That's a shame! Spose there are funny views in lots of families. (thinks of relatives)

I like this dress for slobbing around in.

Might cook a roast.

bunnymother · 31/10/2010 13:37

So, am wondering if education is diff from being enlightened? Or perhaps we mean classically educated ie traditional schooling rather than educated about the world around us? Can't help but think that it's a persons approach / attitude that makes all the difference, rather than where they have been and who has told them what? Example - many many oiks have been on O/S trips and still know zip about the world and how people are.

FWIW - am loving The Wiggles and Sesame St for DD as v inclusive programs. In fact, Caucasians are completely outnumbered on S St! Alhough no good female puppet characters which is a bit disappointing.

Oops - bet you all are sorry you brought up racism now I am on my high horse! Will eat then post on beautiful things ie your links.

hellsbelles · 31/10/2010 13:38

I like that too Marsha but fear it would only just cover my bottom! MM - stripey dress is fab.

12th is in my diary.

Plum - recent incident with my FIL had me doing a similar face. Families!

I'm feeling left out of all the Janice loving! Wish I hadn't sent mine back as I'm out of tune with the A&W gang now Grin

OllieWollieWoo · 31/10/2010 13:42

Just bee thinking about Bunny - has she been on here in the last couple of days? Don't mean to sound like one of those annoying relatives that ring you twice a day around your due day and then get a flap when they get your answerphone - but - I wonder if the twins have arrived??? How exciting!

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 31/10/2010 13:42

Is it a liberalness? I'm not sure. Families have value systems don't they... ours was academics and looks (in a French way, I didn't realise but then saw a lot of similarities between Bonsoir's posts and my mother. Saying very bluntly if we had put on weight, or encouraging us to look our best etc).

It's a tricky one, I hadn't realised what my childhood was like until recently.

I love Sesame St too Bunny. Really is very good.

OllieWollieWoo · 31/10/2010 13:43

Sorry bee should be been!

Oh yes - if anyone can point me in the direction of an easy yet good recipe for apple and cinnamon muffins, I would be very grateful!

OP posts:
OllieWollieWoo · 31/10/2010 13:43

LOL - that will teach me not to read ther last few posts before pressing post message! Sorry Bunny!

OP posts:
bunnymother · 31/10/2010 13:47

Oh, and to temper my pious post... Am def judgy/prejudiced about certain things ie how people are presented / what they say. Need to work on that so DDs don't grow up w hideous role model mother.

bunnymother · 31/10/2010 14:07

Janice - isn't she lovely? You can imagine how much I want to buy dresses at the mo'. cake - did I tell you how I made DH look at a shop window w me and admire your CLs (although they were in pink - delicious)? Bet you looked and felt fab in them.

Hf - were you joking re nightshirts? Hope so. Think they not esp lovely.

Plum - good God your MIL's visit sounds challenging. Extra glass of wine for you (ooh and perhaps have a glass of port after dinner for me? Or Amaretto?)

MM - gold and fur to the park? You sound like a fun mum - lucky DD. That combo did make me think of LL Cool J's song "Around the way girl", in a good way.

Marsha - am from v Australian background, so bluntness was a feature (sadly, also racist attitudes from some ie grandma would never darken the door of a Japanese restaurant. Because of WWII. Hmm. Not the best). Said I was on a diet, as a teenager. "You cam diet till the cows come home, but if it's in your genes to be fat, you'll be fat". How encouraging. Wink. Turns out that a sensible diet and moving around counters whatever genes I have Grin.

Bloss - am of the mindset that "beautiful things are good for the soul". Looking at something/someone lovely genuinely makes me feel happy. I certainly don't pity you, I admire your fortitude. Encased in a lovely shell w glossy hair and deep blue eyes.

Cake - think we may have similar temperaments - I get v stressy about things and can't relax if feel the need to do something. Example - hospital bags HAD to be packed last week. DH is a bit Hmm but used to it now. Thankfully he is MUCH more relaxed.

What else, what else?

MrsJ - I loved those pumpkins w drill holes - stylish pumpkins, who would have thought? Poor little DD all wound up, and poor you. Our sweetie is up and down w her night sleeping, but mostly trending toward "sound sleeper" which is good. Esp as am palming off nights w her to DH soon.

bunnymother · 31/10/2010 14:12

OWW - hello! Am still pregnant, but really feeling it now. Please send me a muffin once made - am carb monster at the mo'! Apple and cinnamon sounds perfect. Actually, please send 6 Smile

Tracey - I often think of your dynamism when lacking in motivation. You seriously get things done! When lagging, will continue to think "what would Tracey do", then hopefully will put down the biscuit and actually do something productive Grin.

MarshaBrady · 31/10/2010 14:13

O me too Bunny. We've had this before I think. Smile

Beautiful things ARE good for the soul.

Sometimes I see a lot of people on mn saying how shallow, how silly and I think but it can be like a good book / food. Refine taste and appreciate.

Lots of beautiful people around atm

bunnymother · 31/10/2010 14:35

Ah yes, yes, we have, haven't we Marsha?! We are of one mind re the happiness that beautiful things bring. I have no time for "shallowness" criticism. My appreciation of beautiful things is just one major part of me. I still like to nerd it up from time to time, too Grin. Got a thrill out of marking up our wills the other week, for example. Poor lawyer was when I followed up w a phone call, to discuss my points in excruciating detail. Bet he uses caller ID from now on.

MarshaBrady · 31/10/2010 14:40

O god me too!

Literature / criticism / economics here. Dh is all about the aesthetics. I miss all the other stuff!

Previous bf was playwright / lawyer intellectual type but had almost dodgy haircut. Poor things can't meld Wink Grin

Actually I think dh has caller ID for the number of times I ring up and say.. so where is the lead, you know the computer lead Blush

loobylu3 · 31/10/2010 15:07

plum/ cake that is quite shocking re racism and good for you for dealing with it so well! I would probably have been so cross that I would have got tongue tied. Well, either that or would have spoken my mind and not been v popular! I think covert racism is a lot more prevalent than most people realise.

I agree marsha/ bunny that beautiful things can be good for the soul and was extend that past clothes to music, art work, beautiful houses/ interiors, etc. Some people do seem to think focusing on external beauty is shallow. I think they are just people for whom beautiful things don't really give pleasure. Different things make different people tick, etc
I have friends who put a lot of effort into their appearance and always look glam and others who are just not interested and don't see it as a priority. I can't say I judge either group but sometimes would love to take the less glam ones shopping because they could look great if they made a bit more effort! :)
marsha- your ex and DH combined could be the perfect man but I think being 'all aesthetics' is quite unusual for a bloke, no?

MarshaBrady · 31/10/2010 15:13

Yes possibly looby Smile but sadly pretty much all the people that have his role in his creative industry are men! (just thought of that).

I agree people are into different things. I can understand people loving and getting into horses or a sport for eg - a rush thing

LetThemEatCake · 31/10/2010 15:20

plum! Have you done brogues and shorts yet? Just saw lovely girl, much like you re colouring, very striking, sim hair etc, wearing brown tweedy shorts, thick tights, brogues, thick cream cable sweater, brightly coloured patterned silk scarf/ shawl with brown vintagey looking boxy handbag. What joy to behold when all I was doing was a last minute sainsbo's Halloween run Grin

LetThemEatCake · 31/10/2010 15:21

Oh helles. just get the Janice!! Wink

Fleecy · 31/10/2010 15:46

marsha am I right in thinking your DH is a creative director? I'm a freelance copywriter and work for several local agencies and lend a hand to a few in-house teams when needed. Every single CD is a man!

MarshaBrady · 31/10/2010 15:48

Fleecy they are aren't they! Must be the same in the advertising world too I bet.

LetThemEatCake · 31/10/2010 15:54

Lawks, fleecy meant to say thanks for diet advice to you too (when I thanked bloss this morn) Did not at all mean to overlook/ be rude

Fleecy · 31/10/2010 16:08

ah, 'tis not a problem cake Grin

Hope you're feeling a little less stressed by now.

MarshaBrady · 31/10/2010 17:25

It is 5.19 it feels like 8pm! Grin

Have had red wine and roast lamb.

A bit squiffy, what is everyone up to?

mrsjuan · 31/10/2010 17:35

Tell me about it Marsha - it's so dark and DD is more than ready for bed!

We've also had a roast of sorts - chicken was roasted - but potatoes were jacket and vegetables steamed - lazier easier and healthier.

Wondering if we will get any trick or treaters as we had quite a few last night.

MarshaBrady · 31/10/2010 17:36

Oh no I forgot to buy sweets!

mrsjuan · 31/10/2010 17:39

You'll just have to give them fruit like my mum does!
