Spurred on by this thread, I took myself in hand, went and put myself in the hands of those MAC ladies at Selfridges today.
They lightly coated me in foundation, eyeshadow and mascara. I felt like (DD's phrase) a fancy lady.
I met my parents and my sister for tea afterwards.
None of them noticed anything.
After 20 mins I said, 'Anything funny about me?'
They squinted and said 'Oh yes, was thinking you looked rather well.'

IME, quickly surveying the broken marriages I know of, it's the women who wear make-up and spend most of their life in the gym or looking for the next high fashion item whose DH's leave them.

Their DH's just look for the next model who doesn't have to try so hard (and will dump her in 5-10 years too when she needs to up the make-up and gym routine, start looking at botox, etc).

Having said that, I def look better with make-up than without, although I am aware there was a time in my life when I didn't need it at all and a time later when a quick slick of vaseline on my lips and eyelashes was enough

Following my MAC moment, I woke up this morning covered with red blotches (and no it isn't chickenpox).
Bah! If I'd bought the makeup, I'd be plastering it on now to disguise the effects of the, uh, makeup.
I am really

motherinfurrierfestivehat · 08/12/2005 11:18

Oh no. NO!

walkinginawinterBundleland · 08/12/2005 11:22

oh nohohoho. is it just the Mac stuff or have you had this before?

jinglybits · 08/12/2005 11:22

can't read all this thread! but don't feel need to always wear makeup, makes me feel more preened for a night out...and helps balanced a dressed up look but to be honest think people who have to plaster it on everyday are probably insecure in their own skin, putting on a mask to face the world. if my skins bad i'll put a bit on and if i feel a bit ergggh when i look in the mirror i'll put a bit of liner/mascara. i used to love lipgloss but now with ds i feel i will just get it all over him so rarely do. although love blistex care and shine lip balm. i've seen some beautiful women look fake with make up excess. i think its fun to play and accessorize with like a neclace but i don't feel naked without it. sometimes i thank god i'm a woman not a man who can use a bit to cover a spot or even blotchy skin cover eyebags etc but i like to use it in a very light natural way so people think i'm not wearing any anyway. why should women feel they HAVE to wear it whilst men don't, that is not very liberating is it!

walkinginawinterBundleland · 08/12/2005 11:24

I actually feel a bit grubby when I do bother to wear make up. normally wear some tinted lipgloss and possibly some mascara (lengthening, not clumpy spidery ones)

SpringCrimboTurkey · 08/12/2005 11:26

I don't wear any make up during the week, unless I am going to a meeting, then i try to make a bit more of an effort. I always make an extra special effort with it when I go out and actually love the stuff, just never do it during the week for some reason.
And yes i do look awful and pastey without it, I must scare the other mums and dads at nursery in the mornings

bakedpotatohoho · 08/12/2005 11:29

Yesterday was the first time I've ever worn foundation
I felt rather like Joan Collins
Now I look like Mr Blobby

walkinginawinterBundleland · 08/12/2005 11:31
