I absolutley hate anything with wool in-I just can't bear it next to my skin! Has to be cotton or nylon or ANYTHING other than wool!

Bozza · 29/09/2005 15:30

Thats a top not a t-shirt miauo.

Miaou · 29/09/2005 15:35

Oooh great, just the fleece then that's a nono

teeavee · 29/09/2005 15:39

I'm th eopposite - can't stand anything made out of synthetic fibres. so sweaty
love wool, cotton, linen, etc

flamebat · 29/09/2005 15:41

Round here the art students are normally in wide legged trousers (jeans or cords - bright colours are good), strappy vest type top or t-shirt with something on it, layers - so a cardigan, with hooded top n something else as well possibly rather than fitted coats etc or big jumpers, trainers or boots - no heels. The bag is normally fairly big with a long strap - fairly loose style (not a little tight leather with lots of handy pockets etc). Hair varies - for me its normally just brushed an left cos I can't be arsed... think that's the mummy side of things, many people can spend hours perfecting the same look

Gets lots of art students round here so I know the look

My trousers have slimmed down a bit over recent years, but that's about all!

who cares whether we look nice, i mean i do make a bit of an effort with make up, nice clothes etc but i put more of an effort into making ds1 fresh food, playing with him, going to mum and baby groups. people put too much pressure on mum's looking sexy as SOON as they give birth. we should be allowed to just enjoy our babies whilst they are still babies!

i lurve kew

yes but looking nice is fun for some people - i think it depends on whether you cared about clothes/make-up before you had kids. if you did, you may want to keep that part of yourself alive...

i would not adopt the mum's uniform because i never wore stuff like that before...

teeavee · 29/09/2005 16:35

recent childborth is no excuse for the dreaded f-word though!

flamebat · 29/09/2005 16:37

i care too - my look might not be the choice of lots of you, but I do still make an effort with it (hair is an exception, but it is clean etc even if I don't attack it with straightners). I wear what suits me, what flatters my figure (I need lowish tops, or v necks to avoid me having a matronly busom - knitted tops aren't flattering ), and on good days I wear flattering makeup (bad days face is clean and that's about it!!!!).

I feel good if I look good, which effects the rest of my day etc.

twirlaround · 29/09/2005 16:38

Most mums at my school gates have been to work so they look smart.

I climbed out of the mummy uniform a few years ago & am so pleased that I did - has given me a lot more confidence!

teeavee · 29/09/2005 16:38

self-respect is the most important thing

laligo · 29/09/2005 16:40

also i like it when dp or friends say i look nice and vice versa... don't want to "drop out" of that side of life. expressing yourself through clothes doesn't have to be expensive or time-consuming - i still make / customise some of my clothes (after ds goes to bed, while watching lost)

WiseEnid · 29/09/2005 16:41

I look fantastic in a fleece and jeans

but am naturally stylish

trinny and susannah would not be able to 'do' me

lou100 · 29/09/2005 16:44

im not saying i dont care but maybe not to the extent where i ponder over combining 'separates' i make sure i look nice for dp but who gives a s**t what anyone else thinks? all these celeb mags showing victoria beckham in her glamorous clothes and size 6 jeans make women paranoid at a stage when they're already feeling vulnerable.

flamebat · 29/09/2005 16:46

I've never really pondered over combining seperates... is it really that hard to know what things in your wardrobe go together?

WiseEnid · 29/09/2005 16:50

of course it isnt

lou100 · 29/09/2005 16:52

no it isnt hard thats why i dont have to experiment and spend time doing it like t + s suggest. i know what i look nice in so i just get on with it

weesaidie · 29/09/2005 17:28

No I don't. But if I liked it and felt comfortable in it I would.

LIZS · 29/09/2005 17:32

ok, Guilty m'lud Cod although I think I tend more towards their "after" image . But in mitigation I have to kick my heels with dd outside for half an hour at the beginning and end of each school day, all weathers, so exactly what do I wear instead ?
