

Well MI you think they could have checked dates before booking :)
I said to dp we could do dinner on Thursday and he got all excited until I pointed out ds would be coming too ..... As you say, very rock and roll....

motherinferior · 23/10/2011 11:34

We may manage a curry, locally. (Admittedly at one of the most fabulous Indian restaurants I know. But still not, you know, cutting-edge....)

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/10/2011 13:52

I went to the market this morning so we had oysters for lunch (a dozen each), followed by nice bread and cheese, and washed down with a bottle of Muscadet. DD2 has just come back from sleepover and DD1 is mucking out her bedroom, which may take some time. I am going to have a little nap before thinking about cooking dinner.

Why on earth do old people go away over half term? I failed to sort anything out - it would have cost the best part of 1000 quid to get us to Warsaw, with accommodation on top of that, which didn't seem to be bargainous to me. I have leave from Thurs - Tues inclusive, and have the idea of Doing Some Museums and maybe a Day Out of Paris - possibly a day in Brussels, where we spent 5 happy years.

Blackduck · 23/10/2011 14:25

MrsS I wish I knew suspect they didn't realise!

bigTillyMint · 23/10/2011 15:35

My mum went on a holiday to the Eden project last October half-term. She got really arsey with me when I expressed amazement at why she would choose to go on holiday when there would be loads of (in her eyes badly behaved) children around. Smile

herbaceous · 24/10/2011 16:15

Come along hags. We were nearly at the bottom of page 2!

Well, my fit flop trainers have arrived, and I think I like them. Though they're rather, er, orthopaedic-looking compared to my Converse. But then Converse are very 'flat'. They're super-comfy already, though.

Big day tomorrow. We're going to collect DS's cosmetic shell for his eye. From tomorrow onwards he will be wearing it. Well, if he lets us put it in; if we can work out how to do it without hurting him; etc etc. Rather nervous. Had pinned my hopes on this as being a 'solution', and if he won't co-operate, I shall be distraught.

Blackduck · 24/10/2011 18:12

Oh Herbs good luck for tomorrow, came back and up date us.

I ordered dress, here's hoping I like it, it fits as I hate returning things bought online it is such a faff. Ds coming with me tomorrow into work to be dropped off at the holiday club, three days of Harry potter, here's hoping he enjoys it! Meanwhile no further forward on house sale, told dp it isn't happening before Christmas and to put it out of his mind....

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/10/2011 21:08

Good luck for tomorrow, Herbs.

As this is Style and Beauty (although I have neither), I feel obliged to tell you about my bargainous shoes from Amazon. I got some Camper shoes for work, quite funky, for 35 quid, which promptly went up to 117.95 the next day, some Fly London short boots for 40 quid, which are now at 140.00 Shock and some Fly London shoes for 35 quid, which are now at 79.99. I feel that with Amazon, you need to take them by surprise - if you spot a bargain, stick it in your basket and order immediately. If you look, dither, or put in your basket and leave there, it will have doubled in price next time you look.

So that's me shod for the next five years, innit.

On the down side, I appear to be growing a little cluster of hairs on the left side of my chin. I can feel five. There used to be just the one. Sad Do we need a squinting, bearded woman smiley for the hags, do you think? (She could wear a permanent witch's hat.)

Blackduck · 24/10/2011 21:24

MrsS you are so right about amazon and shoes. I am fond of El Naturalista which are silly money, but if you sneak up on them on amazon and do a smash and grab raid you can get them at less than half price... (does help that I can wear a size 3). Good on you with your purchases!

herbaceous · 24/10/2011 21:30

I'm really not sure about my fit flop trainers. DP has just declRed them 'gumby', and said the look like they come from the back of a Sunday supplement.

But what else to wear on winter feet?

motherinferior · 24/10/2011 21:50

Do we like this?

Herbs, all luck for tomorrow.

CointreauVersial · 24/10/2011 22:17

I love online shopping, but seldom risk buying shoes, as I have such awkward old lady bunions big feet. Herbs, I don't know what fit-flop trainers look like, but beware being sucked into the crepey vortex of comfort over style, or you'll be in elasticated slacks before you know it. Wink

Anyway, all the DCs are packed and ready to be dropped off at PGL Hindhead tomorrow for three days of abseiling in the rain, while DH and I do lots of fun grown-up stuff (i.e. go to work). Of course, we have our nice day out in London to look forward to - I thought we might go and see the Wellcome Collection, which is something I've fancied doing for ages.

Herbs, hope tomorrow goes OK. Do they offer any assistance or counselling to DS to address his unwillingness/fears about his eye, or do they just say "here you go, see you in a few months" and leave it all to you? I would like to hope you get some support; it must be so stressful.

MI - your dress - hmmm, I'd "have to see it on", as they say. You don't get much idea from the photos.

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/10/2011 22:29

Blackduck - Amazon have sent me a code for 20% off shoes and accessories - would you like it?

CV - I know that Fly and Camper will fit me, so no problem with ordering them. I wore a new pair today and walked to a bar for a couple of cocktails the long way home tonight and no need of compeed!

MI - the dress - no. Would look like a sack on. Grin
