because they do, in fact, make you look pregnant. When you are not.
And lead to an all round awkward conversation.

( fuckers)

and there i was thinking i was looking quite thin and stylish and floaty ( collegues said i looked nice, family said i looked nice - they all lied)

Kiwinyc, could you provide a link for those of us who are fans of maxi dresses please?

HappyAsIAm · 01/06/2011 13:41

eandz, I think the dress you've posted a link to is lovely. Imo the cut wold suit someone with small boobs.

tbh i think maxi dress's make you look fat

so if you are larger than size 10, they dont suit you

'runs and hides'

and no im not a size 10 and no i dont wear them as they look awful on me (im a 12)

I love my maxi dresses and have had lots of compliments in them >pout

IslaValargeone · 01/06/2011 13:58

I have loads of maxi dresses, but they are the jersey kind so quite fitted rather than floaty.
I love that warehouse one eandz.

If you are already fat and wear a maxi dress, then I don't really see what the problem is with looking fat in it.

MrsCampbellBlack has it -you need slim toned arms, shoulders and smallish bust-this is the bit on show. Also good posture -lots of round shoulders seen in these parts Grin
They will cover pear shaped large bum and legs but if your arms are wobbly dont go there !
Personally I find them a bit of a faff-not as easy to wear as made out due to the swishing about and hem tripping

Verso · 01/06/2011 14:13

Difficult to drive in, too (though my DH likes this aspect as I usually end up hoicking it up draping it elegantly over my knees and having a lot of bare flesh on show Grin Blush.)

i have four of them but cant bring myself to wear them ,going to sell them on ebay.x

iWILLdothis · 01/06/2011 14:19

Love my drapey jersey one. Nothing will stop me wearing it. It's been a life-saver this season....... But then again, I am pregnant Grin

OP, I wouldn't dismiss what your family and friends tell you about looking good in the dress and choose rather to listen to a rude, doting old lady who is a stranger to you. Your family & friends can't all be wrong.

redderthanred · 01/06/2011 14:23

OMG - its just happened AGAIN - twice in the same day, this time the meter reader man at work.

Collegues were nearly wetting themselves.

I am close to shooting myself.

twice!!!!!

Everyone insists i do not look pregnant and atually look lovely and it suits me.
But fuck me, twice in one day. thats enough to knock your self estem a little bit huh.

Its like any other style thats doing the rounds - if you are of average size/shape - ie not wider than you are tall, then its down to the CUT rather than the actual length -

you need to find one that suits your particular shape & as you say you are "booby" then that won't be a floaty empire style - you need something more fitted into your waist to balance your shape better -

adamschic · 01/06/2011 14:27

HappyasIam, I liked the ones you linked to.

You don't need to be tall to look good in a maxi dress, so stop saying it ya'all Grin

Soups · 01/06/2011 14:30

Is this Joe Brown one hideous?
www.very.co.uk/joe-browns-simply-stunning-dress/823681906.prd?browseToken=%2fb%2f1589%2c4294954758%2fs%2fbestsellers%2c0%2fo%2f7&trail=4294954758-1589
I want something for my holiday that I can throw on in the evenings but most maxi dresses are too long on me. I'm a 10 / 12 on top 12 on bottom, and have good arms and shoulders. Black isn't really my colour.

WherecanIhide · 01/06/2011 14:34

redderthanred - don't throw them away! Can't you make them into long length curtains or duvet covers instead? Grin

HappyAsIAm · 01/06/2011 14:37

Thanks adamschic - I would really recommend the black and cream one. Its my favourite purchase for the summer. I need to wear heels with it (I'm 5 foot 1 inch), but I don't mind that as I like to wear it out in the evenings. I hope I'll be able tow ear it next years and that it won't be too "2011"! I have the navy and white one too, which I wear in the day and thae length on that is fine with flat sandals.

libbylobs · 01/06/2011 14:38

just seen a little girl this morning in one, looked far to old for her.x

Naoko · 01/06/2011 14:49

I am loving the maxi dress trend - I'm 6ft tall/size 12 and it's so nice to have something that actually bloody fits me be in fashion....

Lauzifer · 01/06/2011 14:54

I bought this one from Boohoo the other day:
www.boohoo.com/maxi-dresses/lucille-jersey-maxi-dress/invt/azz82729
It's very flattering as it's jersey and the straps are wide. I'm only 5ft, size 12 and i have mahoooosive boobies but i can just get away with this one and a pair of gladiators.

If only it wasn't so see-through Confused

LucretiaInShadows · 01/06/2011 14:58

I'm 5'6" and a 10/12. I've got a couple of floaty-type maxis that I think look OK, but tried on several that made me look pregnant. I've also got a jersey one that I love but can't wear, because it makes me look like an overstuffed sausage. I envy people who can wear slinky-drapey things.
