To be honest Naam, if I were to get married I think it would have to be a very small 'do', dp has hinted that he would get married if we could do it in a register office, then come back and have a bbq and small family party at home. It would be mostly his family anyway, on my side it would only be my brother, sister-in-law plus kids and my kids/grandkids. Actually come to think of it, half of his family is in America now, so maybe just a couple of witnesses? Wink

I think I told you my brother is getting married abroad soon, they are having a huge party when they arrive home but they are getting stressed about it because her mother has taken over and it is becoming something a lot bigger than they had wanted, "its getting out of hand and seems to have a life of its own," to quote my Brother. Its not what they wanted at all.

I think when anyone gets married there's always problems of some description. I really am just going to have to go with it and try to smile and look happy. It isn't all down to DP and dsd though, my Mum certainly isn't helping. And it doesn't help either that we don't actually have the money to pay for it - I'm going to get a bank loan - but if we'd have done it how I wanted to it would have 'only' cost about £1,800 and we'd have had a honeymoon in with the wedding. Now it's going to be about that much for the wedding itself, if we want a honeymoon it's going to be about £3k altogether, so it doesn't look like we'll be getting a honeymoon, unless I borrow more....I dunno, we'll see

Have to say though, don't know if you looked at my link but the hotel does look really nice!

Wonder where the snappy one is?? Think we need some virtual alcohol to bring her out

Squirrel3 · 17/05/2006 12:14

I'm in BM's and dsd's bad books again.

At the weekend dsd ran at some speed up to my cat (who was laying down enjoying the sun in the garden) and 'pretended' to kick him, she looked as if she was going to but stopped just before impact iykwim. The poor cat was terrified (remembering that this poor cat is very eldery, he is riddled with athritis, is deaf, basically I would be suprised if he lasts much longer, and dsd knows it).

I was so angry and shouted at her and told her that it was a very nasty thing to do to such an old cat (BTW its not the first time I have had words with her about being cruel to my cats). She stomped upstairs giving me a filthy look as she went. Dp went up after her and asked he why she did it, and her reply, "I thought it would be funny", Dp then shouted at her too, so she sulked the rest of the evening.

Of course BM heard about it and of course, I am the wicked witch again!!!!!

The hotel does look very nice Naam, loads better than a quickie register office do, then a bbq in the back garden, which mine will be if we every get around to it!

Shock

What on earth does her mum expect? Does she want you to think it's funny too fgs?? I hate cruelty to animals, I actually think it's almost as bad as being cruel to children

At least your DP was with you on this though, that's something Smile

How's your dd? Bet she's looking forward to her first summer with a garden Smile

Squirrel3 · 17/05/2006 12:35

What annoys me is that if she were mine I would have gone a lot further than just shouting a tiny bit, they would have heard me shout in Scotland!!!!! The cat is a lovely old thing that adores all children of all ages. I remember being at my local shop and a woman was having trouble getting her toddler to walk home so she said "Come on, hurry up, then we can see that lovely big cat in * road", the little face on this boy was a picture, he grinned from ear to ear and ran as fast as his little legs could carry him, bless. He knows when it is school home time and he goes into the front garden so that he can say "hello" to all of the kids on their way home.

All of this but the cat is frightened of dsd, she pulls him around and "hisses" at him one minute then wants to cuddle him the next, she insists that she loves him, so I don't understand why she does it.

DD is loving having a garden Naam, dgs is loving it too, we bought him a trampoline, swing and slide, (the trampoline is great fun btw Grin

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 17/05/2006 12:44

Must admit "because I thought it would be funny" does seem a very strange answer to give. Poor cat Sad

One of my brothers has a trampoline but I daren't go on it, think I'd probably go straight through it Blush My diet has yet again gone out of the window, oops! And it's only 3 weeks till we go away so it looks like I'll be buying some new clothes. Oh well, Matalan here we come

Talking about trampolines has made me think it's time our space hoppers had another outing Grin

Squirrel3 · 17/05/2006 12:49

The trampoline is a great way to lose weight and if dp can go on it without breaking it you can too! I'm sure you are not as big as you think you are, we all think we are bigger than we actually are (myself included). Anyway a few curves are sexy.

Space hoppers sound like fun too! Grin

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 17/05/2006 13:07

Space hoppers are a great laugh. My sister and I both said last time that we hadn't laughed so much for ages. Neither of us could walk properly the next day but it was worth it Grin

I'm seriously thinking of getting \link{http://www.greatuniversal.com/AgNet/product.aspx?brand=GU&cat_id=17&zone_id=0&prod_id=209345&fh_secondid=209345&fh_view_size=11&fh_usertype=guc3&fh_location=%2f%2fagency%2fen_GB&fh_search=pool&fh_eds=%df&fh_refview=search\this pool} for the summer. Just need to find out what maintenance is needed on it. It will just, only just, fit on the second level of our garden. I love swimming, I reckon I should have been a fish Grin

Squirrel3 · 17/05/2006 13:12

Shouldn't think it would take much maintenance, but if you lived in this neck of the woods you wouldn't be able to fill it up because of the hosepipe ban!

The kids were swiming in dp's parents pool on sunday, they heat it up so that it is like a bath, you can actually see steam rise up from it, thought that I might have boiled stepkids for sunday lunch at one point! Wink

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 17/05/2006 13:20

lol Grin

I heard you had hosepipe bans in your area, unbelievable isn't it?

I don't think the maintenance on the pool would be too bad either but I do want to check before I go out and buy one because if I do get one I'll leave it up all summer. Might do a thread in chat actually, I'm sure there must be a MNer who has one, they are very popular. If it's just a case of chucking a cleaning tablet in once a week - which I think it will be - that's fine, even I can manage that Grin And of course there'll be grass etc. to fish out but I'll nick DPs spare fish pond net for that Grin

Have you booked any holidays yet?

Squirrel3 · 17/05/2006 13:26

Not yet, we don't know what is happening with me as far as work goes yet, but we do have the kids for a fortnight during the summer so I think we should just organise what two weeks we want anyway. We probably wont decide where we are going until just before we go as we usually go camping so you don't usually have to pre-book.

I'm really looking forward to it, last year was such a disaster, then coming home and losing grandad like that, I hope that this year we have a good summer.

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 17/05/2006 13:33

Yes I remember reading about your holiday and your grandad last year, when I was just a mere lurker....

Really hope you have a good time this year. Do you and DP ever get away on your own? We always have, well I say always have - this is only our 3rd summer together but I'm determined, finances permitting, that we'll always have a holiday on our own as well as with dsd even though she's living with us. She'll be perfectly fine and happy with DPs mum and dad, and they love having her around - especially as they didn't see her for over 3 years until 12 months ago. We will be careful not to take advantage though

Squirrel3 · 17/05/2006 13:33

Hope you don't mind but I am going to try to have an hour or so's sleep, been really nice talking to you, I miss this when I am at work, talk later.

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 17/05/2006 13:34

How are you? Are you feeling more optimistic about the wedding now?

Starryshine · 17/05/2006 17:37

Me and dp are skirting around the wedding issue -but I really want to have him all to myself that day.

I'm thinking that I might not have any kids at the night do as a compromise.

Gives me a headache just starting to think about it!

FruitAndNutcase · 17/05/2006 17:45

Erm okay someones confusing me with names here? lol Wink

Starryshine · 17/05/2006 18:04
