OP posts:
vinovino · 19/08/2010 10:02

LTEC I am so sorry to hear about that heartbreaking news. Sad thoughts and prayers are with your friends. what a cruel world.

Am meant to be doing some work again today as have a DS free morning so better turn this off before I start shopping Blush..

vinovino · 19/08/2010 10:04

but before I go ..
does the heel height/colour on these make them a bit grannyish? (for work)?

vinovino · 19/08/2010 10:10

LTEC also please remember that there are many stories of successes after devastating news, people can be told such sad news and go on to actually have a baby and that baby can be okay against all medical odds, so we will all be thinking of your friend and praying for the very best outcome.

reallygrumpy · 19/08/2010 12:03

LTEC I'm so sorry to hear the news about your friends sad loss. DH and I have had some rocky days just trying to come to terms with my miscarriage but that was only at 7 or 8 weeks. It must be heartbreaking to lose a baby so late in pregnancy.

I've just been catching up on this thread after a week in France during which I consumed far too much wine and cheese. I even shredded while away (we got DD a little DVD player for the car) but have still come home 2 pounds heavier. I'm contemplating doing the 28 day detox again to shift the pounds but there's no point starting yet because we've got a weekend of entertaining coming up.

I'm v Envy that you can all see each others pics on facebook, I'm too scared to become facebook friends with any of you because I'm wearing an anorak in my profile pic and I'm worried you'd kick me off the W&A thread for being too unstylish!

vino you are amazing, I'd love to be as upbeat and resilient as you.

bunjies · 19/08/2010 12:44

Oh Cake what a horrendous situation. How on earth do you deal with that Sad?

OWW - job done! What an excellent sounding birthday.

Happy Anniversary for yesterday Tracey.

traceybath · 19/08/2010 13:43

Barbour Kate arrived and is going back - its too long in the waist for me so looks very odd on.

Can imagine would look fab though if taller.

So back to the drawing board for me.

Zembo - am sure you looked fab in your VW dress. I'm feeling too fat to wear mine at the moment though.

VerityBrulee · 19/08/2010 13:49

How annoying about the Kate Tracey, I'm short too and proportions can be all wrong.

Zembo · 19/08/2010 14:02

Tracey shame about the coat, do I remember you ordering another one too? May give the VW dress another go next week, bit disappointed though. I mean I'm slim (like you) so clothes shouldn't make me feel otherwise Hmm.

Just making brownies with DD ready for friends coming over tomorrow.

Zembo · 19/08/2010 14:04

Vin i avoid mid heels as a bit frumpy on me..but I'm a shortie. I think Choo has some similar ones?

DolceeBanana · 19/08/2010 14:18

Hello...

Waiting for docs appointment as baby poorly...terrible conjunctivitis (worse than DS and DD1 ever had!), and chesty cough, so quite poorly...I hate it when they are ill, such a worry...

Shame about the Barbour Kate Tracey...! What are you going to go for instead? I have the Hobbs quilted jacket Esher linked to. It is lovely...very light and warm.

Well its really autumnal here, so no hopes of lasting summer! I'm possibly going to have to pop to get a wrap/short cashmere sort of cardi for the wedding this Sat...so really, really hoping baby is well quickly, and the chesty cough is nothing more than me being over worried (and that the doc says that it def is not on her chest!!!)...

Had lovely day with DD yesterday (her 3rd birthday). She had lots of lovely presents, and was very good all day, even allowing her brother to 'help' with opening presents, and play with most them, even the Disney Princess pink palace her Aunt had sent her!

You seem to be viewing lots of houses Tracey...are they ones you really like or are you just getting a feel? I hardly ever see anything I like, and so viewings are nil at the moment unfotunately...Hopefully September will yield a bit more interest....

LetThemEatCake · 19/08/2010 15:38

thanks for your kind posts ladies.

As many of you know, dh and I lost our first dc at 20 weeks under similar circs (scan detected problem, confirmed by amnio, we were told our baby would either be stillborn or die shortly after birth as condition was 'incompatible with life" and I was induced a few days later) Unfortunately this is exactly what my friend is facing, although at a much later stage of pregnancy. I'm trying hard to fnd the balance between being supportive as someone who has "been there" on the one hand, and diminishing her experience by doing the "I know how you feel" thing on the other.

Selfishly, this has brought back a lot of feelings about my own loss too. I feel terrible admitting it because this isn't about me, but I know I can confess to you.

On a style note, this new writing project with LA is going well but involves lots of meetings/ launches/ events, which is all a bit daunting. It's one thing to have nursery gate mums think you look good but these people actually know about fashion. Feeling very nervous about what I've let myself in for. Feedback on my actual work so far very good though, and I've not had to leave the children at all yet, which is my other big reservation about work in general.

LetThemEatCake · 19/08/2010 15:44

sorry nearly forgot - passport issue resolved, thanks for your support, went back this morning with all the documentation.

Also - dh taking me out for dinner tonight to celebrate various things and am planning on wearing the Tibi hummingbird maxi.

tracey sorry about your jacket. Maybe this is the gods telling you to LEAVE IT until school goes back, at least!! Grin

traceybath · 19/08/2010 16:00

LTEC but its cold here - grumble grumble Wink

I think its only natural you'll think about your loss too - its not diminishing their loss at all though. Just incredibly sad for them and for you too.

Yeay to the passport and did you see outnet had the tibi dress today?

You will wow them at LA - did you notice I'd linked to a cape of theirs a few days ago.

Bea has new coat been delivered and true to form it has not left her back all day.

Just contemplating how much uniform H needs as realised he's still in the coat for school I bought him when he was 3 - yes, 3 years ago!

Zembo - I know what you mean about some clothes just not being great - have realised I generally suit very slim-fitting non-fussy stuff but it can get a bit dull. Am dreadful for seeing links on here and thinking -ooooh I love that and then realising it just wouldn't suit me. I did order the other jacket but cancelled it as realised it just wasn't long enough for what I need. I do not want a wet bottom Grin

Dolcee - am just trying to get a feel for the market at the moment. Hope baby feels better soon.

eshermummy · 19/08/2010 16:02

Cakey - am so so sorry for your friend and for you too Sad. It stirs up a lot of feelings for me too as I was also induced at 20 weeks, although in my case, she had died in utero about a week earlier (found out at routine antenatal appointment when they couldn't find a heartbeat). I found out 2 days before DD1's first birthday and rather than spoil DD1's day decided to postpone the induction for 4 days - I still cannot really bear to look at the photos of DD1's birthday.

Is very hard re balance between your own feelings/your own experience and that of someone else. Your friend may feel as though your situation was similar to hers or she may feel it is totally different. Certainly, at the hosp I was induced at, the procedures for induction post 24 weeks are very different as of course the legal situation is quite different.

I have to say that my own experience is certainly one of the grimmest days/periods of my life so far and I still think about it a lot so am not surprised it has stirred up a lot of emotions for you. It would me too.

hf128219 · 19/08/2010 16:07

Dolcee Hope baby makes a speedy recovery.

LTEC Glad you got the passports sorted.

This happened to a friend of ours wife in 2000. She was induced at about 36 weeks and the baby was stillborn. It was just dreadful. It is so hard to know what to say/do.

It was such a hard time for them that when she became pregnant again they did not tell anyone who did not need to know. This was facilitated by the fact they were living apart by 450 miles for work reasons.

The first we knew of the baby was that he had gone off on paternity leave. They were just so scared to jinx things.

LetThemEatCake · 19/08/2010 16:12

LOL at Baby Bea - she is her mother's daughter!!

thought of you when I was out for afteroon tea with Ms P the other day - you and Bea will have so much fun doing all of those 'girl' things.

Can you link to the LA cape again? must have missed it.

Oooh yes to the Outnet Tibi - is it okay to feel smug that I only paid £94??

am also realising that lots of clothes don't suit me, sadly.

okay, so AW shopping list:

Navy coat with slight military feel
longish fur gilet
camel chunky cardi, a la Chloe runway
slim bootleg jeans
lace tights (to update my Chloe LBD)
lace blouse (to wear with leather pencil skirt - but will buy 2nd hand, will be easy to find)
jumper dress, poss Fair Isle (??) design

um, I think that's about it.

LetThemEatCake · 19/08/2010 16:15

oh hf that's so sad.

I kept my subsequent pregnancies secret too, all until at least until past scanning and CVS stages. Paranoid.

forgot to put smartish trousers on my list, poss peg/ tapered style

Zembo · 19/08/2010 16:37

Tracey I wear lots of 'simple' styles of clothing too. Even my Asian wardrobe (yes, I have two completely different sets of clothing Smile) is relatively simple, lots of plain silk with minimal embroidery. Hardly any prints, and I agree it does get a bit boring. I do love scarves to add a bit of interest though.

bunnymother · 19/08/2010 16:51

Tracey - also think you will just love having a daughter to go shopping w, and do girly things with. I always wanted at least 1 girl.

Cakey - I can imagine how hard this must be to be supportive and understanding of your friends, while still feeling grief for your little Star. So many thoughtful, kind, wise words from the A&W ladies on this. Am so sorry that so many of us have either been through this, or know others who have. Makes me realise just how much some people have to go through to have their families. Congratulations on the passport for DC3, by the way - great to get that sorted. Re LA, think the challenge of working w fashion "experts" will be good for you (you v clever, and think need the challenge). Sounds like you are eating it up!

Dolce - oh no, poor baby Dolce! Oh how sad when they are sick, and you must hate putting the drops/ointment in.

Naturally as am fast approaching ginormous proportions, I see this beautiful Mint Velvet dress that I really like. Oh dear, am sobbing into my larger than life cleavage at the lost opportunity Wink

bunnymother · 19/08/2010 16:54

Oh, just quickly - who had friend w new DD named Adeline? I LOVE that name! Was on my shortlist, but is DH's aunt's name so MIL would spit chips if we named a DD after her sister and not her (and DH won't let me use the ever lovely Estella as too like his mother (MIL)'s name. Sigh)

PlumSykes · 19/08/2010 18:24

LTEC, I am so sorry to hear about your friends, and not at all surprised that it has brought things back so starkly for you-thats the thing with grief, it doesn't stay compartmentalised-and nor should it. Big love to you and your three gems.

Vino, think teh shoes are good work basics, will only look a la frump if you dress them dowdy, which you won't so of course they will look fabulous.

Utter bummer about the Kate, tracey, did you decide against the Barbour Int? Friend has it in red, I am deeply envious of it.

For me, coat-wise, I am very un-wisely in utter love with the belted furry coat from Whistles that has been getting a lot of editorial. I know it would look ratty and horrid as soon as it got wet-and it rains here a lot-and it's also £500, but it has stolen my heart, so I must at least track it down and try it on.

traceybath · 19/08/2010 18:30

Plum - the fur coat is lovely - am sure I read only 30 had been made.

Esher - so sorry about your loss - hadn't realised you'd been through that too.

Raining here and its my birthday tomorrow - nothing planned though as we're going out next weekend to celebrate.

DH in London so once children are in bed am going to have glass of champagne - loads left from last night and do a little online retail therapy.

DolceeBanana · 19/08/2010 20:03

Thanks guys...baby such a sweetheart - has been prescribed oral antibiotics now for blocked nasal cavity etc...hence gravelly sounding cough (not chesty thankfully!)...she is such a star she actually took the medicine straight up from a spoon! I could cry. Love her soooo!

Oh Cake, such a sad and heartbreaking story about your friend, and you are completely justified in remembering your own situation, and dear loss. It's heart rending. Life is very, very special...anyway, not to get emotional and maudlin! Sorry too Esher about your loss....

Cheers Tracey! dh out here too...and have put dcs to bed and am quaffing an aperitif ! Only out of his case of Argentinian...not a red wine buff myself,(prefer white-less staining!), but it's really rather nice! Oh, what are you going to treat yourself to for your birthday ( and how old may I ask?)...Lucknam had a v good write up in some glossy mag (forget which!)...so should be a fab night out next weekend...

Zembo - simplicity is v chic i think...less is def more!

Did anyone read this weeks Grazia and see the 'Senior' PR for Gap who is definitely a Wintour stylee?

DolceeBanana · 19/08/2010 20:07

Tracey - tomorrow - get DH to drive into Bath and get an Eastern Eye takeaway...fab! We used to do it all the time...

However, did cook Nigella's Mughlai Chicken in the week...and absolutely delicious! But, you don't want to be cooking on your birthday!!!

Fel1x · 19/08/2010 20:20

Vinovino - great purchases, especally the dress, love it.

Tracey - how cute re Bea and the shoes, sounds like she definitely takes after you!

LTEC - very sad about your friend. How heartbreaking for them. Understandable that its bringing back memories for you too, must be very tough.

I'm having a browse on the internet at the moment to relax me after a busy stressful day. DH away working in Spain at the moment and had row with him over the phone! early this morning, then DCs have played me up all day (probably sensed my mood) and had to spend day with MIL which although I love her to bits, just wasnt in the mood for today.
Peace at last now though and I intend to enjoy it!
