The previous Carry On thread is full, so thought I'd start the new one.

General comments, thoughts, anything that we fancy but NO willy waving!

Thanks everyone for your help.

Polter I tried stealth vaping today- it worked great! Thanks for the tip!

Furry that makes sense re tastebuds. Already like Clara my moth feels so much nicer!

Clara it's great to be starting out with someone else. Today I have had 1 real cigarette and it tasted fairly rank in comparison to my raspberry and menthol. I can see this working quite quickly.

I'm not madly concerned about the nicotine as I only ever inhaled 3 or 4 cigs a day and not even every drag. For me the ritual and my vision of myself as a smoker is the hardest thing to get past- I've been doing this for 25 years! I hope the new self image as caper and the vaping ritual will get me past that.

In 2 weeks time it is my dads first anniversary. He died from lung cancer only 8 weeks after he was diagnosed. Before he died he made me promise to stop. With this I feel like I can fulfill that promise. Thanks for the help everyone- no doubt I'll torture you with plenty more questions in the next while!

KittyOShea · 26/08/2016 17:08

Apologies for typos- I'm not a caper Grin and I don't have a moth although I'm sure it would be nicer if I did

magimedi · 26/08/2016 17:10

Well done Kitty & Clara.

I'm coming up to 4 years after 40+ years of smoking - never thought it would be so easy.

Do drink plenty (of water Grin ) . You can get quite a dry mouth when you start vaping & extra fluid helps to flush out the fag toxins.

I haven't really been hiding, Polter - but I have been on the beach and swimming a lot. ALso I use a desktop & it is upstairs in the warmest room in the house which puts me off a bit.

KittyOShea · 26/08/2016 17:22

Wow magi 4 years is amazing! Very inspiring indeed.

magimedi · 26/08/2016 17:28

And if you want some more inspiration, Kitty - I took up swimming again 2 years ago. I was struggling to do 10 lengths without stopping & now swim 1K of freestyle 3 times a week. And I have dropped a clothes size. And I walked from the seafront up to Beachy Head (500ft ) the other day without wheezing & even enjoyed it. And I'm over 60!!

Not boasting (well, not much Grin ) - just trying to inspire.

I would never say anything to any smoker but I really wonder why anyone bothers with fags now vaping is so easy to get into. I do feel if I can do it, anyone can. You would not believe what a dedicated smoker I was - 20 golden vag rollies a day & more if I had Wine.......

............ talking of which it is Friday & hot.........

KittyOShea · 26/08/2016 17:33

That is impressive! I'm having my mid life crisis I think (in a good way)- I joined Slimming World last year and lost almost 4 stone, step 2 is getting off the smokes and step 3 is to get fit so it's good to hear the good effects of quitting. Not a bad mid life crisis to have Wink

magimedi · 26/08/2016 22:29

4 stone is SO impressive - well done you!

For me getting fit just flowed on from giving up the smokes.

FurryDogMother · 26/08/2016 22:38

magi you're an inspiration! Switching to vaping is part of my (late) mid-life crisis, I'm 57 and decided it was time to start looking after myself. Am also low carbing (as of last Monday), have ditched the demon drink for a while, and am planning (though dreading it) to start doing some exercise. I think we're in the same county - I'm in that there Brighton (well, Hove actually) when I'm in the UK - passed through Eastbourne the other week for the first time in years - thought it was looking good!

magimedi · 26/08/2016 22:48

Well done Furry - demon drink could be another story but I do feel I have that in hand.

Meet up in Hove (actually) sometime?

7Days · 26/08/2016 23:10

I love my vapes too.

Wouldn't go for a cigarette now at all. they are horrible compared to a nice strawberry milkshake or what not

FurryDogMother · 26/08/2016 23:21

magi I'd love to - let me know when you're over this way (I don't have private transport, but can do taxis so can get to most places in B&H). Am here until around the 13th, then back at the end of Sept - feel free to PM me - am a carer for my Dad, so free most of the time :)

stripeyzebra32 · 30/08/2016 21:55

Coming up 7 weeks now completely smoke free. I still can't actually believe it not been tempted and seems such a distant memory now.

I did go down to 9mg whilst duel fueling but went upto 12mg to try and quit.

It's funny tho never really been a menthol smoker but since quitting I only vape menthol with a extra shot of liquid maybe as its so stong it packs a punch.

Only once in the 7 weeks have I thought time for a fag. I was totally stressed and them remembered I don't smoke any more. My friends can't quite believe it as they used to see me chain smoke. Nothing I liked more than a fag and a chat.

I'm going on holiday this week and was a bit worried I would miss it but I will be taking all my kit and remember the point of the trip as I'm getting my teeth sorted. I'm getting cosmetic work done so not only will have no gaps but will have lovely white teeth. It's actually the reason why I wanted to quit for good.

BeezerBubble · 31/08/2016 10:24

stripeyzebra32 That's another benefit of switching, better teeth! Used to be sent to the hygienist every 6 months for a scrape and polish when I smoked, seen her once in 4 years since I switched to vaping. And my false ones don't get discoloured any more either Grin

I can't stand the smell now. Worse at work when it's raining and I'm trying to squeeze in the smoking shelter to stay dry!

magimedi · 31/08/2016 12:09

That's the only thing I miss - the actual rolling of a fag. Always prided myself on my lovely rollies and great joints (back in the day...) Grin

Our shelter is about 1.5m long and 0.5m wide.... We squeeze in GrinGrinGrin

clarazabel · 31/08/2016 15:46

Over a week and no real rollies - I can't believe I'm finding it so easy - what a goon that I didn't do this properly 2 years ago when I bought my first ever vaping pen. Must admit there have been a few times that I've thought about having some proper stuff but mostly it's been the habit of sitting down and rolling up calling, and the fact that tobacco flavour I have doesn't taste right to me, although it does have a bit of a "real ciggie" taste that I don't really like. I will persevere and read all the reviews to find one that suits and keep enjoying my lemon sherbet in between.

magimedi · 31/08/2016 16:04

I've stuck with tobacco flavour for nearly 4 years & I vape 'The Sherlock' from ecigwizard.com

I sometimes add some rhubarb & custard to it.

Plenty uses a hangsen juice - RY4 which is also quite a nice tobacco flavour.

magimedi · 31/08/2016 16:05

PS Forgot to say Well Done!!
