following on from bunny's festive lead ....

OP posts:
mrsjuan · 09/12/2010 22:12

bit too cutesy I think.

Please can I be nosey and ask what size you got the blouse in? I tried on an 8 and it seemed very voluminous and I am not as shrunken as you Wink

LetThemEatCake · 09/12/2010 22:12

ooh NY meant to say hurrah for Gap coated skinnies. You will look ace. What tops are you thinking?

OP posts:
LetThemEatCake · 09/12/2010 22:13

I got an 8 mrsJ. Fits fine on shoulders, voluminous on body but as I am tall is fine. I did wonder at the time how a shorter 8 would fare though

OP posts:
mrsjuan · 09/12/2010 22:15

Ah - that's the issue then. My body is letting me down on all sides at the moment! Could try a 6 but that seems ridiculous.

hellsbelles · 09/12/2010 22:15

It's just not as good as the blouse in any way is it.

Right - I'm going to read in bed. For some reason I'm finding todays protein only day really hard and need to get away from temptation.

Night all.

mrsjuan · 09/12/2010 22:17

hells - no, blouse is classier all round - is it the sleeves that make it do you think?

notyummy · 09/12/2010 22:19

Need to have another session to see what to wear with the coated skinnies. Tried a blue silk blouse that looked good I think, plus a stripey asymmetric top. Also black/white wide striped breton looked ok. Think I may wear them to Xmas meal out at work, which is a daytime to early evening event and is always very dressed down. May also be good to take to Geneva...although will have to consult with friend about what footwear I can get away with out there. DH has been issuing less-than-veiled threats about how much I am NOT allowed to pack in our one bag Grin

Fleecy · 09/12/2010 22:25

Evening all,

Am going to go against the grain and say I love my VWA and am a pear Grin but not typical pear as have boobs and small bum. Just the wide hips/thighs. So maybe that's why? Makes me look much more hourglass-ish.

hells are you being really good about sticking to protein Thursdays?

bunjies if you're lurking, have you started your new job yet and, if so, how's it going?

Had a fab time at my client's Christmas do the other day. Lots of fun. It was one of those where loads of different offices hire tables in a room at a hotel and all share a party. Only three tables dressed up, out of twenty five or so. We were the best Grin

Fleecy · 09/12/2010 22:36

notyummy I've found contrasting fabrics work well - so cashmere, chunky knits, silk, boucle etc on top, grey suede ankle boots on the bottom.

Zembo · 10/12/2010 06:04

Thanks tethers, first pair a bit too cowboy, second pair a bit clompier than I want (although might try and look at in real life). Boots are a nightmare aren't they? I want quite a high heel too (about 10cm)

Saw these Nicole Farhi ones but not sure about them - think I want them to look a bit less classic.

Cakey I've had a few compliments on my Belstaffs, but not as many as I should be getting Grin. Esher hope you're liking yours more now.

Re: VWA dress, agree no good for pears, I am one and find the dress hard to wear -also smallish busted. Won't be getting another. Also spanx doesn't seem to do that much for me, probably need an industrial strength one.

Zembo · 10/12/2010 06:13

Tethers this is approx what I want minus the legwarmers!

ReineDeSaba · 10/12/2010 07:28

Morning..you are always up so early Zembo
I do think the plastick boots are overpriced. The NF ones are quite nice, the Gucci ones would be fab(minus legwarmers!)

ltec I don't complement a woman at my nursery's Belstaff boots because I am convinced she is a lurker(temperly striped dress, cape etc)so I didn't want to out myself! Smile

tracey aah the naked years DD1 was keen on this up to 3 then switched to changing outfits 100 times a day.sigh..

blossom I really meant to get on here yesterday to post my support but didn't m ake it i'm afraid.you are truly dignified and amazing.my best to you and your beautiful family.

yangy so weird about sizing..I found the gap coated big on your bum so surmised from this I have a tiny bum Wink but the topshop pleather v clingy(perhaps I actually need to size up)I have yet to wear mine, planning for a 40th next week, but must try the whole sitting down thing.. MM has warned not easy!I would also wear with slouchy tops, the DM arcticle truly terrifying.

Marsha loved your post re-party,good to have a bit of sparkle amidst the day to day routines.

everything so happy your ds is sleeping through.I would love to sleep..misty look in eye..

vin well done(could say Much more)but making big effort not to lose it(virtually)with The P

At 22 I wore dungarees..enough said(dh still hasn't stopped laughing since I told him that)..Reine leaves thread, shutting door behind her

ReineDeSaba · 10/12/2010 07:41

Have just emailed you re-meet up ltec Smile

notyummy · 10/12/2010 08:07

Am loving the dungaree confession! Grin

What other fashion crimes have we committed ladies?

I will have to reflect on mine...but i think there are plenty.

Fleecy - Thanks for the thoughts on what works with those jeans. I think you are right, as I tried some brushed grey ankle boots with them that I think worked quite well.

Bonsoir · 10/12/2010 08:11

Style & Beauty newsflash from Paris: Monoprix now has its childrenswear online; some of this is immensely bargainous! DD has this dress in pink, which both she and I adore.

And in my bag of Lancôme freebies there was a pot of Génifique night cream - it is fabulous stuff and really helps with dry skin in this cold weather.

Romanarama · 10/12/2010 08:32

Hello everyone, I'm back from my civil service leadership training. The glamour! My feedback involved things like 'tall', 'elegant', 'scary' Hmm . I think rats plus Jil Sander boots at civil service training may have been a first Grin

Anyway, it was pretty good, lots of reminders that life is once and short and that we are responsible for taking charge of our own destinies, so sitting in loathsome jobs/marriages ( vin ) or whatever is deeply foolish and we can change it.

Your day sounded very poignant and lovely yesterday bloss I hope you are feeling peaceful. I was surprised during this course - which had a lot of rather intimate bonding moments - what personal traumas so many people have had.

I hope you are feeling better cake, don't shun abs if you have a chest infection - people used to drop dead from those before abs were invented.

The shred arrived in my package of lego/spynet/kiddie treasure, so I will now join the official club of people who own the Shred but can't be arsed Grin

I have no va va voom - think breadstick - but think the VWA gives me a bit. I'm sure it would look better if I had curves of my own, but I find it simulates them a bit.

Hello to everyone else, well done with the babies bunny, so sorry about your utterly crap December Geordie, but maybe it's better that your dh is taking it in his stride rather than making a big drama? Mine does things like saying 'I can't believe that we've had to pay ?18,000 in Italian tax this year' just as I'm switching out the light to try to get a good night's sleep. I would rather prefer he said 'everything's great, sweet dreams' or something.

Can't wait to go on holiday. For flights with toddlers my best experiences have been on airlines like Air China where everyone wants to play with your baby, no one resents invasion of their personal space, and the hostesses take your 18month old ds away for 2 hours and giggle while he rips all the labels off the food trolleys etc. 747s also good: I spent nigh on 8 hours once sitting at the foot of the stairs while ds1 went up and down them. And it was a night flight - extraordinary. Quite low effort for me though. I used to much prefer going without dh as he found the whole thing stressful and made me all tense. Now it's OK - the boys are old enough to amuse themselves with an ipad and a book, or a pad of paper and pencils.

hellsbelles · 10/12/2010 08:34

how pretty Bonsoir.

DD has woken up with a very very runny tummy. Oh dear. She seems her normal happy self but is refusing food. Thankfully I arranged for my nanny to look after her while I go to DS's school play. It wouldn't have been much phone dealing with the squits while trying to pay attention to Christmas Bauble no. 1 Grin

Romanarama · 10/12/2010 08:35

I'm off now to deal with my 500 unread emails, but will see you all later! Bit warmer here at the moment, thank heaven, but I'm still in double cashmere plus poncho and scarf.

blossoming · 10/12/2010 09:08

Oh no I'm stuck in an almighty traffic jam. My plans may be ruined.

LetThemEatCake · 10/12/2010 09:19

good luck bloss!

hi roma, glad the week was useful (and is over). Janice in post as of Wednesday, hope she's with you soon

have had response to my re-sent (resent?? Grin) unsexy work so fair enough.

Another Xmas do tonight, at an artist's studio ho hum, what does one wear to such a thing? Confused

thanks for concern over chest, still feels bad but I am a sturdy sort. I know the point at which I feel meds are necess and promise will go to doc if I get to that point.

hunt for perfect LRD continues....

reine am so sorry you can't make it Sad. Deffo next time. btw I love your name

zembo are you off this weekend? how wonderful. Hope the time among friends and family is a healing and happy end to the year.

Right nursery Xmas party, 3 v over excited kids, better go. have good days all

OP posts:
notyummy · 10/12/2010 09:21

Roma - were you at Sunningdale? Your feedback sounds pretty good to me - I aspire to scary...

Blossoming - Nightmare!! Hope it moves soon.

Bonsoir - I had heard from another source that Genifique was good. Will be at a Duty Free next Friday so may need to seek it out! I have been using the Clinique Laser Repairwear stuff, which I think works.

Reine - Good to hear from you. I had dungaree shorts that I wore at uni with opaques and doc martens. I was going for a indie/crusty look....but I did wash. And I didn't have a dog on a string. But I did own Levellers cds....

blossoming · 10/12/2010 10:02

I need to scroll back for geordie's survival tips.

At least I wasn't involved.
At least it's warmer, 7C
At least I have dd's food for the day in the Il Tutto.
At least my parents are around at home to fetch ds from school if it comes to that.

Dd is already complaining though.

MarshaBrady · 10/12/2010 10:02

Agree with my fellow slim lot. VWA can look great without big boobs. But I do have shoulders equal to hips, smaller waist, so a slight bit of curve.

Bah enjoying ready your posts burnt the damn eggs! Grin. Back in a bit.

MarshaBrady · 10/12/2010 10:09

Reine I love the dungarees confession. I loved all your posts re what you wore.

I think me and my friends penchant for early sloane at sixteen; pearls, florals!! Etc was Pre-Fashion Grin.

Bonsoir good news flash posts. How is pretty, elegant pre-Christmas Paris, and the parties?

Bonsoir · 10/12/2010 10:15

Marsha - Paris is busy and I am having a recovery day in anticipation - got DP to take DD to school this morning (she had to be there early as all 125 pupils in her year were off to a performance of Cinderella) and have put her in the canteen for lunch so that I have a whole day to rest, do beauty treatment catch-ups and sort wardrobe for weekend and next week!

I bought a really lovely navy silk crêpe de chine slash neck long sleeve top in the Vanessa Bruno cruise collection that just hit Le Bon Marché, and a sparkly hairband. Will wear with navy ribbed Falke tights and knee high boots and either a micro skirt or shorts for casual-but-elegant school mummy Christmas breakfast at Le Royal Monceau on Tuesday. Will take a copy of Inès de la Fressange's La Parisienne book for the Secret Santa we are doing at the breakfast.

Also have a dinner tomorrow night with people I have never met - friend of DP from student days plus new wife. Bought a box of chocolates at La Reine Astrid but what to wear??? No idea Sad
