Good luck to Apuski and Vin tomorrow.

Have got in-laws arriving tomorrow and then I'm heading up to my sisters on sat for the day/night to get hair done - hurrah! Will be lovely quality family time for DH and his parents and the children Smile

Can you believe I picked Henry up today only to discover they actually went back yesterday!! So he has inadvertently had an extra day-off - oops!

Quickly, as DH is cooking my dinner Grin
Vin i would go for opaques/semi opaques - around the 50/ 60 denier mark as opposed to the (now) more usyual 100 denier plus taht are more like leggings.
What about a knitted dress under your smart E&J jacket instead? DH works in a super formal work env (legal too) and according to him all the girls wear seperates these days and he wouldn't bat an eyelid at an interviewee not in a suit.

ABO sorry but imvho that top is really not nice. Sorry.

OWW what Tracey said about the shoes. Some things in Next are ok, but imo Next shoes are think are spectacularly particularly bad

Sorry that sounds like a horribly negative post doesn't it?
Quite dictatorial too Grin so feel free to tell me to off!!

vin don't worry, your outfit sounds great. I do quite a bit of assessing and interviewing and you'd be shocked at what some people think is appropriate clothing. Last time I did an assessment centre one woman turned up in crumpled black trousers, scuffed boots and a grubby nude coloured sleeveless lace top that was at least one size too small and v low cut. She failed the interview part not because of her outfit but because she hadn't bothered to find out anything about the type of role she'd be doing if she was successful so half her answers were completely irrelevant.

OWW I'd echo esher's views on next shoes, I've only bought shoes from there a couple of times and they've always been uncomfortable and fallen apart. M&S shoes are better value and more comfortable.

carciofi thanks for the discount code at the end of the last thread, I may put it to good use this eve. Right, back to work.

Fleecy · 06/01/2011 20:29

Welcome back mac and roma

oww was the Bollywood dance one where you do arms like unscrewing lightbulbs really fast? I've done that one - fun! Also, I'm feeling rather better, thanks for asking. Was getting so fed up with endless coughing and suddenly it stopped. Yay!

tracey I did the same with playschool. To make it worse, it should have been DS's first ever day yesterday but he missed it and started today instead. Oh well, he doesn't know!

pickled you do live in a lovely part of the country. I didn't recognise it in HP but now that you've said, I know exactly which bit it was.

verity hope your Aunty Mar's doing well

tulpe we went to the Maldives on our honeymoon. Was wonderfully relaxing and lovely to have so much time just enjoying food each other's company. Hope you have an amazing break.

mac flares and skinnies here. In fact, am wearing skinny flares today. Not premium though - £7 in New Look sale a couple of years ago when Kate Moss wore those Love Story jeans and everywhere started stocking copies but nobody seemed to buy them. I wore mine with stack heeled tan riding boots, a white shirt and a leopard print silk scarf tied at the neck.

hellsbelles · 06/01/2011 20:37

Bonsoir ? you must (theoretically) go. It would be rude not to Wink

Roma ? welcome back!

Vin ? wow ? how exciting about the interview. I have no idea about interview wear though ? so better not comment!

Welcome Meggles

Vin ? lol ? I was so confused by your post ? I thought it was some sort of huge ironic statement Grin

Tracey ? how amazing about the house. Hurrah! Lol at Henry?s day off?did I mention I did the same ? sort of?! DH took DS to school on Tues ? only to discover they didn?t go back till weds Blush

RG ? poor you stuck with the flu?

Bunny ? ignore the stupid GP. She talks no sense.

Esher ? hope the hospital visit was o.k.

OWW ? gorgeous and I too am surprised you are a blonde. Don?t know why but I had you in my mind as a brunette - so sorry about your first trip of 2011 to A&E! I hope this is the last one of the year.

ABO ? that?s interesting about credit cards. I always use a debit as I?m terrified of credit card debt (I was very silly in my twenties so cut them all up). But that is worth thinking about.

Kildare great coat

Verity ? what a wonderful shopping trip

Tulpe how fabulous! What sort of lunch do you have there?for our honeymoon (which was Sechyelles ? it was very much ?desert island? type thing)? I usually ended up putting on a vest top and denim cut offs to go and grab lunch. This was a long time ago though so things may well have changed.

Everything ? any news? Fingers crossed for you.

Fritzi/tulpe ? I was of the same mind about books/kindle till I saw the real thing (DB got it for his birthday)?.it?s amazing?no backlit screen so it really looks like a page. It?s impossible to dscribe but I was so impressed and am very tempted.

I?m happy with whatever for the meet up ? keen to be able to chat but also keen to be able to eat Grin and sit down from time to time (too much wine?!)

I?m slightly worried as my periods have been playing up (they start a little bit, then stop for 2 days then start) ? I?ve convinced myself that I?m going through the early menopause?so have booked GP appointment. Hopefully it?s nothing but I am such a worrier.

On the A&W front?the miracle jeans don?t do miracles to my ?fat?butt. Not sure if I got the sizing wrong?are they super generous or something at goldsign? But they seem baggy and don?t pull in the flab!

LetThemEatCake · 06/01/2011 20:37

Apuski and vin very best of luck!

Fleecy glad you feel better. I've got doc appt next week. Had to book a double slot as so much to discuss!!! Feel like a proper moany old cow Grin

Those of you who are my friends on FB may already know that I came home today to THREE missed deliveries. So annoyed!! have not had anything new in over a week Grin To add to my pain, the one delivery that did come while the cleaner was here to sign for it (aside from the flippin' veg box) was an order my sister placed before she left (the Warehouse swallow blouse in cream) and which I now have to take to the post office to send on, ugh!!!

I know it ain't VWA but I like this

Fleecy · 06/01/2011 20:39

Oh no! vin I can't believe I forgot to wish you and apuski the best of luck for tomorrow. So, erm, good luck Grin

hellsbelles · 06/01/2011 20:41

Cake - I think it may be better than VWA (for you)...fab.

Fleecy - glad you are back!

notyummy · 06/01/2011 20:44

Ooh LTEC that is lush.

Good luck Vin and Apuski!

Glad you are feeling better Fleecy. Like the sound of how you wear your skinny flares!

OllieWollieWoo · 06/01/2011 20:52

Thanks for the advice re shoes - much appreciated. I like the KG ones thanks Fritzi but think I would like patent so will look on M&S etc. Love the CF clip btw - my Mum and I were discussing how nice he was - which was a bit weird coming from her!
Tracey - thanks for the lovely offer re Harpers - my twin sis is coming over with her kids and car in Feb so I'll ask her to pick up a copy and bring it with her - along with Bloss's washbag, a tescos shop and anything else I can get delivered to her!
Fleecy - yes thats the one re Bollywood dance - I could do the arms or the hip twist but not the 2 together! Wasn't helped by the young nymph standing next to me who of course could do it with ease!
Hello Mac - I'll probably take to wearing flares this time next year - am always behind trends me!
Good luck tomorrow Vin and Apuski - love the idea of you wearing HF's suggestion tho - they certainly would remember you!

blossoming · 06/01/2011 20:52

I agree fleecy, you sound lovely today! this is how I want to be wearing them, if I buy them. I have a lovely pair of Paige in my 'to ebay' pile, but they're just too big and they look wrong as they're low rise. Hopefully this season's ones will be mid rise.

Welcome meggles, I like your style (surprise, surprise!).

vin and apuski good luck.

hellsbelles · 06/01/2011 20:54

oh apuski - I meant to add my good luck wishes to my overlong post! sorry.

blossoming · 06/01/2011 20:55

The link I just posted with one of these cute jackets. I'm getting carried away..!

pickledsiblings · 06/01/2011 20:57

Fleecy, it was so exciting when we thought they'd be filming HP in the village. Of couse not one member of the cast turned up. Still, I think the Parish Council got a few quid out of it.

LetThemEatCake · 06/01/2011 21:00

err, hells

  1. Miracle jeans that feel like neoprene on are baggy on you
  2. Periods are off-kilter

I know I'm not the smartest cookie on the block (just got beaten at scrabble for first time in my entire LIFE so am losing confidence in mental ability Grin ) but could this be because you are so lovely and slim????

Oh yes and bunny - I hiss at the GP for you, with every fibre of my being. silly bint.

carciofi · 06/01/2011 21:09

Vin and Apuski, good luck tomorrow.

LTEC, lovely dress.

Meggles, I like your look.

I like both skinnies and wider leg.

I received the Paige maternity jeans and they are not as good a fit as the Gap jeans so that's more money for real jeans in the summer. :)

Fleecy, your outfit sounds great.

Glad you had a good holiday, Roma.

Cute jacket, Bloss.

Fritzi, it's not LV but I thought this grey leopard print scarf looked good. I think I will get this pink scarf.

loobylu3 · 06/01/2011 21:11

reine- not hardcore at all, honestly. I am only part time and not a Partner either! I think the hard thing for me is coping with my husband's job (he is still training in a demanding hospital specialty) and the other things plus not having any family support to help with illness/ times of stress, or even to have a tiny break!Grin

bloss- really hard to comment on your son's behaviour without knowing more. I do think the fact that he is fine at school and only naughty for you speaks volumes though! It means he can control his behaviour and knows that the most appropriate place to be badly behaved is at home! My DD1 can be v difficult at times. She is a clever, full of energy and v strong willed. She tells me that she can't be good all the time and needs to let her badness out sometimes! My instinct with her is to get cross and shout but it doesn't work at all- she just crosser and shouts louder! I have to appeal to her intelligence and natural wish to please. Of course, often I am tired and stressed and not very good at remaining calm :)

vin- I didn't realise you actually had an interview for med school- I thought you were just contemplating! I agree with tracey and esher- slightly thinner opaques would be fine and dress plus jacket fine also. Seriously, they are really not going to care what you wear as long as you look smart and presentable. I don't think you need to worry about having the right designer suit as much as if you were having an interview at a law firm as Drs/ scientists are not v interested as a rule.
Mainly, they will be interested in why you want to do Medicine and whether you are prepared to work hard and are likely to stick at the course! I guess you have done your homework on a bit about the NHS/ healthcare, etc and I'm sure you will do really well! Remember, you are competing against 18 year olds who haven't anywhere near as much experience as you have.
By the way, which medical school is it for (nosey)?

apuski- good luck with your interview too!

tracey- Colin Firth is yummy :)

hello to meggles!

Many thx for coat link vin- very nice but a very generous person may already be sending me a Jigsaw coat :)

I found this v reduced Nicole Farhi coat which I am v tempted by and it is rather bargainous! Do you like it?

VerityBrulee · 06/01/2011 21:11

Vin and Apuski fingers crossed for you both tomorrow

Everything any news re landlady?

Esher hope the hosp appointment went well with dd

Tracey I did that a few years ago. Took the dc out for a day trip to mark the end of the holidays, on the way home we saw lots of children in school uniform and we were remarking on how lucky we were to have an extra days holiday Blush

LTEC that dress is gorgeous. My fashion resolution this year is to wear more colour, and the Vogue I got today is full of Really Bright colours which I don't think I could pull off, being v v pale. I am wearing raspberry cashmere cardi today, and have quite a bit of red, blue red suits me, and I love that slightly yellow shade of green that they called Poison Green in the 30s, great name. Sorry I'm rambling, are you giong to go for the Reiss dress?

loobylu3 · 06/01/2011 21:18

Forgot to say bunny- had you asked your GP for advice on loosing weight/ ttc next time or was it entirely unsolicited? If unsolicited, sounds rather err unhelpful to say the least!

everything- hope you are doing okay.

LTEC- really like that dress- huge pink fan!

carciofi · 06/01/2011 21:27

Lovely coat, Looby

FritziGreenEyes · 06/01/2011 21:28

apuski and vin Good luck for tomorrow. I'm sure you'll both shine!

LTEC Need to make doctor's appointment too. Was told by people at work how ill and tired I luck. Always a great confidence booster but on the other hand it is nice to know that people care rather than being superficially polite.

bonsoir Yes to Marni sale and please delight us with your purchases!

Welcome meggles. I will definitely wear wide-legged jeans as soon as the weather is suitable for heels again. We had black ice today and it took me 20 minutes to scrape my car's windscreen.

carciofi I will ring LV again tomorrow and stop by the shop on Saturday. If everything fails I'll come back to your links. Thanks!

LetThemEatCake · 06/01/2011 21:35

looby that NF coat is lovely but I have a 'thing' about multiple details (ie more than 2) so for me, the puff shoulder plus high collar plus tie waist would be too much. That's just me though!

Hello verity can't tell you how thrilled I am that you will be at meet up. Smile

Fritzi sorry you are still feeling so run down, get to a doctor pronto!!

re alopecia, my bf also has it (can't remember whether I mentioned??) and has been having treatment for last year or so. Apparently lack of Vit D in this country plays big factor esp for Asian woman (she is asian too) so all the more reason to get my butt home I think!!!

thanks for all the positive comments on the reiss dress ... hmm, can I justify?? (am sure i can ...)
